Milwaukee packout - handle modification

I’m putting together a tool kit and spare parts box for the RV. I’m too lazy to move tools back and forth, when I need them. I picked up this Milwaukee packout box, but the handle was too tall to fit in the RV storage space. So…..I chopped it down a few inches.

Diehard (punn intended?) Craftsman guy here as well!!!😆 My old stuff is either lost or still in service after 40-years!!! Gotta agree, however, that the new stuff is not as good as the old stuff, and I've been going elsewhere for new/replacement tools. I found a top notch quick removal kit for Packout, that doesn't involve any cutting, just drilling 10 holes (made by NeatTools, $40). Got tired of having to lay it down to get it under the tonneau in the truck (even in a F450), or in the belly of the toy hauler. Flick two tabs, and the handle comes out, put the handle back, flip tabs back, and it's just like stock. Took less than 10-minutes to install. I'm tall, so I was looking for a solution that wouldn't reduce my extended height. That system actually made the handle ~1" taller when extended, so even better for me!

Doing this tomorrow. I was just messing with mine seeing how I’d do it but wasn’t so certain abt cutting it but after seeing you do it I’m definitely doing it. Thanks for sharing

When I first bought mine I bought it home in the car, it would have fit easily in the back seat if they didn't make the handle so high, this is a way nicer mod than making the handle removable and having to take it off every time and store it somewhere, in surprised this hasn't caught on. I'm also surprised Milwaukee didn't make it removable and have a option to buy a shorter handle, they'd sell a ton of those. I miss having a utility van where this wouldn't have been an issue.

I literally came to KZbin for exactly this reason. 2021 Silverado with a hard tonneau cover. I love this Packout toolbox but the handle is just too tall. I knew there had to be a way besides just taking the handle off. I need to be able to pull the box up steps and things like that. If I just take the screws out of the handle I can’t pull on it at all or it will just slide out. Hopefully the end result gets the total height low enough.

When collapsed, the handle height is 21 1/4”. It fits in the bed of my Chevy Colorado with a bed cover.

Not sure why you just didn’t put quick release pins in place of the 2 Phillips head screws were. Then take the complete handle out. Seems like most people are doing that with the tonneau cover problem as did I. 😉😉

Acabaste con una de las cosa buenas que tiene esa caja y es que la altura que trae el mango para tirarla es perfecta las ruedas nunca te rosan los pies al tirarla pero así como la dejaste te rosaran las ruedas con los pies
