I did not expect it to be such a preventable accident. I'm shocked a professional boat operator would make such a terrible mistake.

Just want you to know that I have thought about your family a lot. Your story touched hearts of many including mine. I wish you didn’t have to go through life like this. It’s not fair. Please know that you are heard and somewhere in the world there are people thinking about you and your family. I too hope that something will be done. The prime minister did talk to the country about the accident when it happened but indeed it all went silent after a while. The changes you are asking for are things that should be do-able, they are not impossible things and it’s also for the safety of everyone. It should just be done. Unfortunately that is not the only place where safety is needed. The whole water-sports industry in Aruba needs changes. There is no control whatsoever. Parachutes ropes have snapped in the past hurting tourists. Before it got so far, there was never any control to see if it needed to be replaced. When something like that happens, the only change we see, is f.e. “new ropes”. Nothing is ever done on safety and prevention. There is a guy that owns a kayak company. He has no swimming certificate and especially not a “life-saving” one. Yes he learned how to swim by being in the ocean but it’s not the same when you truly have to save people. Also he works alone with groups, you can’t save everyone in a group if there is an emergency. There needs to be more people when the group is bigger. There are also boats that takes tourist to islands without (proper) life-vests. That is also not done. These are just a few but there are so many more things that happens where there is no control for safety. It’s sad that they handle people’s life like it’s nothing. They only care about the money and hope for the best. There really should be more changes. In the end it’s for the best

It is our own responsibility to keep our selves safe. This is a big problem with people today. They always think there is someone to blame other than themselves, and they always think something has to be done any time something tragic happens. Accidents will happen when you get in an inflatable tube being pulled behind a boat. Maybe these parents shouldn’t have had their 13 year old daughter on something that is really meant for adults.
