I spent 10 yrs 1996-2006, with 1 combat tour during OIF II '04 as a 19K 19D 240B gunner. I am old school Army and now I have a son that is beginning his military journey as a 2Lt. I have lost myself somewhere, I put on a fake face EVERYDAY so I am not seen as weak. I do have PTSD, TBI, and a bunch of other shit. I NEVER use that as an excuse, I have many demons and sometimes the bad one's gets loose. Its now 2024 and I HAVE NOT ADJUSTED. I was raised that it is not ok to say your not ok and that is hard habit to break when your 48. I just self medicate and stay to myself for the most part.

How I relate to you, brother. Navy Corpsman, Vietnam, operating room, 1967, and same issues, same damned attitude. Trying, after decades, with VA, we'll see - lots to explain, but, you already know, no explaining needed. Hope you do well brother. This young veteran has a great attitude, helpful.

This guy's so lucky to have a good support system and family that cares. My mother disowned me at a young age and is the cause of a lot of my trauma from childhood abuse, to neglect, to allowing sexual abuse to happen. My dad is dead and would just tell me to snap out of it. My grandparents are dead and never really cared about me. My one uncle is dead. Another uncle is too busy to care. One brother is dead and another is a drug addict and alcoholic and another cause of a lot of trauma. My girlfriend of 3 years broke up with me the day after Thanksgiving, and she was far from supportive. I have my dogs and one friend who I've known for a little over 20 years. That's it.

This is VERY INFORMATIVE, and educational especially for those like myself who suffer/cope with ptsd. From my experiences it has helped talked/speaking about our combat experiences. Brings it more to light and better understanding. That's been the best way I can explain to my wife so she understands or comprehends it. Talking about it and facing it has helped

You can get yourself back on track like I did, you can recover and be responsible when you use psychedelics like mushroom, DMT , it helped me take accountability for myself and start my healing process, now I’m back to providing for my family and protecting them despite my past struggles

Any addiction can be associated with ptsd! I've had the same problem and it led me to risky behavior and made me step out on my wife of 32 years 😢😢😢

Any of you guys dealt with porn addiction & sex addict . Ive always been embarrassed and ashamed to talk about after I came back and used sex and porn severely . I can drink , but alcohol and drugs wasn’t my vice as much as porn and sex . I drink socially and did have binders like get drunk and get kicked out of a bar and hiked 11 miles home in the dark, that was years ago . I was prescribed to much at times where it zombied me out. But I’ve used porn and sex a lot, Any of you guys relate? I’m so tired of being in this fucking cycle . This ptsd

Yeah, I developed a porn addiction when I was in Iraq. Then getting back home that turned into a porn and sex addiction. I mean I was doing a lot of stupid fvcking things I'm honestly surprised I never caught an STD. Not sure how common it is, because some with PTSD have issues with... Like arousal, but I think there is an aspect of hyper arousal as well. There was a SGT in my unit that had done like multiple deployments and he got caught in his car, in our battalion parking lot with his dick out jerking off to porn on his iPod... So I know it's something that happens. I did weird sht like that as well didn't get caught.

Just like any other addiction it is very common for porn/sex addiction to result from trauma and keeps you stuck in a cycle of shame. It’s totally normal and it’s your brain trying to escape from a painful reality. Work on your self worth / self love by trying to establish genuine connections to others, animals, get a healthy hobby you enjoy, a hobby that makes you feel good about yourself, like working out or wood work that will help get you on the right path to true healing and happiness. It’s a long slow process and you have to just sit with the discomfort of not having the addiction there to distract from the painful thoughts but if you allow those thoughts and feelings vs just finding a fix to take your mind off of them you will eventually process those thoughts and feelings and they will lose their power. ❤🤗❤️
