Prosecutors began making their case Thursday for a life sentence for a Michigan teenager who killed four students at his high school in 2021, introducing dark journal entries, chilling video and testimony from a wounded staff member who dropped to the floor to block her door.

Ya I wonder how he felt and what he was thinking when the detective was reading Ethan's journal where he used the N word. That probably came from the parents. Although I had a disturbed brother who became racist after hanging out with an adult racist neighbor who took an interest in "mentoring" him and my brother completely absorbed all of his racist ideologies even though both my parents instilled in us the exact opposite. The N word was never spoken in our home and never came out of my mouth. Never even thought about it. But my brother was horribly mean and racist to other kids in the classroom. So you can't always blame the parents for a mentally ill kid's behavior but you can blame them for not being home enough, showing enough love or compassion, or getting your kid mental health help he needs. A lot of parents don't put their kids in therapy because they don't want their family problems and potential child abuse or neglect issues to come out. They don't want their kids airing out the dirty laundry. I suspect that's these parents.

When this boy told his dad he needed help, his dad said write it in your book and suck it up. The parents KNEW he had a book?! Were they that neglectful that they told him to write down these ugly thoughts in THE book and never thought once to look at this book or mention the book at any point to anyone? This would have been ALL avoided. I am not generalizing to all parents, I’m talking about the parents of this particular boy with this amount of written proof he needed critical help. There was so much opportunity to avoid this tragedy.

@@hereitis.2587 Since it has been proven that the personality foundation is set in the first five years of life and he wasn't given any type of early intervention or treatment at the onset of the signs of a genetic tendency toward mental illness, he was set up to fail. This child could have grown up in an environment where he might have thrived. I think the neglect, abuse and lack of care from his parents and their home life permanently damaged him. It's probably far too late for him to recover or be rehabilitated. The damage is done. If he'd been raised with different parents with a supportive caring childhood may have made all the difference. But I'm afraid the pathology, the desire to hurt and kill, has already been acted out. He will grow up only to have that drive in him for the rest of his life. It will never go away. He may learn some control techniques, but there will always be the great chance he will snap again. Society can't risk that and ever let him free.

Lots of neglect from his mother & father as well as no friends in high school is a recipe for a loner to do whatever it takes to get something he has never had and at 15 years old he doesn't quite understand the true nature of the consequences to his actions by hurting innocent people to obtain attention & notoriety incorrectly.. His sentence will be heard by others globally with the same contemplative ideology while grasping a clear crystallized concept to the severe negative reactions from them physically acting out those abysmal atrocities onto others who are innocent which will detour them away from being the "Copy Cat" to this kid's nefarious spectacle actions by sentencing him to prison for life with no parole all in the name of recognition to the world in regards to knowing his name attached to his preplanned execution incident he did.. The court has a responsibility to protect the public and our kids ultimately as well as detour the thoughts of others running simultaneously with his crimes in the near future.. And for anyone who disagrees I guarantee u if ur child was a victim in this crime u would want the exact same results irrefutablely..

“I want the world to remember me” So his grand plan to be remembered is to do something that isn’t even rare nowadays and happens on a nearly weekly basis, guaranteeing a life sentence where he will be locked away from society where all memory of him will fade away into absolute obscurity until he dies and is buried in a shallow prison grave where nobody will go to mourn him, remember him fondly, or discuss his contributions to society. Stealing lives will not guarantee you any type of fame. You might make the news, and have your face appear on court clips on KZbin, but that’s it. You’re not gonna be in history books, you’re not gonna have songs or movies made about you. You’ll be remembered as a loser, someone who had nothing to offer the world and opted instead to rob people of their lives. You’re not gonna have a subculture built around you like Eric or Dylan. People are tired of this gun violence, it’s not unique and discussed like it was in 1999. These morons don’t get recognition anymore. Think of all the shootings that have happened in the last several years. The majority have been utterly forgotten about and relegated to the dustbin of history.

Agreed! He already had several BB guns, as well as a .22, for target shooting. He waited until he secured a higher caliber, more deadly weapon (the .9mm). Why did he have unsupervised access to it? I suspect that she may have wanted him to kill himself (subconsciously or otherwise). Why did he receive his "Christmas gift," a month in advance? No control or discipline in that home… not even much supervision.

@heatherloughlin544 I've been saying this theory from the beginning! I truly believe they knew their son had mental health issues, and they bought him that gun in hopes he'd unalive himself! They were both too caught up on their own lives and didn't want to deal with Ethan. They both knew when they heard about the school shooting it was their son! They both took off and all of a sudden came together not wanting to look back at the tragedy their child caused! They both drained all of their bank accounts (including Ethans savings) to have money to either A. Go I to hiding or B. Secure themselves proper counsel! They both have paid attorneys while leaving Ethan with court appointed counsel! We all make mistakes as parents and hindsight is 20/20 but Ethan was literally BEGGING for help and for attention from his parents. They chose to not help and in return left families grieving for their child/loved one FOREVER and harmed many more with physical/mental health issues for the rest of their lives.

It's not a mental health disorder that you can treat or cure and there's no future where he could ever have been happy without following his compulsions. I have to disagree somewhat. This boy if given the proper care and concern when he was younger, maybe , just maybe he could have already been on proper medication and counselling. In turn, these things unfortunately cost a lot of money. This to me is where the “system” fails them as well. If there were programs, that are specially designed for troubled children that the parents could go for help, maybe he could have had a chance? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. I live in Canada and I have no idea how your government works, but ours seem to want to cut monies where the important things are! Schooling, medical, free programs, to name a few! But they will send Billions of dollars to many foreign lands to help the people there. I love all people that are respectful and make their way as best as they can, but when it starts to hurt our own Country, well I think this has to be looked at. Just my opinion. :)

I disagree, watch his parent’s hearing. When his mind starts torturing him he realizes he needs help & begs his parents to help or get him help, as they did through his life they ignored him. He isn’t a psychopath, he was going through his mind torturing him more & more & after not getting help he gave into it, but with live in treatment & counseling he can be productive. I know you see it as wrong but if you were in a situation that landed you at the defense table, would you want a lawyer that speaks negatively about you and emphasizes your crimes? You’d want one that fights on your behalf, and everyone deserves fair representation.

If you've watched videos of his early years he was a sweet little boy. He was severely neglected, isolated. No one seems to understand that neglect like he sustained is can be a trauma response more insidious than actually physical abuse. This judge is biased being a former homicide prosecutor with Karen. And psychosis waxes and wanes. He was hallucinating. This boy suffered a psychotic break. It's awful because what this judge shared publicly set this kid up for more perilous times. It's horrific all around.

He told his parents that he was seeing demons, he told his parents that things were being thrown around the house, and he asked his parents to take him to the doctor. His father gave him pills and told him to “suck it up”. I feel bad for the families that lost their children. I know I would be lost without mine. We are supposed to be making it harder for kids to get their hands on firearms, not buying them firearms. Especially when you as the parent dont have any knowledge of firearms yourself, theres a difference between being a responsible gun owner and taking your kid 16+ to the range and teaching safe practices, ect. And not knowing how to even load a gun and buying your disturbed/troubled young son his very own high capacity pistol and bragging all over facebook about it to everyone. Very poor parenting. I understand no one wants to see wrong in their children but just looking at this kids facial expressions he looks so disturbed and troubled, even the parents should have questioned his mental stability/health.
