They are from humble beginnings in a small village in Indonesia and are blazing a trail for Muslim women everywhere, showing all people that it's not what you wear, it's what is in your heart that counts! They have three other official music videos out besides this one, PMS (their latest), Not Public Property, and School Revolution (their first). This song is a response to some members of their community saying that they shouldn't be playing this type of music. They are a lyric-driven band, so all their original songs have important messages, with a strong focus on women's rights and safety. What you hear in her voice is passion! I hope you read this Millie - Back Story: VOB was harassed and challenged in their own village, and the vocalist Marsya was actually punched in the face at one point! They talked to their religious leader and told him the Koran doesn't say that women can't play music, so what can we do to follow our dream. He told them to write a song asking God (Allah) to let them play music. This song is the result, and it became an international hit, and led to World-wide performances. When they played in Europe a couple of years back, they were hosted by the Indonesian Embassies as 'cultural ambassadors' of their country. THAT is Success! You would Love 'Not Public Property', and in France they did the best cover of Killing in the Name I've ever heard. Thanks for this one♥.
