I think it was quite easy to work out. I mean, I don't think I recall the exact layout any more or less than the next man, but once you think that qwerty takes up the majority of the top row (Which surely most people know?) and asd are the first three letters in the second (Again, I would have thought that most would remember that.), it becomes easy to use logic as to which can and which cannot be spelt in a single row.

I'm curious why they distinguished UK QWERTY keyboard. As far as I know, the QWERTY layout does not change between regions. And the alternate keyboard is AZERTY for places like France. This is a good opportunity to learn, though! Is there a difference between the UK QWERTY layout and, say, the US QWERTY layout?

I'm a software developer and I've worked with keyboards since I was a kid, but I couldn't answer that question, because I operate the keyboard by instinct. I never felt a need to conciously think about which keys are where. I have a hard time when I switch to another keyboard layout (e.g. English vs. German), but I eventually adapt to it and use it by instinct again. When my father who was an experienced driver attempted to teach me driving, he confused the pedals because he had never counciously thought about them. He wondered if the the car was defective and almost called the breakdown service. It's sometimes better to ask someone not too experienced.
