So many good urban rivers and streams here in Western Washington. I love this one you’re on. Haven’t been there in awhile, but you don’t feel like you’re in an urban setting. Thanks Dan!

So true - so weird to have a trout stream like this below a busy freeway overpass as it meanders through neighborhood. So cool!

Hello Dan! Is it an urban river? No kidding, it looks very nice stream. Great fishing!! All the best.

Flows right through town - pretty crazy, you would never know it while on the river (besides the car noises). Thanks and cheers!

I would use Ellensburg angler anytime, We fished with Todd a few weeks ago, great guide service. Still trying to determine where you are as likely not far from my house :)

Keaton is a great guide too - if you reach out to him, I am confident he would share his secrets to this amazing urban fishery. Cheers!

I appreciate that you have just a handful of go-to flies for most any moving water you come to.

Funny too...I have boxes and boxes of different variations...but I typically use the same 12 every trip.

My local river, I love getting a couple hours in after work. I don’t carry a streamer and a dry rod, I carry a sculpzila and a dry rod.

sculpzilla is an amazing fly indeed - love that river!

While I’ve only been to Seattle two times I was able to find some decent urban fishing. A local fly shop gave me a few suggestions and I was able to catch brook trout, rainbows and either cutthroats or cuttbows on dry flies. I live in the Chicago area so there’s no real trout fishing nearby that I can take off a few hours to fish. You’re a lucky guy Dan. I’ve noticed that you primarily use a sculpzilla as your go to streamer fly. Do you ever use wooly buggers. My primary searching pattern is a thin mint bugger.

I grew up in chicago for a few years, I will say smallmouth fishing and musky fishing around there is excellent. I caught them of piers and the Fox river. What about steelhead/lake run browns?
@FlyFishDan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dale - Seattle area really is pretty great for outdoors activities for sure, especially fishing. I do have a recent love affair with the sculpzilla - super effective pretty much everywhere! My new confidence fly for sure.

If its the river I think it is, I went for a walk/hike near the dam and saw several fly anglers. I'll have to grab my gear and go up there before it closes for the year.

One of my biggest fly rod steelhead ever came behind a sunken shopping cart on an urban creek in the roughly Vancouver washington area. Tons of debris and straight up litter in this very neglected super urban stream. Nobody fishes it. Hell you may need to be armed to fish it as its pretty dangerous there. ......but it gets summer and winter steelhead and has a population of rainbows and cuttthroat. Steelhead was 39 inches and 21 lbs. Unforgettable fish!!!!!

Simple equation, bugs follow nutrients, fish follow bugs. I still wouldn't eat any fish that I caught there.

Surprisingly - though a ton of trash on the banks, the system is really healthy. Lots of white fish which usually is a good sign.
