A couple of things for your reference: 1) the circle in the middle of the 2nd floor landing actually has a purpose. In the years prior to electricity, a huge, multi-teired chandelier of candles, and later oil would have been lowered and raised at Dusk to light the many levels of the entry/landings. 2) The reason that the "wall paper" matched the comforter and bed fabric is the French had a "penchant" for covering their walls in fabric. What you're seeing isn't actually "paper" but fabric glued to the walls. And yes, it was very expensive and a sign a wealth. 3), the lower room that once had blue wall coverings that turned brown is what is called the smoking room or gentleman's parlor. Hence, the wall coverings would turn a muddy brown over the centuries. 4) The room between the dining room and kitchens is called a butler's pantry and housed everything required to serve the family. 5) the sitting area that is off the kitchen is not a "study" per say, but is the Head Cook/House keeper and would be used as a place for the staff to rest during breaks in their day as well as an office of sorts for the heads of staff to keep their accounts, meet with vendors (dairy, butcher, baker, Gardner, etc.) and journal the staffing within the home, the activities of the family, calendar of events, and the over all management of the estate. 6) the round turret rooms, probably belonged to staff that served the family member connected to that specific room. Turret rooms were generally small and following the end of warring enemies and its initial use (archers), they were converted into bedrooms for Nannies, Head servant for the master and mistress of the estate as well as the children.

A huge request to explorers: Please, in respect for lonely pianos, to keep keys of abandoned pianos and other keyboard instruments from getting ingrained with dust and decay, please cover the keys with the fallboards (key covers) when available. This piano lover thanks you very much! Do other countries have “tax sales” where properties can be bought for the amount owed in back taxes? I know taxes are high on these old jewels. The small room between the formal dining room and the kitchen is “the butler’s pantry” where serving items and prepared foods were overseen by the butler and waited to be served by the butler and waiting staff. The chapel is by far my favorite. The kitchen and library tie for 2nd. The formal dining room is exquisite. Imagine living life there, servants doing every care from dressing and hair to running the household and keeping everything gleaming; and seamstresses to sew their day dresses and stunning gowns. The owners living out their lives there. Amazing. What a modpodge of bedrooms! (Portugal has many beautiful and interesting places. Enjoy your travels.)

At 7:00 is what was called a Butler's Pantry. The butler's pantry emerged in the 19th Century, & saw the greatest popularity in the latter half of the century. This special pantry acted as a food prep & storage area for silver and china etc. Starting with the Victorian era, most English and many European homes were built with both a butler's pantry & a traditional food storage pantry, also known as a larder. In wealthier homes, it was the domain of butlers, hence it's name. The Butler would keep all this under Lock & Key thus the skeleton key holes.

Yes, I agree... alot of things gone, including all the pictures and all those toys in the hallway. Why can't people leave things alone. I never have seen your videos but enjoying it very much. A lot of the other are now doing so much talking and not videoing that all they are into is getting people to watch the video - about 15-20 minutes talking about what they are showing or getting stuck on items just to get the money. YOurs is refreshing that you don't have to touch everything or explain what we already are looking at like "oh look at this picture, the frame (like vanna white) and oh my look at the bla bla bla).... So i am enjoying your videos very much - please don't change.

oh my gosh, BB!! I enjoyed this so much & was so excited to see everything. The chapel was so cool. So cool. I especially loved the ornate ceiling and the stained glass. Good pics of that. I agreed that the first bedroom you showed was my favorite. Loved how the wallpaper, headboard & footboard matched the wallpaper. It was cool to see the places pictures were taken down so you can see the difference from years of dust, maybe smoking & just age. I also liked the library & found the four sewing machines in there to be curious. Maybe someone gave classes? I recently learned the difference between a tower & a turret. A tower extends from the ground all the way to the top, like at this chateau. A turret is more like attached to the side of the building but doesn't reach the ground. Interesting! Thanks for this absolutely amazing tour & so nice to see Lakota with you. 😊😊😊

Just watching this and 1 point I noticed, you said some rich people from Indonesia brought the castle, they probably did that as in the U.K we would call a Job lot, art included. They most probably stripped out the art and sold it for 8 to 15 times what they brought the entire castle for, back in Asia.
@ezriclarajones92622 жыл бұрын
@Real Aiglon Yer that is definitely an art job in that case... Especially if they are buying other places, estate agents move in say that will be €5m or whatever for the property and don't hire art experts to ensure the art isn't worth a load...The art overall may not be worth the €100's of millions but still if you make €250m of a €20m purchase and abandon the hard to ship stuff it QUIDS in.

What a beautiful château! It’s sad to see how much has been stolen. This château is still savable. Aside from the black mold which could be cleaned. This one didn’t you didn’t get down to the basement or the attic. Phenomenal amount of bedrooms. I’m guessing all the little sewing machines lined up must’ve been for the girls in the family to learn. Incredible furniture wasn’t it all hand carved. Really beautiful. The one thing I don’t understand is why the loo is in one room and three rooms apart is the bidet. Just slays me every time I see that. This must’ve been the château of secrets because of all the doors that were locked I’m guessing didn’t have a bunch of hidden bedrooms or rooms. I would really love to see you go to Scotland. Thank you so much Carter really enjoyed this! Cheers from Cali 💜😎🤟🏻🇺🇸

The sewing machines were likely for a crew to sew dresses for an event, like a wedding or coming out, or in the process of redecorating. Possibly even just to craft clothing for the children or mistress of the house. In a home like that the girls didn't learn to do menial tasks.

Hi guys, loved this and thank you for sharing - it was nostalgic and magical - just beautiful. One question - how did they get all the heavy furniture up to the different floors? I know in the Netherlands they had hooks on the outside of their buildings that they used as hoists to get heavy or awkward items to upper levels. But the beds etc in here would be a real mission to get up the stairs. Learnt so much from your video - thank you.

ALL of the previous explorer's videos are 1000× better than this one. ( sorry guys) I couldn't even make it through half of this video. Explimo, and Bros if decay are the best. They give the back story of the places the visit and show so much respect to the places they visit. Which in my opinion makes their video's so much better to watch. Anyone one can explore, but not everyone can do it in a way that makes it enjoyable. Best of luck to the guy video ing this place. I hope you can someday understand that the price guess of some of the things you find aren't as interesting as the history.

Such an amazing, beautiful, gorgeous castle. It is so touching to see that most of the furniture and decorations are very well preserved. Unfortunately, it looks like a few rugged individuals enjoyed trashing the place with graffiti and smashing some of the possessions. I just don't get it.... Such a shame that some people are like that, but glad to see that you and your team took good care to be very respectful of the place!
