This is why Sambo and Judo are so entwined in the arts and why so many Sambo fighters are successful in Judo Championships and MMA for that matter . Players Fedor Emilienko and Kabib Nurmadomagov ( and in the earlier days Russian judo's Shoto Kharbarelli ) have dominated Judo, Sambo and MMA ; Kabib even states that Judo is the higher art for pure technique ,as the foundation for enriching Sambo and MMA . I think they compliment each other superbly in comparison to others in MMA ; the success rates speak for themselves !. The guy in this military footage is superb in self defence here. A lot of Judoka can learn a real lot of knowledge from Igor Yanikov ; a great exponent . I don't think Vasili Openchenkov realised what had unleashed onto the world with Sambo .As an former direct pupil of The Kodokan , he is really embracing the philosophy of Jigoro Kano - Seiriyokuzenyo - maximum effeciency through minimum effort , with the added instruction from Kano " do not forget atemi !". Thanks Chadi for sharing this . Keep up the good work ,it's important we know where Judo is going without losing where we have come from also !:)

Oschepkov bring Judo in Russia. It was not sambo it was Judo from 1913 -1917 period of time. It was old judo with leglocks and without new olimpic rulecuts. Name "sambo" came later when government wanted to cut Japan mentions I guess. Also Russian Judo entwined with freestyle wrestling because many sambo wrestlers competed in freestyle wrestling also.

Do I have to tap the (judo) sign? If you can't practice actually doing a technique in a live randori, like grabbing their hand to just break fingers or brute force snapping their elbow in a standing ude-garami, then you will do this move for the first time for real only once (fighting in war, life or death self-defense situation,etc). Judo works because you can do the moves thousands and thousands of times drilling and randori/ competition, so in any situation I know my o-soto gari will work to put the person on the ground. If I have only practiced the grip, step to the left, and kicking my leg outside, but I never finished the reap and have never thrown anyone then how likely is it to work when fighting another soldier?

The very phrase "martial art" came to English (and other European languages) from sword fighting manuals. In this context "art" meant just being very good at something (same as in expression like "state of art technology"). Some alternative meaning is basically just marketing from 1970-ths and onwards and isn't worth mentioning.

@@Annokh thanks this is Interesting to know . I would add to your statement that the word martial comes from Mars the God of war but unfortunately some martial art styles has becoming a joke like Aikido previously Aikijujutsu which was the true art of war at least back then. Ninjutsu ( KZbin Version ) could be the next exemple of this detoriation .

@Annokh
@Annokh 9 ай бұрын
I'm fairly sure that "systema" you're talking about has nothing to do with Russian military. I know about at least two of them, and while one of them (Kadochnikov's system) does use traditional army gear like trench spades and bayonets, it has never been officially adopted by anyone. And what we know as "Systema" worldwide is... ugh. It obviously has nothing to do with any enforcement org.
