I am not an expert like you but have been following Chinese fighters for more than a decade. And I am pretty sure that KLJ-7 series of radars aren't installed on J-10, but they are installed in it's smaller sibling JF-17 thunder. The pictures you have shown of KLJ-7A radars is from an expo, there were 3 different antenna configurations of the same radar and one of them have been selected and being installed in JF-17 Block-3 fighters. J-10 uses similar technology in radars to KLJ-7 but it has slightly bigger antenna and more T/R modules than the JF-17's one. And yes it incorporates a sophisticated EW suite onboard. The large antenna in center behind the cockpit is datalink antenna and Pakistan is right now receiving it's deliveries of J-10CP from 7 production batches of J-10C. J-10CP has different data link antennas because PAF employees its own Link-17 data link. So you would find certain features common between J-10CP and JF-17. J-10CP is basically PLAAF J-10C with modifications as per PAF taste and requirements.

Radar of J10 is not KLJ7A. It was one of the radars among 2, built for JF 17 block 3. The other one is called LKF601e. Finally after extensive tests and evaluation, PAF chose KLJ7A for block 3. TR module numbers are also wrong. KLJ7A consist of not more then 700 modules as the RD93 engine of JF 17 can't provide power for more. KLJ7A also offer a realitivly less range for such a powerfull engine of J10C's WS 10B. The Radar of J10C is not yet declassified by Chinese but it is believed to have from 1000 to 1200 TR modules which perfectly fits along with the thrust numbers.

I think the antenna behind the canopy is for data link with friendly units and AWACS, I can say this with high confidence because, the J10CP(pakistan variant) has a different antena behind the canopy, which I am assuming has been changed to interface with Pakistan's indigenous datalink (Link17) system. You can confirm this by looking at the pictures of the J10CP delivered to the PAF. The boxy device in the rudder is thought to be ECM/EW suite. But I cannot confirm this.

ARINC 429 is used because the PLAAF is regulatorily integrated into the civilian aviation network. Traditionally all Chinese aviation assets have been state-owned and dual-use, but dual-use cuts both ways. Just like how the airlines must make their aircraft available for the military to use, PLAAF also had to make their transport and cargo planes (and some special planes, like maritime patrol) available to the Chinese civilian aviation authority. A good example would be all the military transport planes used to transport volunteers to Wuhan at the start of the pandemic. Since all the military utility planes use ARINC 429, so do all the combat planes by extension. That said, the PLAAF does have their own digital databus and standards for their internal use.

Maybe the use of ARINC is related to the export potential of the airframe? Using both an international standard and a civilian one at that, would make it very easy for any potential customer to access the skilled labor needed to maintain the systems. Maybe it also allows for the certification of non-Chinese inventory to be more easily certified, not a problem China has to deal with, but the other user of the J10 Pakistan, which has extensive amounts of French and US munitions, might find very useful. But this is pure speculation.

Compared with the French Rafale, the J-10c still has a certain gap, mainly because the Rafale body is larger and can accommodate more electronic equipment, but the French Rafale head is too small, which limits the diameter of the radar and affects the performance of the Rafale radar. All I really know about the J-10: it is worrisome. It appears to be a relatively inexpensive fighter aircraft which the Chinese can produce in large numbers quickly, and which appears to have at least parity with similar western configurations, but is undergoing continuous refinement and improvement. That we in the West are not in pursuit of an analogous fighter (with the shutdown of the F-16 program without a replacement) is troubling. The use of civilian standards in military aircraft, particularly for export use, is not unheard of. Knowing how military planners think, it is likely this use of ARINC is intended for export (as Sr. Ramos and others have suggested), and that it can be easily retrofitted/replaced by a more robust system for indigenous use.

I'm frustrated with my USA too.. but let me bring you a little peace of mind. IF we continue to ramp up production of the F-35 (and obviously if we don't all die in a nuclear fire, the Russian invasion will be an absolute boon for the MIC) we will be fine. For starters - attrition. For all the bellyache about the F-35, let's be practical; the entire aircraft is built around LO/LPI. Although better fighters may exist, none exist in sufficient numbers to overwhelm our inventory of F-35's. As long as we keep cranking them out, this will remain true. The F-35 is also fully capable of providing mid-course guidance to missiles launched by other assets, including AEGIS and THAAD, for which it can also provide critical data for a hi-res 3d target track which is essential for missile defense. That's a big fucking deal. Look, I think the F-22 is the best performing fighter the US has ever made, and along with the B-2, it is a very special weapon indeed. But logistics, availability, and of course politics matter too, and when those aspects are also factored in, the F-35 has the edge. Think about it. 700 F-35 or ~120ish combat-coded F-22? The F-35s are gonna get the job done, and be ready for more, over and over. The F-22 availability is gonna drop like a rock from the word go.

@@ray32245mv Unfortunately the biggest problem with the F22 had nothing to do with it's capabilities but it's inability to be upgraded. If the USA had allowed select nations to purchase the F22 I think they'd still be going strong, albeit that inability to be updated/upgraded is huge problem. Just look the pilots aren't able to utilise helmet mounted displays, and their datalinks cannot communicate to modern aircraft or other assets. It will be missed when it finally stops flying, like the A12 and SR71.

@Griffin Taurus 👹🎭 Arabs also use latest versions of F15s, Rafeals. J-10c costs $35 million compared to $80-$150 million depend on type of Arab fighters. Iran could buy 2-4 for the price of 1 western fighter.

First, who says J10c only cost $35m? Even the JF17 block3 costs more than that Second, any of Euro fighters, like rafale or J16V or Typhone, which are comparable to J10C, costs more than $100m and they are not necessary better than J10C, maybe Rafale is slightly better, but given how much India AF spend of Rafale, i really doubt Iron can afford that and still buy sufficient amount

J-10C's radar has never been disclosed, and is definitely NOT KLJ-7A. KLJ-7A is an export radar installed on JF-17 block 3s. There is only 1 photo from a far distance showing the J-10C with its radar dome removed and having its radar exposed, and its shape looked different from that of KLJ-7A.

First of all he got tha radar wrong that radar is installed on jf-17 not j-10c. plus modren missile uses its own radars they only need guidence at initial stage. Later they switch on to their own radars and that is when they are independent. They do this to avoid enemies MAWS. Third yoh dont need to have long term range radars to fire long range missiles. Awacs can provide guidance.

I’m no expert. All I know is J10C, with its superior maneuvering capability and avi electronics with AESA diameter bigger than that of Rafael and PL15 and PL10 long range and middle range missiles, has won the Chinese Air Force Golden Helmet competition by beating J16, SU35, J11B 4-4.5G fighters. I don’t think J20 was part of that competition.

@@adakot123 In fact, Isreal secretly gave the design dossiers to Chinese as the part of the compensation because Isreal has to break a weapon deal between C/I due to the American pressure, I believe China was try to buy couple of C-17 from Israel and their already signed the contract, but Isreal has to cancel the contract because US said no, so the design of this Israel plane prototype was handed out to China along with other military aids. It is interesting that Israel doesn't have to design their own aircrafts because everything they need can be bought from America. J-10C is better than Suhkoi only in mid-range fight and low speed swifting, and it is also a good choice for Pakistan to replace their cheap JF-17. Nobody said J10C is far superior than SU57, F22, F35 and J20, if you really wanna make such a statement then I assume Tejas will be the best one you have known then.
