Bob Gale said that setup was done mainly because the script had become too long when he and Zemeckis wrote it, so they ultimately split it in half. As a result, certain plot threads had to be placed in one film, that wouldn't be resolved until the next one. Thankfully, Zemeckis and Gale had convinced Universal to release the sequels just 6 months apart, instead of waiting years.

It actually wasn't emplied he burned through his family fortune, he actually says he went through his family's entire fortune to develop time travel in the very first film when he's explaining time travel to Marty at the mall. It could be implied that the house burned down in the 30 years between 1955 and 1985, but how commercialized the street is in 1985 that Doc's garage is facing, I think the better bet is the street was a main road and like many residential main roads in growing towns in the during that era, the people sold off their houses to commercial ventures as they were offered a lot of money for prime commercial front real estate. It happened in the city I live in. US 66 came through town, and the streets it was on were originally residential, but due to increase in traffic noise, the people sold their properties and moved to quieter neighborhoods, and now those streets are all commercial property. There's a few houses here and there, but none are residential, they are used for commercial purposes. I'm guessing Doc sold the mansion for the money, and it was torn down. Sad, but it is what it is.

Everything that bored this sign was forbidden to surrender (many soldiers scratched or took off the insigna from their equipment in order to surrender with less guilt). The time machine was almost a refrigerator and they were going to have it get to the Nevada test site where they used to test nukes. They didn't go through with this mostly because they were scared kids would lock themselves in refrigerators, and also it was a stupid idea. Eventually they used it in Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. That's also where the expression "Nuke the fridge" came from. You would use it like "jump the shark" or "Screwed the pooch."

Fun fact: The director of the back to the future movies says that he regrets shooting the movies back to back because he was editing II while shooting III, therefore dividing his attention. He feels like the editing of II suffered because of it.

If you look in the background when Doc and Marty are looking at the Hill Valley map at the train station, you will see two things. Clara Clayton is there, facing away from the camera, having just arrived in the town. You will also see the famous clock, and it's pointing at 10:04, the same time it would be struck 70 years later.

If you're going to do 80's movies you should really watch some John Hughes movies, true 80's classics.... like, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Good, because I'm seeing a lot of "guy" movies being recommended to you. Nothing wrong with a girl watching guy-movies, but if you watch too many in a row, you'll stop showering. You need some heart/emotion sprinkled in with comedy and action. Good action should have feels infused in it, and some of the things that are big popular action classics that are being recommended, have jack shit feels.

Doc Brown’s house is the Gamble house. It’s a turn of the 20th century craftsman home in MY home town of Pasadena, California, which is now owned by the USC school of architecture. All the exterior shots were filmed there and you can buy Back to the Future merchandise at the gift shop. But the interior shots were filmed at the Blacker house which is a similar craftsman home from the same era, also in Pasadena.

I always loved how Marty outgrows that whole "chicken" thing after hearing his great-grandparents talk about his great-granduncle namesake, who died in a bar fight because he couldn't deal with being called a coward. His granddad Seamus was SO different from Marty in looks and personality, that I loved all the scenes they had together here.

“Did they have fireworks in the 1800’s” lol yes fireworks were created in ancient China 😊
@carlhartwell79784 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true. Just for clarification, yes fireworks were first invented hundreds of yrs ago, or even millenia ago in China, but in the west it was much later, in fact probably around 300 yrs before the setting for this film. Also, just for clarification, the fireworks in china were almost certainly not rockets, just basically bamboo sticks in the ground with combustible powders etc coming out of the top, yes still fireworks just not quite what people consider as fireworks today!

Hats off to Thomas F. Wilson, who played Biff(s) and Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen. His acting skills, mostly comedic but also dramatic, made the movie so much more enjoyable. It's too bad I haven't seen him feature in other movies, I'd think he'd be a shoe-in for a lead.

The house is called the Gamble house, they have regular tours of it. Though I believe they shot some indoor shots at a different house but if you'd like to visit the awesome Gamble house, it's in Pasadena, CA close to the 210 freeway. I drive by it often. Also, George and Loreans house in 1955 is close by in South Pasadena. The 2 homes are on the same street, Bushnell Ave, also same street where Biffs grandma lives though that house now looks much different

About the "Chicken/Yellow" thing coming out of nowhere: My theory is that when Marty changed history in the first movie and his parents were now more successful and he lived a more privileged life, his disposition and behavior also changed slightly, too. Which leads him to be more cocky and more defensive about being called a chicken. So the Marty in the 2nd and 3rd movies is slightly altered from the Marty in the 1st film. The real world reason is probably that they decided to add that into his character later for drama.

FYI, Doc's house is actually The Gamble House, located at 4 Westmoreland Pl, Pasadena CA. It's a Craftsman type mansion designed by Greene and Greene and built in 1908. They used to have tours inside, but not right now. They do have exterior tours and a book store/souvenir shop. I think the house was deeded to a local University, probably UCLA but I'm not sure about that. It's a local landmark and as such there are tons of pictures of it online. Huell Howser did a video about it years ago showing the inside if you are interested. www.pbs.org/video/descanso-gardens-z6b2nf

Did you notice one of Doc's kids at the end of the movie being hilariously creepy and pointing at his big mac and nuggets? I'm surprised no one noticed it during production or editing. He's my hero for getting away with it. In Teen Wolf, another Michael J Fox movie, some dude actually got away with pulling his pecker out entirely for a couple of seconds at the end of that movie. Either someone missed it in editing or they just said, "F 'em all, I'm keeping it in".
