My parents kept a STAR 9mm under the counter at their sandwich shop. Thankfully it was never needed. After their passing my sister inherited it. Her house was flooded with 4ft of water during HARVEY. So was the gun. After several weeks and after cleanup she asked me to check it out. I must say it was an impressive firearm. Heavy, accurate and solid as steel can be. Really like that pistol.

The FEG 9×18 and .380ACP have been some of the best handguns I have used. They are so accurate that I use them both for target practice and hunting small game. My daughter took her first deer with the 9×18 at 20 yards with a head shot using the Hornaday 95gr flexlock round. She was 8 years old. Now all she likes is hunting with a handgun with me. Plus the rabbit and squirrel hunting makes competition shooting easier.

That was a great video! I wish I could take you back to the early '90s gun shows. I bought new Russian SKS rifles for $159.00, Chinese short and long barreled for $99.00-119.00, and crates and crates of new Makarov pistols of all types, Tokarevs, Helwans, etc. If it was made in the Soviet Bloc, you could buy it! Likewise, ammo was very cheap, but there was a ton of corrosive ammo out there that you had to be careful of. I once accidentally bought some corrosive 9X18. I wish I had bought more guns than I did. My 1949 Russian SKS has yet to be fired, and it's beautiful. All machined trigger group, etc. A lot of people get the pp thing wrong. To my understanding, the PP was the standard long barrel and long magazine. PPk is the short barreled w/longer magazine, and the PPk's was the short barreled, short magazine model best suited for pocket carry. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the long mag held 8rnds and the short one held 6, but I could be wrong. Anyway, great Job! I'm looking forward to more of your videos. I wouldn't mind having the #1 Steyr pistol. I'm a real Steyr fan, but have never seen one to my knowledge.

Yes, I started collecting milsurp pistols and rifles because I like history, and I liked to shoot. U.S. surplus costs a ton in comparison to the Russian and Soviet designed weapons (Because the Russians made MILLIONS of them). I recall buying a Mosin Nagant 91/30 rifle with 1,200 rounds of ammo for about $99.00

The PP was the original Walther SA/DA police pistol introduced in 1929. The PPK was the short barrel/short grip version introduced as a detective pistol. The short PPK grip made the gun too small to be imported under regulations of the the 1968 US gun control act. So the grip was enlarged to the PP version, creating the US-legal short-barrel/long grip PPKs. I have a later German import PPKs from the late '70s in .380. Afterwards, when Wather production was started in the US, the PPK became available here again.

In the early 90s I bought a Chinese sks for 85$ new it came with an oil can, and ammo belt, only thing was you needed to clean the packing grease out of the barrel before shooting,lol, mine was flawless I used it deer hunting, bought a 30rnd mag and folding stock for it later lol, I miss it they go for over 300$ now a lots changed since the 90s

Ah! A nice trip down memory lane. In addition to the dirt cheap SKS and Mosin Nagant rifles that followed me home from every gun show, I picked up a surplus new PA-63 for a $100. I didn't know anything about it, but I wasn't going to leave it there at that price. I do have two major regrets. A dealer was selling a huge stack of Romanian AKs for $200 each. I decided to walk around the show first to see if there was anything else I wanted instead. When I got back to the dealer he said, "I just sold the last one." I believe the next day was the day the prices on all AKs skyrocketed because I never saw another one at that price ever again. My other regret was from a time when a buddy had a Russian SKS he brought with us to a gun show to sell. I'm not sure if he was the idiot for selling it for $100, or if I was the idiot for not being the one to buy it.

Using a US CPI calculator (which isn't perfect but gives an idea), the $5 box of ammo is $41 in today's dollars and the gun is $165 today. Not too wildly out of the ballpark.

I actually now have 3 of your list. P64 - beautiful little pistol. New Wolff springs and Polish Iron grips to make a whole lot nicer. Had to buy a Beretta 81 to go with a 92s and a 92FS. Sexy little collection. Gotta agree, the Star BM is the best feeling surplus I've found. Not entirely, but very much like a commander sized 1911. Shoots like a dream. Fell victim to the dry fire firing pin issue. Snapped right in half. Bought a new production pin from Jack First. I have to believe modern metallurgy will hold up better than the original. To your last comment, I bought all 3 from local businesses. They all cost about $30 more than Classic or JG. Easily offsets shipping and transfer fees. Essentially the same cost, got to handle, buy on the spot and puts money in the pockets of good guys.

Good video, brother! My Serbian Tokarev 7.62x25 is why I upgraded my armor to steel! I have collected several AKs, finally settled on an RPK-47 and a Polish underfolder Paratrooper AKM. I microfile the rear sights and open them up some, using flat black paint to fix them. My RPK has hit tennis balls on the deck at 350 yards! I wish I could find another new condition one, although break in was a trial until I found Militec-1 Bonding oil, used for machine guns. I love that Beretta pistol, they have been making weps since the 1400s! I have a 90-TWO pistol, wasn't out long, sadly. It is an ice cold tack driver! I have it as a complement piece with my Beretta Carbine. I'm an old school survivalist, disabled vet. Having interchangeable mags, ammo is always good. My carbine carries an OPMOD full color Night Vision scope. It can even record or transmit in real time! I didn't have stuff that good back in SpecOps! Optics Planet is where I got the scope at a steal a few years back, around $600! I will be watching you from now on, brother! Maybe you could do some critiques and info on the various import and domestic AKs?

Except for the Zastava .32, I've acquired all of these surplus pistols over the past few years, most from local dealers or private sales. My favorite surplus 'Tokarev' is the Yugo Zastava M57 for it's longer grip and extra magazine capacity. I also have a Zastava 'TT' M70 in 9mm. Downside with any online buy is the gun you get may not be as nice as the one you expect. Also, the average buyer will need to add shipping, FFL and sales-tax to these online sale prices. That said, based on reviews, I ordered a Beretta 81 from Classic last year. I was very pleased with the condition of the one I received. Plus, I ordered a second, new pistol from them at the same time, and was able to combine shipping & FFL charges. Otherwise, in the past year I've been able to find the M88, CZ70, and AP7.65 locally for at or under $200. I also got a beautiful Polish 'TT-type', which has the original Russian slide serrations, though it cost considerably more than an M57.
@sunbeam8866
@sunbeam8866 4 жыл бұрын
@Weedman Classic still lists the surplus .32 Beretta 81 for $210, a surplus 7.62x25 Zastava M57 for $220, and a new 9mm Zastava M70a for $350. In my state DK firearms has been selling these at local shows for about the same price, or a bit more, so one can inspect the pistol first and avoid the extra $50 or so for shipping and FFL charges.

@sunbeam8866
@sunbeam8866 4 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelMichael-iz1jq I don't understand why some call the Tokarevs ugly. They're modeled after Browning's pre-1911 hammerless pistol designs, which collectors pay big bucks for, especially the 1903 Colt. The Russians just updated it with the 1911's delayed-recoil swinging-link and a modest rounded external hammer. Plus they designed a modular sear & hammer assembly that simply pops out for repair or replacement once the slide is removed. I think the Tokarevs are sleeker and more pocketable (at least in a large coat pocket) compared to the 1911 with it's protruding beaver-tail and hammer-spur. Certainly more graceful than today's chunky, blocky, tactical plastic pistols. Plus the Tokarevs high-velocity ammo, which some compare to 357 magnum.

Dont buy very many guns online or from classic,j&g,aim,ect. Either. My go to gun store is very good to me and pretty good about letting me know what they get in either on trade or if the distributor is offering something I want. He just sends me a pic or a snap and gives me a price. We really dont even barter much anymore. I've gotten almost all of my surplus firearms from him and same or less than online. Like you say the shipping and transfer fees are 25% of the price.

Just found the channel. I LOVE the P64. It's a great concealed carry defensive firearm. No one will ever use it unless absolutely necessary and every other option has failed. How can I say this with such confidence? I shoot as many guns as I can, and I've fired exactly one mag out of the P64. The fixed barrel transfers force through the frame directly to the shooter's hand; energy is not transformed into work as in Browning/Glock/Luger/Mauser designs. The upside is amazing accuracy. The downside is ouch!

Great video... you featured three firearms I'm lucky to own: I have two Radom P-64s, one with the round hammer, the other with triangular hammer, a Yugo M57, and a Romanian TT33. The P-64s were my EDC for a long time, until the current generation of lighter weight 9mm offerings (e.g., Ruger LC9s, and Sig P365). My M57 is a sweet, sweet shooter (really accurate!) and I really like that 7.62x25mm Tok caliber; the TT33 has a rougher trigger, and a little less capacity than the M57, but still a very nice, sturdy handgun, especially for the money! On the DA trigger pull of the P64... I replaced the OEM hammer spring with Wolff 18# hammer springs, and got much better trigger action. Not hard to do... maybe 10-15 minutes, tops.

I like the military surplus pistols! They get discounted based on their price but if you look a little closer or under a different light. Those very same guns if they were manufactured today in the US they would be more than $600. I say that because the frame is all machined and not made of polymer. Machining always adds significant price.

Really cool video. I have not looked through the archives but a video like this dedicated to Revolvers "Wheel Guns" under 400.oo would be worth watching for sure. The surplus market has become rather soiled for lack of a better term. Meaning sellers have pushed prices very high on many of the very common rifles out there. I know this was a while ago but I remember when you could get a Mosin Nagant for 49.oo and an SKS for 79.oo. you could get an entire crate of Mosins for well under 1000.oo lol..... I remember about 15 years ago I got a nice Star model BM in 9x19 with two mags and a cleaning rod in the original box for $150 at a gun show. It's a 1911 style pistol that fits in most Commander size holsters. Only problem with it was that the mainspring was weak and wouldn't detonate the primers sometimes. Also it would only cycle 115 gr. FMJ. Anything else would jam up. Still a nice gun if I had replaced the mainspring (hammer spring), especially for the price.

For sure. Bought 4 of them bout a year ago when they sent a bunch over,$170 only one mag tho. Two shoot anything,one is a bit finicky. Haven't shot the other. Accuracy is pretty decent. Mine came in a little green box and had an owner's manual in Spanish along with the cleaning rod.

@@2aEdu I have 2 actual Hi Powers, both T series. One Parkerized that was in the $400 range, which has been done full on CQB style with an original, Browning accessory, grip mounted top rail that allows full use of the iron sights and since it's not slide mounted, there is no recoil issue for the Halosun micro red dot sight and I added the under barrel rail to add a light (or laser). With the light, iron and red dot sights, this is great from point blank to beyond 100yrds. I have a pretty, blued pistol that's the "collector" grade, valued $1,300 @ time of sale which I got for $800. It has had major trigger work, mag disconnect removed and a wide trigger shoe added. It's the best, crisper, lightest trigger I've found, really art work. The Hi Power is an amazing (and my preferred) shooting weapon when properly worked. And I'm a 1911 guy. My next quest us a good FEG surplus and a new Turkish Hi Power which are every bit the quality of the old T series when the tooling was still great. (I'm avoiding the AKs, I don't need another $$ suck... lol)

I have the Romanian TT33. The bluing was great... but imperfectly re-applied at the arsenal before sale in the US. I had to re-blue one side of the slide due to corrosion. I also had to replace the extractor and extractor spring due to weak extraction. Zastava makes brand new TT33's. IMHO, it's worth the difference in price to buy a new one rather than roll the dice with the Romanian surplus models.

I have 2 of the Romanian M57 with the 9 mm conversion Barrel. So now I have one gun in 2 calibers. I also have a Polish tt-33 with the 9 mm conversion Barrel. I absolutely love them and we'll probably never sell them! The ones that I have have been incredibly reliable and accurate with only a few malfunctions over the years that were solved with lube. They are accurate and fun to shoot especially if you are recoil sensitive or have hand and wrist problems like I do. The tt-33 8-round magazines are still fairly reasonably priced and are not hard to come by at the moment. The Romanian M57 9 round magazines on the other hand are more on the expensive side and are harder to come by. The Romanian M57 9 round magazine easily fits into the tt-33 series and works flawlessly. The tt-33 8-round magazines will not run in an M57.

Yo the star super B is a good pistol as I used to own one. A sexy lady she was. But just a heads up, she definitely is not as reliable as the other models. Dont get me wrong, its quality made. But that's more of the fact that the Super B is originally chambered in 9mm Largo. Now if you find the later models, it will be engraved just normal 9mm. But even then, Star didn't actually build the pistols accustomed to 9mm just by looking at the mags itself. Hence why I got so many malfunctions with double feed or failure to feed. Its a shame. Now if this is just for collectors firearm with the semi occasional shooting then go for it. But for home defense or conceal carry...not good. The Star BM is a MUCH better gun for that utility. I've owned the BM too trust me lol. But that's just my two cents!

Your #10 - Zastava M88a is still a current production pistol. They are available with a C&R license due to the fact that it uses a lot of the same design as the M57 Tokarov, but in 9*19mm rather than 7.62*25mm. It was used for a short time with the Yugoslavian military but was replaced by the Cz 99 which has a larger magazine capacity. I was surprised that the CZ-82 did not make your list, but agree that most of them are gone from the easier to find web sites. Not sure what they were going for at the end of availability, but I got mine for $179.00 from J&G a while back. 9mm Mak and a simple blow back recoil system, it is unique in that its has NO RIFLING in the barrel, using an odd barrel cut process that produces a polygonal bore that imparts the stabilizing spin to the projectile while reducing projectile deformity and reducing barrel friction.

Neither the M88 or M88a are C&R eligible. I have a C&R and have bought three M88as (basically a shortened M70A) and three or four M70as from different sellers. Never sold as a C&R by a dealer. If someone sells one as a C&R they doing so illegally. First made in 1988, the M88 won't be C&R eligible until 2038. Zastava is now selling the M88a in the US directly, bypassing distributors, MSRP $349. I was finally able to get parts for my M88a that has been a paperweight for two years, from Zastava USA. US distributors could only get a limited range of parts for them, if they could get parts at all. I paid $200 or less for all of my M88as and M70as. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zastava_M88 The fact that the CZ82 is C&R eligible was a quirk, based on an unusual set of circumstances. I have three of them. The CZ82 is the best deal for C&R holders who are lefties, since it is ambidextrous. I have four P64s and keep one on my bedside table. I really like them. Love the loaded round indicator. Polish Irons grips make them very manageable. Not drop safe, so carrying with the safety off is risky. Not seen one under $200 for quite a while.

1/2x28 9mm thread. If it is marked that it works for glock 9mm it is the same size. You can use a compensator, or thread protector, or muzzle break.
