What is on the right side had to be done by your right hand. As a guy who had a few wars behind, and use that first rifle in the video, I have to say it is unbreakable. There were occasions I haven't time to clean it for a month. Dust, rain, cold, you name it. It just works. And put the bullets where I wanted. And by the way, all you guys call it Yugo. Although it is manufactured in the Kragujevac, in former Yugoslavia, it is also manufactured by a Serb gunsmiths. That factory is older then any Yugoslavia. Older then many countries that exists today. It is waaaaaay more Serbian gun then Yugoslavian. Nice video, keep on shooting.

Both rifles, old Yugo and a new Zastava, were made in the same factory, Zastava Oruzje, in city of Kragujevac. Essentially both rifles are Serbian made as early development of rifle was done in Belgrade in Military Tech Institution before it was moved to Kragujevac. First model M67 7.62x39 mm was made in 1963 then improved version AP MP70 (Automatska Puska) was made in 1970. Main differences to Soviet model are 3 ventilated openings for cooling, ability to shot rifle grenade, more bullets per minute, slightly better distance and accuracy. Anyway, too bad we cant get it here in Australia.

nice video....the reason why old Zastava rifles didnt have chromed barrels is because chrome is a strategic metal and since former yugoslavia didint have chrome deposits chrome would need to be imported and in case of the war that could be a problem. By the way, the bolt hold open notch on the selector switch is NOT “just for the American market”. This was a Yugoslavian/Serb innovation dating back to the 1970s. From Wiki: “Some rifles were also equipped with a notched selector control which allowed you to lock the bolt rearward by closing the dust cover on the charging handle.” The last shot bolt hold open follower in the mag was also first issued to Yugoslavian troops. It does offer a certain functionality which is accomplished by learning a little manual of arms technique where the operator, upon the last shot being fired and the mag follower is holding the bolt back, pulls back the charging handle to line it up with the bolt hold open notch, then swipes up the selector switch in one smooth motion to lock the bolt back. Then, upon inserting a fresh magazine, the selector switch is pressed down allowing the bolt to slam forward, chambering a round. With practice this technique allows an AK to be reloaded with nearly the same speed as an AR.

I bought one of the last Opaps that Bud's gun shop had in stock a few years ago, imported by Century Arms. My Opap has no sling swivels, all numbers match except the buttstock, it has the accessory/scope rail, and is one sweet shooter. The front handguard is some kind of cheap American made wood and the pistol grip something plastic and American made also. All of the rivets are excellent and my sights are straight. The last time I was at the shooting range I was firing at 300 meters on steel. I had forgotten to move my rear sight to 300 meters. I was just using "Kentucky windage/elevation" and over 50% hits. I would like the new Zastava rifle but I'll never give up my Opap for any other AK.

@Dead_Again13132 жыл бұрын
@@pdog109 Chrome lined extends the barrel life and protects it from corrosion to an extent. Makes it easier to clean. Go with Chrome lined if you have the option but don't let the lack of Chrome keep you from buying something. Even some of the most high end rifles these days sometimes skip Chrome and go without it (HK416). It's not a MUST HAVE but I think it's NICE to have. Also, Chrome lines barrels are very slightly, barely less accurate but most people aren't good enough a shot to notice and it doesn't matter in an AK. That last part is my opinion.

I bought one of these a few years ago and I just want to share a couple cons... The rear sight spring isn't strong enough to the keep the sight in place and it can easily be wiggled back and forth. I've found this to be the case on every M70 that I've found in a store as well as the one that i own. I intent to tune the spring or find another one that provides a tighter fit so that the gun can be shot accurately at more than 25 yards (i realize this is not a deal breaker for most AK guys since y'all just mag dump into trash but there you go). The release button is a great feature but the rear trunnion of an M70 will shift a couple thousand rounds in causing the button to get stuck. You can still hammer it in and out and you can send it back to zastava for a free re-fitting which only takes like a week. My friend has the same issue with his M70 and zastava even told me that it's a really common issue. This is also not a deal breaker but this gun seems to have a reputation for being the perfect midgrade AK on the American market but there's definitely some common issues that i wish I had known about before buying it. It's not a terrible gun and I still like it but you could probably get a PSA for half the price without sacrificing quality.

I don't know if they are really uninformed in the USA, but Zastava Arms has been producing AK since the beginning of AK production in Yugoslavia, there is no Yugo AK and Zastava AK, it is exactly the same manufacturer all the time, although the materials and tools may be different ... Zastava has been producing weapons since 1853, and before the Second World War, the factory had about twelve thousand employees and ten thousand machines, and they have only continued their continuity until today ...

The missing accessory on the imported version of the rifle is a sight for tromblon mines, which is also a gas regulator. It is standard for police and military unit.

I don't know if you guys noticed but Zastava selector lever works opposite of any other. And it is the same on mil-spec ones. It usese that button and RPK chassis because it was meant to be able to fire grenades off the barrel, that's why de militarized rifles have that flip up sight which cuts off the gas. I've heard from a guy who tried to fire grenade from the barrel of different AK, the rifle disassembled itself and top cover and recoil spring hit him in the face. Trust me, his face is full of scars. The top cover hit him right below the eye in his right cheek, and the recoil spring hit him just over the right side of his mouth. Bigger hand grip was put there because average hand size for male Yugoslavians is about 8.1", so .50" bigger than the Americans in average.

I have a Yugo AK and it says M70B1. Mine has the plastic pistol grip and has a three position safety. Also has these flip up grenade sights which cut off the gas like my old Yugo SKS. The barrel pin has been machined flush and so nice I actually had a hard time seeing it. The safety is funny in that on S, it won't fire, but if you push it to the first stop or the second it will fire. I am not sure, but I think this thing was converted to semi auto at some time and the selector is for semi and full auto if the gun had an original trigger / firing setup. All I know is that the gun is more accurate then other AK's I have shot and the mags do not rattle or wiggle when in the gun. I do like that plastic grip. I have small hands and this grip fits me perfectly where as other AK's I have used with the larger wood grips just do not fit my hand as well. Anyway, I like this old M70B1 and bought it because of how well it fits me.

so you have a military version...nice...take a good care of it and it will never fail you
@archangele14 жыл бұрын
@@zagrepcanin82 I keep it clean and take real good care of it. It does draw stares from others and if they pick it up they are amazed at how heavy my AK is as compared to others save for the milled receiver Russian ones. I find that this one I have is more accurate then most AK's I have ever tried. With my own hand loads I have shot 2 MOA groups which is quite good for these rifles.

I happen to possess an early Yugoslavian M70AB2 which is the underfolder variant with grenade launcher using a DCI RPK receiver which were known for quality. I won't say how much I paid for it because many would cry, let's just say it was in the 400.00 range NIB. Shoots like a champ, I call it my tank. Quick note: I find it strange but a beneficial fact that Zastava has brought back the use of RPK type receivers in a model without grenade launching capabilities as the designers used the RPK receivers to increase strength of weapons used for the high stress job of launching grenades, the new rifles lack the grenade launcher sights and gas block valve.

@ArchangelsSword4 жыл бұрын
@@slr7628 I have a retainer plate coming in soon and I'll do it when I install that. I don't know if it's the tension, maybe the nipple in the saftey needs to be filed down a hair because it moves fairly easily between the notches in the receiver, it's just extremely hard to get out of the notches. Cant do the two finger swipe method.

@joeruiz40102 жыл бұрын
Of course in hoping that the US Political Climate remains neutral/friendly to firearms ownership, I really hope that Zastava will reintroduce the OPAP; give us the option to buy new M70s w/out Chrome Lined Barrels. Would be cheaper too. I also hope that they start making and offering NPAP M70s again as well (Stamped AKM style 1mm thick reciever), alongside setting up a full-time manufacturing facility here in the USA (I got a feeling they're moving in that direction as companies like Beretta, Sig Sauer, and Glock did in the early 1990s).

I want an AK and a Vz. 58 to go in my 7.62x39mm "collection". I am really leaning toward the ZPAP for that use. I currently have two Norinco SKS rifles and my Ruger American Ranch in 7.62x39mm. The AK is a "link" to the StG44 so that is another reason.

Ive got 2 Serbian models,, M70 OPAP and M90np which are both the heavy bulged trunnion with a little heavier barrels... The M90np is cool because not many were imported,, it uses AR-15 magazines, has a 18" barrel,, has a 3 position adjustible gas regulator,, and is caliber 5.56 Bought them both for 600.00 each about 5 years ago.

I bought mine when they first came in country @ 1985 or thereabouts. It has easily been the most accurate AK Ive fired over the years, out-doing Bulgarian, Hungarian, and various Chinese manufactures. Possibly because of the non-chromed barrels? Not that the others are sloppy, just over-shadowed by the Yugo... Ive left it all original except for installing a (sort of) M4-type half-birdcage flash suppressor. I very much prefer the dark walnut wood over the original blonde Yugo wood, altho other than coloration I have no issues with the original. Some have called it "teak" but is far more likely to be a native European wood (some have said elm). Ive gotten a couple other Yugo-made firearms and they all show attention to quality and durability.
