This story is awesome! I drive a 1994 F150 (single cab, 8ft bed, 5.0, E4OD) with 130k miles on it and it still runs like a champ. It was a farm truck that I purchased 3 years ago with 102k miles on it, but it's served me well. I don't know if it will make it to a million miles, but I would be happy with 200k.

Was that a million miles on the same set of hemorrhoids?
@midos67674 жыл бұрын
The reason the older gentlemen managed to get over a million miles of use out of his Truck is because it was obviously all highway miles. Highway miles don't put as much wear and tear on a vehicle; as repetitive city driving. For that reason it's common for big Semi-Tractor Trucks to have over 1 or 2 million miles and still be running.

@Swampy I've been keeping an eye on the 6.7 for years. The very early ones had issues, which seem to have been worked out, but late 2012 and up seems to be extremely solid--the bulk of the owners of them agree that it is well on its way to being "the new 7.3" in terms of reliability despite the emissions hardware. After having a Duramax spit its head gaskets entirely by 360k miles, among other issues, I wouldn't mind trying one but work insists on buying more GM products. So far our '19 Chevy 3500 hasn't had any major issues but time will tell.

@keepitmoving And not driven like a total fool. The way the head bolts are laid out even bulletproofed they can run into issues, though far less likely. That said, a 6.0 that's had all of the work done to it and driven intelligently will do a million+ miles.
@406Steven4 жыл бұрын
@keepitmoving A 6.0 driven intelligently is still a solid engine. With a few side modifications like bypass filters they last better. Bulletproofing is the best way to go but you really should lift the cab to do so. For someone with a lift and the right know-how this is easy and you can make a million+ mile engine out of the 6.0 for a couple grand but it's a matter of time, money, and know-how. I've seen this done in a driveway with some jacks and some really sketchy stands so I know it's "doable" for the regular folk but, honestly, I'd rather stick to my V10. It guzzles gas but it just needs an oil change every now and then (1/3 the oil of a diesel and the filer is 1/5 as expensive) and then I do a fuel filter every 30k miles. Cost per mile is pretty cheap unless you get a diesel that manages to just go forever without anything but maintenance!

The more people we have tuning their trucks to blow smoke the worse the emissions crap is going to get. To the point that the EPA has started cracking down on companies such as SCT which provide the hardware and individual companies which install illegal modifications (I.E. "deleting" trucks). At this point it's a race between making a clean, reliable diesel and a hybrid (or full electric) powertrain which will take the place of the diesel engine in light duty trucks.

no Name technically if you are willing to pay extra and go directly through the factory. You could choose the time and date each part of the vehicle is pulled from the line. But to answer your question. Every part of a vehicle is tracked through the whole manufacturing process. If you ever see a marking on a part that looks like 2 clocks side by side out of dots. Thats the date marker. You would have to choose the components that are most important and trace them. At a certain point though you have to decide how much effort is worth it

My dad owned mainly ford vehicles with the exception of a Mazda truck that he got in 86 but eventually sold it to my brother in law and went back to ford. All my vehicles were fords, too, with the exception of a camero that I owned for 1 year. Just last week I purchased an expedition king ranch after selling my previous expedition. As long as you take care of your car, your car will take care of you.

Florida's not great for rust. pretty bad actually, since I'm like 3 mi. from the salty ocean, and it's always humid. The good thing is is that it will always rust, no matter if you drive it or not, which is a great argument to drive your classic!

A common theme in 500-1m mile vehicles is maintenance! I spent years in auto industry. I sold parts, fluids and tires through a Pep Boys commercial accounts counter in NY as well as for a commercial only supply co. I got to know cop mechanics, taxi mechanics, construction company foremen, and service van fleet managers. Companies that only got 200,000 miles out of vehicles were ones that bought value grade everything including oil and filters. They didn't change fluids unless part of a repair. Companies that got 500-1m miles did good service along the way. Take care of your machines and they take care of you. Best luck everybody
@406Steven4 жыл бұрын
Not only do you need to follow the maintenance schedule (go by the manufacturer's "severe service" schedule, because we all are within those guidlines really) but make sure nothing gets low. When you stop to buy gas go check your oil. A quick visual inspection should also verify coolant, power steering, and brake fluid levels. In modern cars the coolant level goes down a little on its own, I don't know exactly why but keep an eye on the coolant. If your power steering fluid level is going down then you have a leak and should have it checked out--if it's getting darker then it should be flushed. If your brake fluid level is getting low then your brakes are likely wearing, get them checked and have the system bled at the same time. I advise against topping off brake fluid, if the pads wear out then the fluid takes up the slack until the fluid gets low enough to illuminate your brake warning light. At this point you need to have your brakes serviced and the fluid flushed out. By topping off the fluid you are relying on either hearing the tattletale on the pads or a mechanic's recommendation for brake pad replacement.

@tomtheplummer73224 жыл бұрын
I’m trying to get half that mileage on my 6.0. I think I can with fluids and filters and maintenance. Poor 6.4. Won’t make more than 100-150k miles. Fleet toss away. The 6.7 still has growing pains. The emissions are such a killer to fuel mileage and cost.
@kwaggs194 жыл бұрын
I sold my deleted 6.4 two years ago with 230k on the clock with 590 wheel horsepower and never had a single problem. Still see it running up and down the road. Saying they won’t make it more than 100-150 is nonsense
@kennethobando57554 жыл бұрын
Keep the coolant clean and fresh in the 6.0 and not tuned hot. It Will go the distance. And don’t use the ford gold coolant. Use a cat elc-1 coolant. Our company 6.0s have 300k miles and never had the heads off.
@406Steven4 жыл бұрын
@Swampy Exactly. The 6.4 is, generally, a 150k-200k mile engine. Some last longer, some last less. Deleted, tuned for the delete but not cranked up, and driven like you have a brain they can last (just like a 6.0) but the 6.0 is actually a stronger engine when driven intelligently. I don't know if it's because it makes less power and torque or what but the only way I'd buy a truck with a 6.4 in it is because it has blown its engine and I got it cheap enough to swap in a Cummins. @Kenneth Obando makes a good point about the coolant, something about Ford's coolant is more acidic and can cause issues. I don't know what the trouble is but when we swapped our 6.0s out to the Cat coolant with the bypass filters we had substantially fewer issues with them. Cat has it figured out (hence why they've pulled out of the onroad market--they can't build a reliable engine that can meet modern emissions) and we ran their fuel filters with an external booster pump as well--it really helped the injectors and injection pumps last better. Diesel fuel itself is a lubricant and if you're not supplying enough fuel to them a lot of issues arise.
