A short video to show the process of making millefiori patterns in polymer clay.
This is a very ancient technique that has been around since the 6th Century. More recently it became associated with Venetian glasswork producing paperweights with tiny glass flowers - the origin of the name millefiori (literally 'a thousand flowers').
It has now been "borrowed" by polymer artists like me - the resulting small blocks of clay have a unique design that runs through the clay like the words through a stick of rock.
These 'canes' are then sliced and used as decorative veneers in hundreds of different applications.
The patterns are unique and are usually impossible to recreate.
