I am milking one Nubian right now . Had two but I let the otw on dry up as we don need a much milk. Was feeding my daughter's Nigerian dwarfs from our fat milk. They're now weaned off. We don't sell our milk but us it or our own consumption. We do pasteurize in a machine. Goats milk is so good. W will milk this girl for. Couple more months til sh settles them dry her up. Gonna miss the milk over the next few months you. We raise meat goats for market and sell so we need every one of them bred here soon. I got tired of an milking and bought a small machine and I absolutely love it . We milk once a day and it's just perfect .

Love your videos, could you explain your routine with the once a day milking, like age you separate, how long , and how that looks like when you wean. Thank you for the helpful info
@RoughRoadHomestead3 жыл бұрын
Yes I'd love to hear this info too. Because we have been looking for how old, and how to wean the kids. Especially when we don't have the infastructure or large herd size to separate full time. We are just getting started. Have 3 goats. Two adults and one doeling. Our other doe will hopefully kid sometime this month. I can't separate any of them full time because then one will be lonesome. Thanks. Love the videos

In my video today, I answered these questions! Hopefully I covered it enough to explain how I do it. 😊

I thought there was a test that gave a grade of quality, ie: milk fat, nutrients, etc. I'm assuming that is a TOTALLY different test. Do you run the other test too, or is that not really 'a thing'? My most skittish goat, Hazel, is my favorite milker. I never imagined that was a possibility. She is always so scared and doesn't like to be touched except when she's on the stand. Our vet says she's the most difficult animal he's ever worked with. Lol But on the stand, she is just so sweet. I just love our 1:1 time together. My most favorite goat off stand is my most difficult on the stand. What is going on in our farm? 🤪 Hovels are a must! But no matter what, I just love milking so much. It's my favorite chore throughout the day. I do milk until a small container and then transfer that into a large jar kept in an ice bucket by my stool. It is extra work, but it's so hot here in summer and by the time I'm done milking... it eases my mind to not NEED to rush. And...i can't brake the ultimate farm rule, If you can carry 1 bucket, then you can carry 2. 🤷♀️

There is a test doe that too! And it is a different test. When I tested each goat individually, it gave the extra information. I’m the same way with my difficult goat 😆 my favorite! And that’s great to get it cooled down quickly!

Ah! Thank you so much! I had lots of spacers and braces-they were large, very crooked teeth to begin with 😆 But any smile that lights the eyes, is awesome. So keep smiling a smile that reaches the eyes! 😃

Hey! I was wondering if there was anything you had already tested your goats for before SPCTC and SCC came around for legality (like, bloodwork wise or for any zoonotic illness) before you began consuming their milk? I’m new to this and just want to make sure I don’t accidentally make our family sick! 😆

There is a once a year blood draw that is required in Montana. It's a biosecurity screen and tests for CL, CAE/OPPV and Johne's. And the best thing you can do on your end, is keep everything really clean: Your jars, milking bucket, and clean the teets. Keep your goats healthy.

@@DelcifromALifeofHeritage I start an organic farm in Thailand right now. I have goats sheep rabbits ducks chicken and a dog. After an heavy accident I can’t work anymore and lost the ability to work as a financial adviser. Thank god, I come from a family and my greathrandma and granny had a small farm with goats and other animals too. I love these interesting animals. So funny and with some attachment they are like dogs. I love your channel and your attitude towards life. I must say, even handicapped I never felt so centered and fulfilled before. It’s an adventure and a big challenge. I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. „Don’t be afraid to learn something old“ ;-) Wish you the best. See you in your next video
