Thanks for the review Tim!! Honestly, somewhat disappointed in the Gen4 impact and drill. Seems like DeWalt's updates have been more significant lately compared to some of their previous models. (But they had more catching up to do on some tools). Would love to have seen a 25% increase in performance over Gen3, but it's possible Milwaukee was already pushing the boundaries based on size of tool and motor. We get a small torque increase, but the auto stop/anti rotation feature and the mechanical clutch are the highlights.
@ZeGermanHam2 жыл бұрын
I agree that the Gen-4 2904 doesn't seem like much of an upgrade over the Gen-3 2903, but let me raise this question: Is there a limit to how much power you actually need in a tool like this? I'd argue that the power gain from 1200 in-lbs to 1400 in-lbs is entirely adequate. But I'm somewhat disappointed that the tool did not get any smaller and the auto-stop feature did not even work in this video and twisted Tim's arm quite a lot at 9:10.

They are powerful enough as it is. We run the old Makita, that I think was the first drill with over 1000 in/lbs, Metabo's 36v and the gen 3 M18's. I can't say I can actually tell the difference between any of them in real world scenarios even with 6in hole saws, which to be honest are insanely dangerous on a non right angle drill anyways. The Gen. 3 impact we rarely use because it breaks bits, bit holder's, etc. It's legitimately more powerful than 1/4in can handle unless you run it on speed 2.

Hello, After comparing torque specs of Milwaukee drills and others, I purchased a 2904 to replace a first generation M18 hammer drill that I purchased when Milwaukee introduced the M18 line about 10 years ago. After a week of destroying Irwin auger bits drilling hard southern yellow pine to accomodate 3/4 conduit in old construction, hitting an occasional 16p nail, I woke up several nights in pain from a sudden case of carpal tunnel. This is the first case of carpal tunnel I have ever had in my life and it got bad. Fortunately, It eventually went away completely after putting the drill down. The kickback worked but my original first generation M18 drill also had this feature, just not quite as sensitive. I prefer my M18 over my corded drill because of the kickback prevention. Also, when using this drill, my sound alarm (alert) goes off frequently at 106 DB indicating I should be wearing hearing protection if exposed to more than a few minutes while using this drill. My 2904 is a screamer by comparison to the original. Finally, I noticed this model goes through my set of M18 batteries at least twice as fast, requiring dual charging. Feedback on your video: IMHO, there is WAY too much babble with no useful info. Playback x 4. I would respectfully suggest breviety and follow a Myth Busters or Consumer Reports style demo that compares drill use through a variety of materials of different densities (not just soft pine) to include hard wood (pallet oak), 3400 psi aged concrete and 1/8" mild steel. How about mixing a bucket of mastic on slow speed? It would be great to find someone with a technical background with some equipment to measure important items, like noise, power consumption (battery life), kickback and vibration.
