Great watching this while drinking a glass of refreshing milk.

Do they take a vial on milk to sample? Here they take a sample of milk from every farm to be tested. If there is a problem the whole truck is dumped. Each farm has insurance that way the other farms will still get paid for their milk if a truck has to be dumped.

+Rdrake1413 yes its the same here

we have 1 collection on our route and he's renowned for trying to bulk up his volumes by adding water to it. We do 7 collections in total on the route, 19k ltrs when we're done. He's had his samples refused on 3 separate occasions now and has had to pay for the full load as the whole lot has to be dumped. But he's an old guy and set in his ways and will never change. Never seems to clean his tank out either as the filter is always full of yellow "cheese" (congealed butter fat) when we finish and it's so bad that it blocks the flow rate on the next drop if we don't take the coupling off, remove the filter and clean out all his crap.

@@wagmiorngmi Seems like there should be a government agency checking the milk trucks. Here in the US where ever there is food processed there is a USDA agent inspecting to make sure they are complainant with the laws.

@@Rdrake1413 there already is. We have to take 2 sample pots for each collection - 1 goes to our governing body here in the UK and the other is for our own dairy. Most of the time there's never any issue. Usually if there is it's because the driver hasn't done a 2 min stir cycle before taking the samples from the vat. That results in bad numbers when it's tested in the lab. We always do a stir unless the cows have just finished milking and it's already stirring and on cool. I had one today which I couldn't collect as the temp was at 8.5C. I will take it at 6C, maybe 6.5C at a push depending on the volume as it cools once it's in the tank with the previous collections.

Know what you mean! I have just retired after 20 odd yrs in the milk distribution, not much milk left in Herefordshire!. In the heyday I was taking over 60,000 l of milk everyday into Cadburys, and not driving more than 10 miles from the factory!!

a lot less dairy farms in gloucestershire too, only 2 left in our village now, there were 5 10yrs ago

***** Hi, if you have an existing system running on R22 then legally you can continue to run the system. (whether it is wise to do so is up to the systems operator to decide) As of 1st January 2015 there is a service ban on R22 systems, what this means in practice is that if the system develops a leak then there is no R22 available to replace the leaked refrigerant, and also it is illegal to work on the system, so even if the system is leak tight it would also be illegal to replace a component that may have failed. It is illegal for the engineer working on the system and also for the owner of the system to let the work be done. Basically you can run it till it breaks down but no work involving the gas can be done. (this is assuming you are in Europe) www.ior.org.uk/ior_/images/pdf/fgassuport-rac-8%20ods.pdf I have converted about five milk cooling systems so far to a different refrigerant, R407F, keeping the old R22 compressors etc, it is not a simple process but is feasible in most cases, i have a few vids on my channel of the conversions. Beware drop in refrigerants such as R422D, they are not as efficient and may well be banned also due to their global warming potential being over 2500. Most new milk coolers are running on R404A which you could run in an existing one, it is likely you would need to change the condensing unit to do so, BUT this refrigerant will be banned in some systems in 2020 so i would not recommend this route unless it is an emergency repair to something that has failed without warning. If you have any more questions or i have not been clear please feel free to ask. This is my understanding of the regulations, you would need to check with Defra if you wanted to be 100% sure.

Hi, I don't know much about this sort of thing. Are you saying that the type of refrigeration we have is no longer legally serviceable?

So you give the bulk tank a scrubbing at least once a month but you use the automatic bulk cleaner everyday??

thefunkyfarmer reason I asked is that I wondered where his sample box was! I speak from 41 years experience!! started as a churn collection driver in 1973! happy days!

brandywhi good point. We normally have our milk collected at night so maybe this was a special pick up for some reason, I can't remember. I can just about remember when we had a churn collection, I think it finished in about 1973. We still have a couple of churns kicking about

@@brandywhi he should have it on the metal frame at 2:37 to the right of the computer, but it's not there. He might have it in the cab. Our new tankers have cab fridges and I keep my sample pots in there, saves having to bring an ice box with me like we did on the old trucks.
