The chinese are doing very well. A lot of high tech stuff comming from china. Insane if you think about what the country was 20 years ago. Massive respect for the chinese!
@slickstrings
@slickstrings 2 жыл бұрын
comes mostly from data theft and flat out copying. We know this is true, chinese officials have even admitted it. We can also see their f35 copy has elements copied that didnt even need to be. Example, the cockpit opens forwards, same as f35, but the f35 opens forward because it shares structure with the STOVL variant and there was no room for the mechanism behind the cockpit. The chinese copy does not have this issue, so they dont even THINK about what they are copying. They just steal and copy as much as possible.

Trust me when you lived your entire life during that time, it becomes the norm. (I'm a 22 years old Chinese) When I was in Canada I watched a homemade video of Canada from 20 years ago, and was shocked (yes, SHOCKED) that everything looks basically the same as today. It was only then that I realized how unusual of a time and place I lived though.

@@comediangj4955 yeah, we had that 1 or 2 centuries ago or so, just took us probably 100 years or so to do what china did in a single generation. The pace of change is relentless, when i was growing up bejing was called the city of bycicles because that was their only transportation and everything was maybe a couple of stories high. I remember seeing it on tv as a kid. I can't imagine what it would be like growing up in such a time. We westerners are very nostalgic and emotionally attached to enjoying things you love for a lifetime, the places where you had fun as a kid or had your first kiss still being there 30 years later. Or that shop where you bought candy still being there and the owner that used to be a young guy now being old but still remembering you from back in the day. That sort of silly stuff. Probably very little of that left in china i imagine. But yeah, progress is progress, it waits for nobody. But once you got everything you need most things last a long time. Like planning and main infrastructure and stuff is done once and then it stays the way it is basicly. Every once in a while a building or structure gets replaced. And every 15/20 years the streets get overhauled and updated to the newest in road design and things like that. Will happen in china as well eventually.

No one is covering Chinese military aircraft so thoroughly on youtube as you are, and I am enjoying following you. China is terra incognita in military technology and is full of surprises. Things are changing there rapidly and one day we will wake up and see that they are actually the strongest superpower. Could you give us your view about DF-17, I think it would be interesting. Also, Chinese companies are heavily committed to reaching the necessary technology for the 6 generation fighter aircraft. Can you speculate something about it?

*In the English sphere, yes. In Chinese there are several military shows that exists on KZbin, many of whom are done by former PLA engineers/ retired officers (these shows are ports, ie they are actually on Chinese platforms and they just have someone to upload them on youtube) Several have correctly predicted the J-35 to be the carrier based fighter for several years, as well as predicting the deployment of the ship based ASBM.

It should be noted that since the Type 003 is conventionally powered, it's likely that it will need to stay within about 2 weeks of a friendly military port for resupply unless it wants to be risked stranded at sea (I don't know that accompanying tankers would be a good solution to extend range except in peace time). Unless China can make more deals like the Solomon Islands, this severely restricts using the Type 003 and probably means it won't be in the Indian Ocean much.

Hmm. Small carriers operating drones might actually sound like a good idea. You can do the same job as a regular carrier, albeit at a smaller scale, but at a smaller cost. And with the small cost, you can operate them in numbers to make up for the differences in scale. Also being smaller ships, you don't really need the same protection, as sinking one of them isn't as devastating. (because you probably have 2-3 more.) I wonder if that might be the future, as an alternative to the super carriers of today.
@gcharny8022
@gcharny8022 2 жыл бұрын
I used to think the same but understanding the situation around carriers a bit more the problem of smaller carriers is economies of scale. The extra logistical burden your putting on yourself is tough and it gets worse when you get into combat rigours, there are only so many drydocks that can handle military vessels needing repairs so you can end up with bad force sustainment in the long term. Of course China might just try and ignore that reality but I doubt that like the USSR that will end well for them
@lordsqueak
@lordsqueak 2 жыл бұрын
@@gcharny8022 I'm thinking, the drone carriers would be combined with missile cruisers. That way they can do all the unmanned strikes from one place. (for example a cruise missile strike, followed by drones to do damage assessment. Or drone scouting to pick targets for the strike.) That should make things a lot simpler logistics wise. Since they don't need to be large vessels,, they could fit wherever a normal cruiser would. Mind you, I'm thinking ahead into the future when drones will be advanced enough to carry out the roles of manned aircraft. Carriers are very expensive in both cost and logistics, and you need to defend it using lots of other ships. But if you have smaller cruiser sized ships, and more of them. Then they would not be such a high value target, that the enemy would do everything they can to sink it. And if you really wanted to, you could still build a carrier strike force with lots of mini carriers. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe you just need the size to house all the stores and logistics around them?

I am currently struggling against these scenarios of chains of war in CMANO, even after wiping out everything worth of spitting at across the first and second island chains by more cruise and ballistic missiles than God, it is still a nerve wrecking struggle to reach out even as far as okinawa without a proper carrier force... PLAN will need them, and they will need a lot of them...

Remind me the sinking of Yamato, For US Carriers the GJ-11 and hypersonic missles will just be like Corsair and Hellcat fighters during WWII.
@min-jd5lb
@min-jd5lb 2 жыл бұрын
Destroyer-based ballistic missiles are for enemy destroyers, not supercarriers, the size of it is not enough to destroy that big of a target. That task is still in the hand of land based ballistic missiles. GJ-11 is land attack, and has questionable anti-ship capability, and it won't be much since the weapon bay size is confined. So... not quite

We'll see if any window of opportunities exist for the Chinese (or any other potential adversary with hypersonic missile technology). Reportedly the USN already has tested, qualified and is deploying an early upgrade of its existing defense systems that should/might be able to hit a hypersonic missile. But of course everything is relative and untested in real world combat conditions.

As far as I can tell, the PLAN would have to rely on recon drones to provide real-time targeting data. These drones would be relatively easy mark for carrier-borne fighters.
@min-jd5lb
@min-jd5lb 2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinc8633 Real-time targeting data is obtained by satellites, and the searching head of the missiles can locate the ship within the area that ship can possibly maneuver after its launch. The only drone they use, WZ-8, is for missile strike result analysis, which determines whether more missiles are needed to sink the ship. And that drone is no easy target, it can reach a speed over 4 mach and height of 40km, no anti-air missile can reach it.
@kevinc8633
@kevinc8633 2 жыл бұрын
@@min-jd5lb Satellites are just not good enough for real time targeting - they can be avoided, blinded or shot down and cannot be count on in a real conflict. Like you mentioned, it would require at a minimum the use of warhead's own sensors. But the plasma build up around the missile would limit its sensor capabilities, and given the speed it is traveling at, the sensor coverage would also be highly limited. In addition, the US carriers can move at least 34 knots per hour, greatly increasing the area of search necessary. I also don't see why they would relegate the WZ-8 to just post-strike analysis when it clearly can be useful for obtaining real-time targeting info. Successful targeting of carriers would likely require a fusion of data from a net-work of sensors, with drones being an important element.

And not whatever real capability the chinese configure into there fleet, although, i wonder about the choice to go with 2 lifts. And only 3 catapults. From what i understand, that can have a significant effect on operational efficency
@tonysu8860
@tonysu8860 2 жыл бұрын
I suspect... The Type 003 design was and is intended to be an iterative design, mainly intended as China's first implementations of newly invented technologies. Also, the drawback you mention probably applies only to a sustained operation. If China intends to use the Type 003 mainly to support a first strike, then a lower operational temp is likely not an issue. It might be a lot more demanding to design an aircraft carrier comparable to the Gerald Ford, and maybe the fewer elevators and catapults are consistent with the Type 003's estimated output of its non-nuclear power.

Since China's upcoming carriers are all supposed to have EM catapults, there is probably more options even for bigger AWACS. But, unlike US naval aircraft designs every Chinese counterpart is already larger so on a similar sized carrier would carry fewer aircraft in numbers. This may mean that comparing Chinese carrier force and American carrier force can't be done well based on simply counting numbers, but would have to be done based on qualitative evaluation of each aircraft and then summing up the total capability. Since Chinese specs are based entirely on their own word, it'll be entirely speculative how each force compares.

@IsaacKuo
@IsaacKuo 2 жыл бұрын
If there were the will to do so, then yes. But the US military (as well as politicians holding the purse strings) have had a lot of skepticism of UCAVs. UCAV programs have struggled because of this, so at this point we're lucky that they even consider the job of an unarmed tanker conceivably doable by a drone. And of course, there's the political clusterfudge of F-35. Even if there were enough of a will to seriously go forward with replacing manned combat carrier aircraft with combat drones, the politicians in charge of funding such a program would be rightfully wary of creating another multi-decade boondoggle with middling results. It's kind of hopeless. Unless there's some war where a bunch of F-18s get shot down by UCAVs, no one's going to take ownership of this issue and demand the US military get real about UCAVs. That said, it's possible that we're looking at UCAVs all wrong. The war in Ukraine is showing us that maybe drones shouldn't be thought of as weapons platforms of their own, but rather a way to direct firepower from surface based weapons (like artillery). The truth is, air-to-air combat is something of a rarity, with most aircraft kills accomplished by SAMs anyway. So, a drone might not need to have its own firepower - it might rely upon surface based missile platforms to provide the firepower. In that case, it might not take too much to convert the USN tanker into a radar toting anti-air platform (relying upon other platforms to do the shooting).

The bigger the ship, the more special and advanced the propulsion has to be. As of today, only the US has that capability to build the Gerald Ford. The Type 003 will be severely limited by its own special non-nuclear propulsion and it's unknown how capable the Typ3 004 will be since it's unlikely the Chinese have any kind of idea how to build a more powerful engine than what is being installed in the Type 003.

From a computer point of views, if you just look at the hardware like CPUS, rams and even processing power. Then all looks good. However, no channel is really investigating the 'software' side of the military in China and Russia from a military operation point of view. Russia bought chinese clone of Michelin tire for their moving truck so cannot coped with the landscape in Ukraine. Because those tire are poor quality. So can you imagine the chinese military will use good quality of stuff? Anyway this is just a tips of the iceberg.
