Really cool, Steve! I do not envy all of that sanding you had to do. ha ha

Looks good Steve. Looks like you could use a drum sander

Thanks Jim. I do have a 10-20 drum sander, but was worried about damaging it after all of that work. These are nearly 13" wide so I would have to run it through twice to cover the entire surface.

For the cleanup, after you have poured the epoxy and it has cured: wouldn't it be easier to use a larger bit on the CNC, set the depth to 1/32" (or whatever the thickness of the excess epoxy is) and let it run over the entire surface, so that you won't have to sand? Just an idea, maybe it wouldn't work because after all it's plastic and not wood. Maybe even a thickness planer could do the job

I thought about using that approach, but was concerned that I might cut into the top of the solid surface material. After all of that time invested I opted for the safer hand sanding approach. If I make another one of these I will try that or a drum sander.

Dad is really cool but my question is how come you did not let the C&C with a surfacing bit take off all the epoxy
@makingathome3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I would definitely try that now. This was one of my first CNC projects and at that time I was too nervous to try a surfacing bit as I did not want to mess this up after all of the work I had put into it.

Looks great. Do you have that program for sale so I can try it too. Thanks

Sorry. Not selling any files for this project. This one was just for personal use. I used Easel software for my XCarve CNC to make the carve. There are plenty of files out there on the web to use and you can create one yourself.
