The basic question is "what is the signal strength recieved by the extender?" i mean, even if you see 100% signal strength from the extender, if the extender itself has 20% signal from the main router, you're only getting 100% of this 20% which essentially is still a 20% signal. Connectivity is one thing but, on wifi, the network reliablility lays on its weakest component.

I'm thinking the corner where the repeater is on might be affecting the signal from the router. Let's say you test the signal of the area where the repeater is on and it says 70%. Wouldn't that bottleneck the signal given off from the repeater to the other areas to 70% as well?

70% is the signal strength. So if (not sure there is) any signal speed was lost your right it would bottle neck the wifi. Regardless thought, I'd prefer 70% in a room I previously had 0% in.

The ethernet port is so you can put it in access point mode. It’s far more reliable than trying to stretch the signal if you do have access to an ethernet

If you connect using WPS, the extender will use your router password for the exteneder. So for the new 2EXT and 5EXT network you use your know password.

I did the wps button push twice and seemed to connect just fine but when I went to the web browser to do setup - it said I was NOT connected to the internet . That is odd. I see both channels in my computer in the office and on my android just fine. And bot channels seem to work fine when selected. But the web site said it was not connected to the internet. The device shows all lights green too. There is no other way to troubleshoot this device so I will trash it and buy some other device that seems more 21st century technology

The firewall on your modem/router is probably preventing the IP address from being sent to the extender.... just log into you modem should be a log in displayed on the side of your modem... should be a 192.something.something. then change your firewall settings.... worked for me

I have the dlink and linksys range extender and there okay but I use 3 routers my main router and the other 2 I configure then as access points and it is better than the range extenders and I use powerline kits so the data travels through the electricity and I have WiFi everywhere now

@@MillennialReview It works great! I've been using it for a few days now and I'm very happy with it. With 2G, there used to be a 30% to 40% signal which wasn't even detected on my tablet and phone, only my computer detected the signal. Now I have an 80% to 90% signal I can use with all of my wireless devices. Also with 5G, there used to be an unusable 0% to 10% signal, but now I have a 40% to 55% signal. I don't know the exact distance from the router to my computer, but I estimate it to be about 60 feet and the extender is roughly in the middle.

I purchased one. My computer will not allow me to connect on the 2 gig frequency because of security issues. The 5 gig ban works but there are warnings of security not being up to date. I tried to update firmware but spent two days with no success in updating firmware. Support you ask - there has been no support, no chat, no call back, no email. The community suggested somethings but none worked. This is crap. Do not purchase if you are concerned about internet security.

Terrible wifi extender and a review that could not be further from the truth. Just because the little green lights are on does not mean it's working. 1. The WiFi WPA2 password used on your cable modem does not work with this device. You have to go to a seperate netgear website which works only about half the time, fill out a bunch of information, then upload to their site. Reset the device and hope it works, which it did not 3x's. I gave up. 2. The netgear tech support stated it does reduce the speed of your internet connection by at least 25-30% but you'll get an extension of coverage. Lousy product and lousy advertising.

Not sure what is "further from the truth" I have been quite happy with mine, and now 2 years later we still use it, even with my new router. Anyway, of course a repeater will be slower than directly from the router... It literally has to repeat. However that is a heck of a lot better than no internet at all. Not sure your password issues, but I didn't have any problem with that. Synced the repeater and the router and then it was a identical password on my computer. Easy as pie. Good luck finding one that fits best for you.
