Morbid Angel is an interesting band. The first three albums Altar of Madness, Blessed Are The Sick, and Covenant, have quite different sonic and vocal qualities. They were literally there as death metal emerged from thrash and they were among the people defining the genre.

Morbid Angel didn't played thrash. They were playing kind of psychedelic kind of Mercyful fate style / Venom until 1985 with others influences then jumped into their TRUE first album Abomination Of Desolation in 1986, as pionnier Death Metal with a Black metal eerie thing to it as the times. With founder drummer and singer Mike Browning ( later in Floridian " Incubus " and created the avant guard Nocturnus in 1987).

​@@ms.felonystrutter2472 Jeff Becerra of Posessed invented Death Metal. Even Chuck Schuldiner agreed. Posessed Seven Churches came out 1985 and Death Scream Bloody Gore was 2 years later in 1987. Jeff first wrote some of the songs on that album as far back 1979-1982.

‘Covenant’ is my 2nd favourite MORBID ANGEL album and I love this track. Their ability to compose exceptionally slow, but heavy songs of substance in the genre of Death Metal was way ahead of their time and unheard of in their music scene.

Well, Covenant just celebrated its 30th birthday, so this is a good timing. The video is iconic, although it is cut (a section before the outro), sadly. Trey Azagthoth is perhaps THE artistic blood that pioneered Death Metal. And every Morbid Angel album was taken a bit further, in his search for new sounds, new techniques, "acid" and "lava" of different texture...

Very surprised to see this video on here. Darker and likely more extreme than the majority of reactions. But love this track, especially how David Vincent, the lead vocalist, somewhat uses three different low voices and vocal styles in the song.

I don't know man. God Of Emptiness is the epidemy of Death Metal. The word "worst" shouldn't even be in the same sentence. I haven't heard a Death Metal song that sounds anything like it from any other band. Fall From Grace, Blessed Are The Sick, Where The Slime Live, and Opening Of The Gates come close, but those are all from the same band, lol. There really isn't a bad song (not counting the instrumentals) on any Morbid Angel album in my opinion until Illud Divinium Is Anus was released, and I am personally not a big fan of their latest album either despite it being an improvement.
