I wondered the same, especially as Patsy didnt seem to have a lot of milk, and he wasnt the best at responding to a teat and latching - bottle feeding also always risks pneumonia, especially if htey are small, as litle bits of fluid may not get swallowed fully or get into the lungs Gary was wise to warn people not to get too attached - but he was so fluffly with those huge ears :)

I have a small flock of grown bottle baby sheep and goats but in each case they were either orphaned, the weaker of triplets or the mother was too young herself. When a healthy mother refuses to nurse, she usually knows instinctively that there is a problem. Poor Bo. 😢

Beau (Bo?) was so tiny, Patsy must have known he was not healthy enough to survive. Thank you for doing all that you did to give him a chance to thrive. Years ago, we raised Bichon Frise. One of the moms had a liter of 4, but kept pushing one little pup out of the box. I took her to the vet who saw nothing wrong with the puppy and advised me on feeding and keeping her warm. Followed the instructions to the point of carrying the puppy around in my bra. Everything was going fine until we had to go to a wedding. By the time we got home, the puppy was gone. For years I have regretted not taking the puppy with us in my bra. No one would have known and I could have possibly saved her life. Beau was so cute. Loved his color. You did your best, but Nature doesn’t always agree with our choices.

Wow. My 1st. Cousin did the same thing on a track at the High School, fast walking for exercise, just two weeks ago. She lives alone and it has been impossible for family to stay with her 24/7. Horrible accident. She cannot even open a door to get out of the house. She has had two surgeries and has not been accepted for extended care at hospital, where she will get the PT she needs. She has had lots of prayers and prayers do work! She is blessed to get the help she needs to get her hands moving and to prevent frozen shoulder, etc..

Deejay’s Jesse was tiny and very ill... she held her in her lap in the car while Daniel drove to the vet... it was a miracle that she survived. Hard work, many vet visits. Now she is living at Cog Hill :) So sorry you lost Bo, he was so handsome. Love the new calf. ❤❤❤

😥I rescued a tiny feral kitten that the mother had kicked out of the nest in late September 20 years ago. Less than a week later, I saw the mother with 2 kittens at least 2X his size, so I realized then that the mom had decided he wouldn't make it through the winter. He did manage to live to be 17, so he didn't have the challenges that Beau had. Sorry about Beau, but Mom knew best. I fractured one wrist at a time with no complications, so cannot imagine what it's like to do both at the same time AND manage recovery from surgery. I'll be praying for her every day!
