Thanks for your vid. Have been running the old 4amp/h battery's over the past 10 years. Found them to be the sweet spot of power versus cost over the time period. Now have x4 5 amp/h (past 2 years). Have noticed a big difference going from 4 to 5 amp/h batteries. My retired father inherited most of the 4 amp/h battery's even though I still run a couple. As I am looking to purchase high power devices (Chainsaw/Hammer drill Vac system etc) I know I has to start looking at the batteries/capacities/run times etc, hence why watching this vid. See that there has been huge changes in the tech of the batteries over the past 3-4 years....But so has the cost increased, incredibly. Battery pricing here in Melbourne Aussie (Sydney tools), M18 standard 4amp/h $178.20, 5 amp/h $218.00, High output 6 amp/h $227.70, 8amp/h $278.30, 12amp/h $299, Forge 6amp/h $279.00, 8amp/h $349.00, 12 amp/h $399.00. Currently I cannot justify the costs to upgrade to Forge batteries. Am yet to test the high output versus the standard 5amp/h battery's. Will do so when I have purchased a high output skin (Chainsaw or another device). Am curious about other ppl's experience/feedback.

Glad you liked it! The 5ah is still my go to when the HO isn't needed (lights, drills, impact wrenches, etc). Its smaller and has good power for most small jobs. Where I use my HO and Forge are with my outdoor trimmer, blower, chainsaw, and circular saws. With that said, I do agree the prices of the batteries are getting up there. Here in the US they aren't as high where you live, but they still are expensive. If looking to get into the HO lineup, the 6ah HO is the sweet spot for power/price/dependability. The 8ah HO has a lot higher failure rate than the 6ah HO and in my opinion outside of using the 12ah on a miter saw its too big. If you need the power the 12ah produces, then the 6ah Forge is the one I would get as it's the same power and a lot smaller. Typically, here in the US around the holidays there are some good deals and ever since the Forge came out the 6ah HO has been on sale. Im sure here in another month or two Milwaukee will be including the free batteries so hopefully your able to get one for free.

How do the HO 6.0’s compare to the Forge 6.0 in a blower? Will the Forge have a longer runtime or just more power?
@TeamDIYNow
@TeamDIYNow 2 ай бұрын
When using Milwaukee's single battery blower...the noticeable difference between the HO 6.0 and Forge 6.0 is marginal. The runtime is going to be the same, however the Forge battery will give you 100%-0 full power. Some of Milwaukee's other batteries will have some voltage sag as the battery gets down to about 30% which then produces less power.

I think the biggest question here, just like the high outputs, is 6ah vs 8ah forge. The 6ah ho had the more reliable and higher output samsung 30t while the 8ah had the higher capacity 40t. If you needed the extra capacity then the 8 but otherwise the 6 was the better battery. Now its the same question for the 6ah pouch cell or 8ah tabless. Considering theyre the same price due to the high price of pouch cells, is the pouch cell premium worth the capacity reduction?
@TeamDIYNow
@TeamDIYNow Ай бұрын
Yea that is a good question. I'm not sure if we know yet about the longevity as the Forge is fairly new. Over the last few years, I agree we learned that the 6 HO had a lot less failures than the 8 HO. Because of that I only bought the 6 HO over the years because what I heard about the 8s failing more often.

Home depot has the XC8.0 batteries ( right now for $140 ea. ($279 for a 2 pack). An XC8.0 for $140 vs. a Forge 6.0 for $199. Now which battery would you go with? Also, if you only have a standard charger or the Rapid Charger (not the new dual bay high speed one) aren't you losing the fast charging benefits as well?
@TeamDIYNow
@TeamDIYNow 10 ай бұрын
I typically buy all my batteries either on sale or in a kit. Alot of times for just a little more you can get a tool you might need plus the batteries making the overall cost of the battery less. I'm always looking for a sale, so personally not unless you're looking for max output the HO batteries are a good option as well. Here is a link to the HO6.0 for roughly $90 (amzn.to/3TlQwS0) ...just be careful on who the sold by is. I personally have bought from the seller listed as JBTools and shipped by Amazon. In regard to the charger, you are correct you won't get the added benefit of the fast charge time unless you have the supercharger. The standard chargers are ok, and the supercharger is still a little pricey in my opinion. Personally, the rapid charger is my favorite and the one I have used for many years. Hope this helps.

@TeamDIYNow seems JBTools is more trustworthy than other random sellers. Did you receive items from them in original packages? Were they brand new? @@Zpiet820 Yes I ordered a Dewalt Powerstack 1.7 battery last year and a few months ago an OTC J tool for locking a steering wheel. Both in the factory sealed package. Just make sure the listing you buy is the new one as they also sell used stuff as well. Not saying that is what happened on yours but there could have been mix up when they sent if you did buy the new. Worst case scenario, since most of their stuff is shipped by Amazon if it shows up opened just send it back.

Batteries are just way to expensive. I am pretty sure Milwaukee makes these batteries dirt cheap. Just like Snap On, you are paying for the name. But as it stands there is no Milwaukee aftermarket battery on the market that is reliable in my opinion.

The 5.0's are great all-around batteries for general use applications where you don't need the max power (drills, impacts, shop vac, tire inflator, etc). The HO 6.0 is also a great battery that personally I only use while using a circular saw, sawzall, and string trimmer. I recently did a circular saw video comparing the 5.0, HO 6.0, and Forge battery to give you an idea of the power difference on a more demanding application: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6HQoHWAbraJZqc. I would say, if you don't need the extra power 3 batteries are better than 2. With that said, you cant go wrong with either as the HO 6.0 has its time and place. Hope this helps.

May not be scientifically possible to get the max amps of that 12ah cell packed into a 3.0 cell. Which is what forge is about to my eye. These batteries are for running chop saws, table saws, shop vacs, lawn mowers, etc. Not impact guns, multi tools, jig saws, or small shop vacs. The diy scene should be fine with high output batteries. Most diy'ers dont need the bigger tools to be battery powered as they have readily available outlets to plug in bigger tools. My main question is whether the 8.0 sits in power group 3 or 4 on Milwaukees chart.

@TeamDIYNow I can see this battery making a difference in tools where you want that umph. A skill saw would be my 1st thought. But also a 6" grinder, or a concrete saw. Even a chop saw or table saw if you're cutting 2" maple. I don't have any of those tools battery-powered yet. Though I want a 4 1/2" variable speed with a toggle switch. I would already have it if it wasn't a special order only. I have 2 variable speed Metabo grinders, they are the benchmark for a grinder in my kit. Only time will test that factor. I'm interested in a skill saw, but I have 4. At that point it's more about workflow. Love how I can install 15ga nails in 3 minutes flat with 0 rush.
