In case you were unaware .... the baseball reference is a way people in America used to describe a make out session. First base was kissing, Second base was up the shirt .. Third base was down the pants and a home plate was all the way. So the video description of the baseball game was a metaphor for their date in the car. The announcer said as he was rounding home plate "I think he's going to make it!!" ... and she stops him. OMG!! 🤣🤣

So true, these lyrics are incredible, and so clever. IMO there's nothing that compares to the music from the 60's, especially the 70's and even the 80's. The radical change of the 80's had it's ups and downs but the ups were awesome.

Love the look on peoples' faces when they realize what this song is all about. LOL With Meat Loaf's theatrical background, he gave 110+% in his performances, especially his stage presence. As others have said, the woman in the video is Karla Devito, who is lip-syncing to the voice of Ellen Foley. Ellen was busy on Broadway and wasn't too thrilled to do a video like this, so Karla stepped in and was the one that did go on tour which she did actually sing. Phil Rizzuto was an actual sports caster and did the baseball exert, but at first denied doing it because he felt like he had an image to maintain, but later admitted to doing it.

This song was off Meat Loaf's album Bat Out of Hell, it's considered his debut album but it was his 4th released album, but first solo one. It was written by Jim Steinman, who would write most of Meat Loaf's best songs. Both met when Meat Loaf was in Steinman's musical More Than You Deserve, that's why it's so Theatrical because both came from stage plays and musicals. The singer on the album with Meat Loaf is Ellen Foley, but in the video it's Karla DeVito. Karla would return in Jim Steinman's solo album as well as later Meat Loaf albums (same as Ellen Foley). Meat Loaf first album was as part of Popcorn Blizzard, he then did a duet album called Stoney and Meat Loaf, then Ted Nugent's Free for All before coming here. Each album had a different sound. Meat Loaf recommendations (many are also Steinman recommended) I'll Do Anything for Love I'd Lie for You And That's the Truth Objects in the Rearview Mirror More Than You Deserve I'll Kill if You Don't Come Back Read em and Weep Going All the Way Two Out of Three Ain't Bad It Just Won't Quit Dead Ringer for Love Razors Edge Left in the Dark Midnight at the Lost and Found Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through It's All Coming Back to Me Now In the Land of the Pigs, the Butcher is King Bad for Good Seize the Night Alive Bat Out of Hell Couldn't Have Said it Better Myself I'm Gonna Love Her for the Both of Us Life is a Lemon & I Want my Money Back Writing on the Wall (Ted Nugent song) I Wanna Be as Heavy as Jesus (Stoney And Meat Loaf song) Steinman recommended (Steinman mostly wrote & Produced but occasionally sang) Left in the Dark Stark Raving Love Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through (Rory Dodd sung) Bad for Good Holding Out for a Hero (Bonnie Tyler) More (Sisters of Mercy) It's All Coming Back to Me Now (Pandora's Box & Celine Dion) Tonight is What it Feels like to be Young (Fire Inc) Nowhere Fast (Fire Inc, Meat Loaf sang an altered version of this) Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere (Pandora's Box & Meat Loaf) Welcome to the rabbit hole of Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf, enjoy the ride

I was in high school when Song was released. If you listen or read the first couple. Lyrics of the song. It's him stating that he remembers like it was yesterday, but it was long ago. Sitting down by the lake with no one around. When we got back to school on Monday. We would talk about the date over the weekend with the baseball terms. It is a great rock opera. It was fun watching you react the way we did back then when it first came out. I'll go back and watch it again and listen to all the lyrics. Brings back lots of memories. Keep enjoying the seventies rock and roll music. So many great musicians.

Meatloaf started in musicals in NYC. A younger him play "Rocky" alongside the great Broadway singer/actor Tim Curry and a young Susan Surrandon in the 25th anniversary musical/movie of the broadway show. To great songs of his to check out is "2 out of 3 ain't bad" from the same album, and much later in his life when he plays a young Jack Black"s father in the movie/musical "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny" in' the opening song "Kick-a-poo". Did you even HEAR a single word before the baseball analogy? You talked over the whole song so I don't see how you could have. Unlike today's songs, most songs from back then had lyrics that if you LISTENED to would convey the meaning of the song, it wasn't just mindless babbling to put some noise in front of the music, like modern music. Listen to the song, if you need to comment, pause it, say what you need to, then resume listening.

Meat Loaf was a very versatile singer. It's almost impossible to categorize him by genre, because he covered SO DAMN MANY: Pop, rock and roll, disco, hard rock, heavy metal, blues, rockabilly, operatic metal, sometimes even all within the SAME SONG. This song is a fantastic example: It switches genres multiple times throughout. He's such an irreplaceable talent, and the music world is considerably poorer for his passing.

It's a rock opera that captures the very real experience of trying to decide to have sex in the 50s through the 60s. Birth control pills were scarce in most communities and parents had to request them for their daughters. In a small town that was tantamount to hanging a sign around her neck. Boys were expected to marry the girl prior to having sex with her. It was very transactional. Lots of unhappy couples and dysfunctional families. It's also a very entertaining song.

You're great! And you're right... Too many couples in the 1950's got married because the girl was pregnant, or he promised to marry her. By the disco era, these couples were seeing the foolishness of doing what they did in the 1950's. Times had changed; birth control didn't mean mandatory marriage anymore. That's what I think this song means; credit to him for staying married to her to fulfill his promise to her. Loved watching your reactions. I bet you aren't too familiar to the sport being played in the video. :). the "Suicide 'Squeeze'" is a double entedrè.

Meatloaf was one of the very best performers. I certainly understand your excitement. You sure talked a lot. But, you really had me enjoying it.

I love this woman's reaction. For those of you complaining about her screaming & talking over the music it's her excitement & appreciation for this song. If you don't want a reaction, why are you here? Keep it up Millie.

She does the same thing for all of her reactions and it detracts from the performance itself. Most reactors will pause or just inject comments occasionally.

@@-mageron7119 I get it. I have the same problem with some movie reactors but songs are different. This is her organically expressing herself and as a Meatloaf fan, it's fun. What I don't like are reactors that give you a forced like.

There is so much of 70's American teen angst in this song. Epic. Groping by the light of the dashboard/radio. So many of us see ourselves in a lot of this song. It was long ago and far away..........

Great reaction! You totally got it. When you don’t know what’s coming, the first part is just some rollicking rock ‘n roll. But then it takes a turn and you realize there’s a story going on here. And it’s a hilarious story. And it’s the same old story. And now we’re praying for the end of time.

@@allenwhitmer8192 I am not kidding at all. It was the first time she ever heard the song. She didn’t know what was coming, how could she? But she was right there with it when she thought MeatLoaf was about to get punched, no? And she didn’t stop the song every two seconds so she could really groove with it. This was my absolute favorite reaction to this song. Bar none.

@@GrouchoGrouch bro, most people hear barely 17 and barely dressed, have a reaction to that. Not Millie, she had no idea what the song was about. But that's ok, I still like her

@@allenwhitmer8192 why even bother to watch someone’s reaction if you already know how they’re supposed to react? Millie had the most fun with this song that I’ve seen. It’s a fun song. She had fun with it. And, if you watched the whole thing, I don’t see how you can say she “didn’t get it”. She totally got it. She recognized this phenomenon in her friends’ parents. She got it. What do you want?

I really loved this song when it came out. And I really enjoy watching all the KZbin reactions to this particular song. But the reaction. S that I enjoy the most. Are those the ones where the reactor doesn't talk and talk while the music's playing instead of stopping it and making remarks? But what makes it all is the continuous saying of the same things over and over when all you have to do is say at once. It would probably be less annoying if you said everything that you do but didn't continually repeat it. You may not realize it, but you must have said how much you liked it. A dozen times throughout the song. And that would be instead of us hearing the song. I don't know how you could possibly follow the words with the amount of talking you do throughout the song. You have to realize that us listeners out here. We get it we for the most part. Probably I've heard the song before and like it. And these are the reasons. We're watching the channel for this videal. But we really would appreciate all your input. But let's repetitive and certainly occasionally by stopping the song to point a couple of things out rather than non-stop dictating.

The girl in white, Karla DeVito, isn't the girl you are hearing. Ellen Foley's album vocals were synced to the video. Karla is a great singer, but Ellen's vocals were just spectacular. Meat Loaf was a heldentenor and was offered a lot of money to sing opera, but as you can see, he went a different direction. He always considered himself and actor that sometimes portrayed a singer. Karla has been married to actor Robbie Benson since the 1980s. Ellen Foley was Billie on the original Night Court TV show. RIP Marvin "Meat Loaf" Aday.
