It's been a long long time but I seem to remember always using the e-tool as a pick while kneeling or prone and rarely if ever using the e-tool as a shovel while standing. It also worked best for me to put the shovel blade toward the outside of the carrier and the flat handle part toward the alice clips. We also tied everything down with boot laces where the alice clips connected to the pistol belt and used a full length boot lace to tie off each canteen so you could get a drink without untying it and just wrap the lace around the kneck of the canteen. Also a full length boot lace was tied to the handle of the e-tool as well so you could use it while still being tied to the pistol belt or you could untie the boot lace from the shovel handle if it got in the way. At least nothing got lost that way.

The reason that you see "round shovels" as we in the UK called the pointed blades, is entirely down to the British military having to shift rubble, rocks 7 stony soils. Square shoves would jar against the hard stones through which they where expected to penetrate. I have experienced using both round and square shoves with a large rubble filled pond which needed new pipework fitted. The round shovels reduced the backbreaking stresses dramatically and increased overall productivity dramatically, cutting down what was taking weeks to 3 days in total

Example could be something as simple as the power going out at night and you working through it the next day, 3 days, week at the house. Even up to the bugging out phase. Could do a series. Maybe a scenario working through a get home using your get home bag. Maybe break the series up to the first day, 3 days, week, etc. More of an application type video as the scenario plays out instead of a bunch of cool gear and supplies that we may need for an emergency. Would love to see it all come together to fill in the holes of my family’s preparedness. Have a great year to all!

I served in former Yugoslavian army, we had both types of those folding shovels. We preferred older type better (even if it rubbed unpleasantly against ones leg while marching). It has feature to open half way so it makes a hoe and you can swing it and cope with hard terrain or to make clearing surface of grass or debris easier and faster. Also that saw is pretty much useless.
