How To Pull The Handle In The Golf Swing (Like The Pros!)

In this video, you'll learn the two most powerful ways to pull the handle in the golf swing, just like the pros!
Join My Online Academy HERE milolinesgolf....
One of the primary differences I see between PGA Tour pros and amateurs on my lesson tee is how they power the golf club out of the top of the swing. Do they muscle it, or do they swing it? This is a key distinction, and has a massive effect on contact, distance, and overall consistency.
In this episode, I will show you the two areas where you should be pulling on the handle or grip of the golf club. But, and this is a big but, it's not the pulling you're likely thinking of! It's not by yanking, firing, throwing, or tensing up...it's through a more systematic, body driven action. I hope you see the benefits of this tip, and if done properly, I know your ball striking will improve and your swing will feel more effortless!

Tow the club around in a arc.....the water skier whip was a great way to explain .......in Hogans book he has a drawing of the old school two handed basketball pass which is the same concept but not really explained all that well...your right arm after impact follows the same arc as Hogan and other great players which can only work with the correct leg and torso movement patterns and letting the arms whip free.....excellent content as always Milo

I started watching your channel a couple weeks ago and I’m finally starting to crush the ball like I’ve always wanted. I was having ok success being more arms driven but distances were poor. I feared this “body rotation” swing for fear I’d ruin my lower back like I had been with a bad swing initially. But following your baseball swing philosophy I started really focusing on the weight to the front leg and using the chest/shoulders and it’s been a beautiful thing. Not to write too long, but you don’t hurt your lower back if you are using the pelvis to turn the spine since it’s the base of the spine. I was turning shoulders first and torquing my lower back against the pelvis. Turning the pelvis is turning the bottom of the spine and doesn’t hurt at all. And then you can really rotate the upper body and feel that power. And like you mention in this video, that lead hand really pulls the club up since it’s connected to the shoulder. Specifically I feel that in the pinky finger pad on lead arm. I don’t focus on it, more just notice it’s happening through the swing. Thanks so much Milo. I “like” every video I watch.

I’ve had good success with this idea. My swing thought is to start my downswing by moving the left shoulder slightly downward (don’t overdo this) and then as I approach the ball I feel my left shoulder moving up. It’s a U shape movement during the downswing with my left shoulder.
@jackwilliamson1929
@jackwilliamson1929 3 ай бұрын
Yeah shoulders are the slowest therefore easiest part to focus on and moving one correctly results in the other moving correctly the lead shoulder usually but for initially grooving the swing to correct over the top focusing on the trail shoulder dropping to start the downswing can be very helpful as it forces the lead shoulder to move up and back.
@MiloLinesGolf
@MiloLinesGolf 3 ай бұрын
Interesting thought there and something we've covered on this channel before. That lead shoulder can be a telling sign of how one is moving their middle and applying pressure on the club. If it works for you, go with it! I do a similar shoulder move during transition where I keep the left shoulder down while moving the right shoulder down and forward (from externally to slightly internally rotated using the rear delt/mid lat. I do this at the same time as the right hip “squeeze the lime” (from another Milo video) and chest lowering move. It creates a slight upper/lower counterbalance movement and puts the hands in a better position in front of the chest for me or I tend to drag the left arm across the chest for the duration of the swing and then it flies off the chest a little too late after impact. I guess I am towing the club with just a bit of a head start from the right shoulder pushing the arm structure.

This makes the most sense to me and Mach3speed always says you want to release the energy out in front of you not at the ball. Inorder to do that I have to feel this move. BUT just like anything I think it comes down to sequence. IF you out pivot your arms they will get stuck and hit blocks. Milo do you do any preshot drills if that starts to happen?

Great video Milo and thanks for posting. I just want to be clear with your waterski analogy. The boat would be your upper center of mass, roughly the sternum, the left arm would be the rope and the club would be the ski and skier. Do I have that right? The chest then is the engine and both the arms and the club are along for the ride completely around the corner but they are gaining speed as the chest is arcing on a tighter circle. No additional force or effort is intentionally applied by the arms or the hands?

There are clips of those, you are correct. These top players also have world class pivots and sequences, unfortunately, unlike many of students I work with every day. In slow motion you can easily see these differences. Feels and reals as we know are not always the same. Do we do anything with our hands to add power or are they just reacting to our hip rotation and we don’t consciously release them? I always love your instruction.

It's somewhat shot dependent. I hit numerous shots during a round where I feel like I'm not releasing at all (like hold off shots). I almost never apply an intentional release prior to impact though. Great stuff, Milo. I need you to comment on something. There's a channel promoting this OTT Miracle Swing stuff - no shallowing - all the top guys come over the top of an inside takeaway he says. Supposedly, the shallowing is hard and completely the wrong way to swing. Plenty of video evidence is provided. I fooled with it and got 10 mph increase in speed at the range but not sure it will hold up in play. Thanks, Milo.
@MiloLinesGolf

@tomdee3981 my preference is that the hands swing ott of their back swing path. As for shallowing I hate the idea of looping the hands under however I like the COM of the club to move from up to under (shallow). Your example of the improper pulling of the hands and arms also exhibited early extension causing your hips to move towards the ball. Very obvious in the slow-mo. Was that intentional or would you say that was caused by the pulling as natural reaction of the body? Swing also looked a little over the top.

Think about setting a cable rack to a very heavy weight with the cable at the top of the frame. If you pull exclusively with your hands and arms you would not be able to move the rack. By using your whole system, that's how you could get the rack to move. In my experience, the hand speed is not exclusive to just hands and arms, but also a byproduct of using the full system as I described in the video. Similar to pitching a ball. The arms are more so sprung. I discuss these points in greater length on my website and help golfers there achieve more dynamic motion through personalized online evaluations. milolinesgolf.com/online-academy/
