Our first look at these ‪@MilwaukeeTool‬ Gen 4 Hammer Drill (2904) and Impact Drivers (2953) were at the PIPELINE event just a month ago. We finally received the tool in hand and we pushed them straight into testing. This video sticks to testing the Gen 4 Milwaukee 2953 M18 FUEL 1/4" hex impact driver, but don't miss the Hammer Drill/Driver review as well. This impact driver keeps them in the driver's seat in the performance arena. We broke free some really tight fasteners. The Tri-LED design is also a great addition. These should start hitting the store shelves in August 2022.

Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Two words "plenty of Torque" kzbin.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv well I guess that's three. Nice upgrade from current setup. Has belt clips, I don't think I will be using those. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.

It's important to point out that the tightening torque does not equal to loosening torque. I forgot where I read it, but I remember reading somewhere that it takes roughly 70% to 75% of the tightening torque to loosen a bolt. That means if a bolt was tightened to 550 ft-lbs, then it would take only about 390 ft-lbs to loosen that bolt.

The reason we test with 5.0 batteries is because that's the battery that you receive when you purchase the kit. How much power do you want from a 1/4" hex drive? Sure, we can test with the 6.0 and 12.0, but what's the real world value? Thanks for watching and commenting.
@seventeenseventysix4817
@seventeenseventysix4817 Жыл бұрын
@@Shoptoolreviews Real world value is that many of us use 3ah HO batteries but i use 6.0 HO batteries on nearly everything. In the eletrical trade we almost all use the 6 and 8 in all our tools. These tests with 5.0s are fine for a starter, but real world FUEL tools are meant to tap into the extra output. The 3.0 ho and 5.0 xc are nearly identical in output.

I use the gen 3 and 4 everyday installing ductwork and setting commercial HVAC. These drive modes are 100% useless and obnoxious. Not only do they have a mind of their own and randomly change (not tool specific either) but the anti-strip mode gives you No power to get your self tapper in. You can strip a #10 screw if you have no throttle control on 3 or your going in thin sheet metal. This is the only time i might set it on speed 2. I settled on a gen 3 fuel this black friday as the drill & impact were $120 cheaper than a gen 4 @ $400. The deal was good for a gen 4 as you got a free tool but unfortunately none of the tools were what i wanted as of now. Im taking my $120 and applying it towards a circular saw.

@Shoptoolreviews
@Shoptoolreviews 2 ай бұрын
With an impact driver, you're limited to the power that the 1/4" hex shaft (on the adapter) can take. Also, rarely do all the lug nuts reflect the applied torque 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year after they've been installed. Furthermore, many tire shops just run the lug nuts on with an air powered impact wrench on high, over-torqueing the nuts. Adding to the issue, season changes add corrosion possibilities. All of these things, and more, make it not a good candidate for an impact driver to remove lug nuts. Thanks for watching.

These are nice tools but the lights suck, ot would be nice if they followed Dewalt on that. Also, it would be nice if they made the forward/reverse button on the drill and the speed selection button on the impact a little stiffer and not so easy to bump and change settings

I've had both this and the Dewalt DCF850 and DCF923. The 2953-20 had the best most natural color for the LED lights. What didn't you like about them?

A nut that is 1 inch and at 400 "inch pounds" will only require a tool with 200 inch pounds to break it free, because the diameter is 50% a true inch from the center of the torque. Anyways, cool, but not what you guys think it is.

What’s this rated at, 2,000 inch pounds? So about 166 lbf? How is it capable of breaking loose tighter fasteners than the M12 stubby which is rated at 250 lbf (though Tim has broken 400 lbf with the stubby)? Anyone know what’s up with that?
@histguy101
@histguy101 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's not possible. It can do over 200 ft lbs loosening, though. It potentially could remove something like an axle nut if it's not all corroded. 600 ft lbs would break any 3/8" hex adapter long before it reached those kind of numbers.

I have the gen4 in this review. The tool is awsome but it would be nice if milwaukee would make batteries that wouldn't fail after a few uses!😡

@@mike_t_007 3 of my 4 m18 12ah batteries failed before 30 charge cycles. This was at the 1 year mark and milwaukee would not warranty without the receipts as they were 3.5 years old. Home depot sold me some really old batteries.

@unclefester4626 😮 wow sorry to hear about this. So even though the batteries are under warranty, they're still.not honoring them?

@@mike_t_007 nope. Somehow home depot had several batteries in their warehouse that were over 2 years old. I buy them and lost track of the receipts. They fail at the 1 year mark for me. That makes them 3 1/2 years old by the serial number. See thats what people just don't realize is when you buy the higher priced tools they don't move off the shelf as fast and wind up being older than you think. In the case of my batteries i suspect they got lost somewhere and found and just thrown on the shelf. The milwaukee rep said home depot is supposed to return them after 1 year if they dont sell. They'll get replacements for the old ones. Well....i doubt the average warehouse worker even knows that or even gives a shyte either.

Why buy an impactvwrench just for lug nuts if this can remove them easily. Doesn't make financial sense.
@Shoptoolreviews
@Shoptoolreviews Жыл бұрын
There's a lot more going on than what it looks. These nuts/bolts are greased each time we test, so the threads are in near-perfect condition. There is no corrosion and there are no imperfections. Lug nuts on wheels are quite the opposite. To keep this brief, I'll try to explain differently. Swing a 12 oz. ball peen hammer and a 12 lb. sledge hammer. They may both deliver 5,000 psi of force. The ball peen does this over the size of a pencil eraser, and the sledge hammer over the size of a soda can. The sledge hammer will get more work done. The impact mechanism on the impact wrench is much heavier and larger than that of an impact driver. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d520ZIp-e9Gdq5o

@@Shoptoolreviews Curious as to if you think the same with regards to this impact driver and the compact impact wrench? Is the impact mechanism larger on the wrench? They seem the same size from the outside. I use the compact for lug nuts, although probably not ideal. Never bothered with an impact driver but this video did surprise me, still probably wouldn’t use it

What about removing lug nuts on your automobile?
@Shoptoolreviews
@Shoptoolreviews 6 ай бұрын
It will remove lug nuts if they've been torqued correctly and they don't have any corrosion; however, we do not recommend using an impact driver to remove lug nuts. It's just not designed for this purpose. Thanks for watching.
