That tapping is John Bonham is working a plastic garbage pail in the foyer of Jimmy Page's house. Probably my fave Led song. In the 90s, the newspaper where I worked use to ask visiting celebrities, like rock stars, what book they were reading. Ace Freley with KISS said he was reading Lord of the Rings because he wanted to understand Led Zeppelin better.

This may be my favorite song by Led Zeppelin. I seem to be particularly fond of their early stuff from 1969 to about 1970. This is when they were still very raw and gritty as a Band, just finding out who, and what they were going to be. The first 2 albums (Led Zeppelin I and II) are simply the best music they ever recorded. Thanks

When JPJ plays the melodic bass part, you feel like you are floating in ecstasy. In seconds, he seamlessly shifts into the driving chorus rhythm and that four note climb, and you just want to yell and move to the thunder. That is the magic of this song and the genius of JPJ.

This is one of their most lush songs guitar-wise. An acoustic plays throughout and there are multiple overdubs of more acoustic and electric. The bass line is to die for - it is iconic. If you're a fan of the production, thank producer Jimmy Page and engineer Andy Johns who worked on all the songs from the 4th album.

The production was done by Jimmy Page... all the effects like crossweaving inputs were Jimmy as well. He'd been practicing them for years in studio as London's top session guitarist, but Zep was the first band where he had overall control- carte blanche to try anything he wanted (Sonic Wave Theramin, bottle slide,,,whatever sounded right and good). So you could say Jimmy is a songwriting, production, and guitar genius. And he loved when Jonesy wanted to try something offbeat with the gazillion instruments with which he was adept. And clearly Bonzo and Robert were free to do whatever with their drive and charisma... just be good, be right. Peace and be safe, Harri.

Harri, I've seen 95% of your reactions and you are good. You're awareness of the different sounds that go into making a tune like this is rare amongst most reactors. I don't know if you play an instrument ( 40 years of amateur guitar for me) but you break music down and know your shit like you might play. I've only subscribed to 3 other reaction channels. You are now my fourth. I am the canadian Queen nut but Zep and Floyd are 1A and 1B. BTW the grill on your heater/AC/fan on your left under the light looks like the fretboard on a guitar. It's kind of freaky and cool. Cheers.

@@HarriBestReactions, I didn't know you were a vocalist/percussionist. Good on you. I'm not surprised about the vocal thing. I've come to realize that over the years you can tell by somebody's speaking voice if they would be a good singer/vocalist. Go back and look at old interviews with some of the great singers in rock. you can tell by their manner of speaking and the tonal qualities in their normal speaking voice that they would be a good at it. I sense that with you. Cheers again.

Like most bass players in super Bands, John Paul Jones would stand quietly in the back, letting Plant and Page battle for the audience's attention. Same thing with John Entwistle of "The Who". He may be the Best of all of them, and it was the same thing. He sat off in the corner, quietly laying down some of the most wonderful Bass, you can imagine, while Rodger Daltry and Pete Townsend, and Keith Moon, tried to out do each other on stage. The Bass, is really the thing,(along with the drummer) that hold everything together. John Paul Jones, also played the keyboards, mandolin, and a few other instruments for Led Zeppelin. I guess the Bass players will always be underappreciated, and always lose the girl to the lead guitar player, or the lead vocalist/ Front man. Thanks Harri

One thing I love about Zep is that so many of their songs sound otherworldly to me. As if they inhabit a fantasy world. Perhaps it’s because they were a kind of background music playing in my very early childhood with lots of incense, candles and blacklight, but they have a very distinct feel to me.

A great and Really Big Shoo Harri! (Had to plagerize Ed Sullivan there) The reason Led Zepplin could and did thrive in the 'pop' market was because they formed in '68. And by 1970, FM Album-Rock radio was just getting on it's feet! Extendend play bands like Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, The Jeff Beck Group AND of course, Led Zepplin could now dominate the new, preferred airwaves! Move over and get used to more and more, talk and weather AM radio! Not to mention the incredible musical artistry of West Bromwich's, Robert Plant, Surrey's own Jimmy Page, the favoured son of Sidcup, John Paul Jones and that rascal and raconteur from Redditch, John Bonham! Also, great choice with 'Ramble On!' Imagine a live version of say...25 minutes?! Thanks for what you do Harri! Ciao! MLT
