Also, I just learned this and see it in your swing. Your lead shoulder path from address to the backswing top position goes down, then as you transition into the downswing your lead shoulder goes down even further 7:11. It does not go back up until just before impact as it seems your lead leg posts and forces it up.. That is so important for me to que on and deliver power in the swing. I notice David does not do that like you. I also know you swing faster than him. I think this is a key move in the modern swing with your unweighting and keeping your hips back deeper in the imaginary wall.

Great analysis, Milo. I've always felt that David Duval just lets it all go. However, I must say I noticed that he keeps his head level the same throughout the swing and his hands are way higher at impact than it is at address. Most golf coaches I've seen on KZbin are against such lifting of the hands at impact. By the way, I tried that David/Annika release of the head, and I must admit it feels really really weird. It's like an uneasy feeling making you think that you are going to miss the ball altogether.

Having done some hardwork myself and swing change process, i found your channel & Elite golf school channel where i found similar thoughts. Strong grip, rotating hard through impact which produces straight or slight fade shot which i have found to be very repeatable and reliable.

I was a natural slicer and I analyzed the swings of about 80 golfers to find the best way to adapt. David Duval's swing was identical to what I was doing. Given that during my swing my hand is completely on top, I understood that I needed to exaggerate the closing of my club since my arms pass before the clubface. Now I can generate even more speed and my ball goes straight with a slight fade. I gained more than 40 yards overall, it's crazy.

Note David Duvalls swing @5:50. His right back pocket indicates how much his pelvis has rotated at impact. A VERY POWERFUL ATHLETIC POSITION. However such an athletic position , places considerable forces on the spine and can lead to back injuries when done over thousands of repetitions . Such rotation REQUIRES both natural ability and a serious conditioning program to avoid injury. The vast majority of golfers when trying to increase rotation do so from both the lumbar (lower) and thoracic(middle )spines with many eventually developing lower back problems . Unfortunately David was of one who developed lumbar spine problems , which started his fall from the top. I would argue that it is a mistake for all golfers , except those in their 20’s or younger to try emulate such extreme rotation unless they are also going to spend hours each week on maintaining a very high level of core and spine conditioning .
@MiloLinesGolf5 ай бұрын
I won’t argue but in my view rotation alone is almost never the issue. Hitters in baseball rotate more and side bend just as much as golfers and I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a back injury from swinging a baseball bat. It’s the lateral movement of the pelvis that pushes the lumbar spine into extension that makes one vulnerable to lumbar injury. Couple a big lateral move with loads of rotation and you have a recipe for injury.

As someone who has been obsessed with understanding the release for 20 years I agree that the "scoop" in his release is only playable because of his amount of hip rotation! Otherwise his release would be early and a true scoop.

Hello Milo love your teaching! So the way I'm understanding is now he describes in some other videos about this right hand throw release or he feels like he's throwing the club toward the ball and he talks about it seems like casting but it's not etc. The way I'm understanding it is when I watch the video of his swing his Trail risk definitely stays extended throughout the swing so it sounds like we're on the same page is that he turns so fast that for him specifically needs to feel like he's sort of throwing the club even though he's not because his wrist is staying extended so obviously he's not throwing the club out but it's just that he turned so fast and so violent that that feeling helps him sink up? Would you say that's a good assessment? So in other words if you have a student that doesn't turn very fast they may need to feel like they keep their risk extended or sort of hold the angle for lack of a better phrase. But if somebody does turn really fast then you might want to find a different feel for them in sort of a throwing sensation or something slightly different to match up with their turn correct?
@MiloLinesGolf4 ай бұрын
More or less a good assessment. This was a feeling Jim Hardy gave him after his career was finished so I doubt he really had many thoughts about how to release because when done right physics creates it and times it you really can’t help it go faster only disturb the timing.
@outerstar64inthecosmos2 ай бұрын
Have always admired DD's swing. Because this swing is so rotational , can you confirm that straightening of the left leg on almost all FULL shots is occuring? Does appear you are finishing with the left leg in an almost straight up and down orientation with the extreme rotation of the body core and torso resulting in the majority of your weight ending up in your left heel? Am I misunderstanding what I think I am seeing? Please Advise. This is similar to what I think I see in Fred Couples swing as well......who is also known for flushing the crud out of the ball time after time. Thank you for the video Sir. . jdp

Milo in that same video with Charlie Rymer, David talks about throwing the club away or behind him in the downswing on plane or above plane. It was a feeling and not real or maybe it was. What is your feeling in the downswing.? Are you throwing the club away from the target right away on plane or above the plane or at least feel like that while turning? When is that considered casting?
@todddavis54335 ай бұрын
If you throw the club from behind you like David says the club will automatically return on plane. Watch the slow mo replay at the end and you can see David on plane throughout the swing. Milo takes it back a little more steep and then shallows the shaft during the downswing to get back on plane which to me is more of a manipulative move and harder to repeat. Like Jack Nicklaus said "you can never release the club too early"

Milo I owe you an apology. For ages I could not work out how you were not holding lag with no proper release. Your videos seemed to go down a different path to say Mike Malaska. Finally last week the penny dropped. The baseball player hits out in front, it's the pivot that creates the impact position. Wow - what a difference. I am 65, 23 handicap, sub 90 mph clubhead. Thanks to you I now hit dead straight, fade is gone, ball flight a lot lower, getting about 220 yards total. Stats tell me that's the average driving distance for a 12 handicapper my age. Plus my home course is narrow and a lot of dog legs so I don't need any more distance. Irons likewise much straighter and plenty of distance. THANK YOU - I feel I am on the cusp of of a big drop in handicap due to your thoughts.

If you just use your left hand (right handers) to make a swing, whatever the grip you use is the NATURAL grip ; but to the golf world, it will be very “strong”. The golf world “natural” grip will require you to bend your left wrist at the top, which is terrible, injury prone.

Hi Milo enjoyed your analysis of David Duval swing and agree what you are saying from your point of view as a former baseball player. However comparing David Duval scapular to yours; I think the reasons he exited left better then you was that he used the directional movements of his scapula bone better then you do with your scapula. What? Under the directional powers of his scapula we see him swinging his golf club around his body with his arms, hands and rolling chest while he effectively maintained his golf posture until the end of his swing. Don’t we? His pelvis, hip, knees, and feet all responding naturally under the direction of his scapula. No way! You say Watch his trail side scapula gliding two inches toward his spine for his backswing immediately followed by his lead side scapula gliding about four inches towards his spine for his down swing to his swing’s final conclusion . He and all of us are able to do this because muscles have no sense of direction they can only pull under the direction our brain is telling our bones and joints were to move inside our body So you see the scapula is the primary steerer of the golf swing. It works in conjunction with double pendulum golf swing which deserves another explanation since few golf instructors have ever gotten it right and easy to understand. Cheers 🥂👍😊
