Another great cheap/free power option for electronic projects is a desktop computer power supply. They output 12 volts, 3.3 volts and 5 volts, all at the same time on their color-coded wires. And they can provide anywhere from 250 to 1000 watts. Most people just throw these out with the computer.

Newer ones are LED, but older incandescent ones are still around. Worth checking out if there's a flea market near you. Turn signal units are a cheap way to get blinking lights ( newer ones meant for LED lights, not the old bimetallic ones). Check out your local flea market ..

I'd consider using addressable LEDs for something like this. Usually referred to as WS2812 LEDs or by Adafruit's brand name "Neopixel", they use a "daisy-chain" system, so it massively simplifies the wiring. You can have about 1000 of them in a single string. You'd need to supply them with power remote from the Arduino, but the whole string would use only one Arduino output pin. They're usually surface mount parts, which you can get on strips that are made to be cut, but they are also available in standard 5mm round packages. One of the big advantages other than the simple wiring is that you get RGB control of each individual LED - up to 16 million colours (256 levels for each colour). So if you want to change the colour of a particular LED, its a code change in the driver Arduino.

Hey there. We use primarily MDF for everything. The material is farily inexpensive, and there are no woodgrain elements to deal with. If the project is "small-ish" i use Minwax spray lacquer, if it is a large piece i will use Sanding Sealer. The spray lacquer doesn't require much if any sanding between applications, but the sanding sealer does. However the spray is much more expensive. Now you can purchase a larger gallon size of the lacquer, but you will need a spray gun of some type to apply.

How was the acrylic frame made? as well as the square holes below the buttons where you are adding the lights, is the tape 1/4 inch or 1/8inch

Hi Brian, we used our Glowforge Laser cutter to make all the acrylic pieces for the build. The tape is 1/4" and we picked it up at Autozone. But you can find the tape on Amazon or other auto stores.

What program did you use to draw your wiring diagram? Loving the content! Been binge watching all day

WTG Brian! This build is coming out GREAT!!!! What gauge wire are you using to wire that all up?

Thank you! We have a mix of wire. I'm using what I have available, so most of it is 22 Gauge, and i had some 16 gauge as well.
