The before and after in your MIL's room is absolutely amazing. It went from a bit dark, drab, and uninviting to absolutely dreamy and perfect. What a fantastic job. I'm sure she is so grateful and I can tell this was all done with such love for her.

I wish I had seen this when it first came out but I have a few suggestions. When you say buy quality items you can afford, you fail to realize that some people can’t afford to shop for furniture at Article or to buy new at all. You can pay a fraction of the price for items that are being sold on the Facebook marketplace, OfferUp, thrift and second hand stores. I have very high end items that I’ve paid very little for. And some things I’ve gotten free from people giving them away on Facebook and local Facebook “buy nothing” groups. There are rich neighborhoods in most states. If you’re lucky enough to live near one, find out what days their trash pick up is and drive around. You’ll find some amazing treasures sitting on a curb. If you want to look high end, shop for expensive brands that have been gently used. And sometimes new with tags for just a few bucks. I wear outfits that cost a total of $14 and get so many compliments. I look classy and like I have money for pennies on the dollar. You can do this with your clothes and your home.
@bcfriardoyle76973 жыл бұрын
You are buying quality items you can afford! The best way! 🥰

Indeed, I also do it that way. Better for the environment, the wallet and you have much more original and better quality things then buying mass produced cheap stuff.

Prints vs original art. There are so many excellent emerging artists that are priced in the same price points as mass produced Target prints. It’s worth it to seek them out to add a quality look and it means nothing to big box stores but would mean the world to some artist.
@PS-gw8sm3 жыл бұрын
@cheri groom can you please share some links to these emerging artists art?
@Nemilla3 жыл бұрын
@@PS-gw8sm This depends a bit of where you live. In Scandinavia there are a lot of well-known artists who do solely limited prints (woodcuts, lino cuts, serigraphy/silk screen prints, monotypes) and they are often pretty affordable (the most expensive ones I have only cost 220 euros/piece - roughly the same amount in US dollars). I order mostly from galleries which have online shops - but I also stalk certain local flea markets. (Sometimes people bring there paintings or prints without appraising them, and they are also sold without any professional evaluation. I got one oil painting for 20 euros. The real price would be something like 850 euros. I recognized the style right away since I had seen the artist's works in an exhibition a few years before that...) If you live in a city with galleries that have regular exhibitions and also sell artwork, go and see what they have to offer. If you rather buy online (and want to know the prices without asking) there are several good web galleries. For example Artsy.net has unique art starting from US$15 - a small acrylic painting. I'd also stalk online sites that sell used home goods (online vintage furniture stores). You may find something really nice from there. No matter what your budget is, rule number one is to remember to buy art that you actually like. If you aren't sure what you like, visit galleries (free entry) and art museums. You will start noticing what you prefer.

Awesome hack for buying coffee table books is to buy them from HomeGoods where they're usually pretty cheap in comparison to Amazon or the bookstore. Most of the time you can also take the cover off to reveal a neutral or black book underneath.

Ok coffee table books, there worth it if you have all kinds of different friends coming by I think, but I like the fact that you gave your client yours. Cookbooks are often hidden side by side on a shelf or counter. My Heritage of America cookbook is large, on a table top or in my case, on a linen press, in our dining area. It is so interesting to display seasonal photos and recipes. Another inexpensive but can be elegant, charming or whimsical are magazine ads. Marketing agencies spend fortunes on photo shoots. Cosmetic ads in a bathroom, travel ads in living area, architecture or home layouts in an office or scenery in the bedroom come to mind. When Frames by Valentina is at Target it will be an even better DIY!
