The items that you would normally eat warm or hot, you definitely need to have heated up with an mre. Also they come with salt and pepper, definitely use it! The heat packs need water to work. So put some water in it then the packet of food, roll the top and let it heat up for a minute. As for the coffees! You never drink it. You pour the coffee, sugar packet, and the powdered creamer together and shoot it all then take a sip of water and swish around.

Hi Joel, FYI. MRE'S are not only fed to our troops during war time. This what we eat when in the field or on training missions when hot food cannot be brought to us for whatever reason. ENJOY!

Yeah, water to the black fill line at the bottom of the heating bag causes the chemical reaction which creates the heat to “cook” the food. Gotta use water on the bottom of the bag next time! Cool to see either way!

Awesome Joel. I did a ration review channel for a few years, was the only one doing Canadian rations for a while. I've tried most of what you show in this video, didn't get too fussed over the potatoes au gratin but i do remember them being really salty. If you ever need help acquiring more rations let me know. I have a bunch at home and they aren't easy to get shipped in to Canada. I am on the West coast. A few hours southwest of Scott.

Joel, you can heat those things up, trust me they taste better hot. When your out in the field we don't really care if they are hot or cold...you just eat them and they are packed full of calories and sugar to keep energy levels as high as possible. Some stuff is pretty nice some you just close your eyes and chew it down. Also we swap a lot between ourselves, always someone wants what you have for what they have.

I ate these for 10 years in the US Army Guard. The expiration is on the box, not on packaging. The boxes have an adhesive only a Soldier can open with their hands 😂. They ALWAYS taste better warmed up. The gum is fabled to be a laxative because they say the MREs back up your digestive system so you don't have to poop yourself in battle LOL.

Me and a mate were marshalling a car rally on an active Army base in England a few years ago and spotted a skip near to our junction. We went for a nosey and found it was full of recently date expired ration packs. So we filled the back of our car with as much stuff as we could fit in. We also found two brand new MAN 4x4 Military Cargo Trucks. Unlocked, each with a key in the ignition. I think the Army might have noticed if we tried to sneak them out though.
