Hey, here from S.A Australia, went on a trip to America with my mum and sister back in April 2011, my sister and I went to Galaxyland for the day, we rode the Mindbender twice. was seriously fun and awesome, it has been ticked off of my bucketlist. Was such an epic day in the theme park and the Water park. On that, would you consider doing a park view of the water park next door, along with the other rides from Galaxyland?

It's interesting - back in around 2012-2013 (I was 12) my brothers and I spent the day at West Ed, and of course we went to Galaxyland and rode Mindbender. Afterwards, when I was telling my dad about it, he mentioned the crash. I was really curious to learn more about it, so I did a bunch of research about it, and then the whole topic of ride incidents just got my attention. I spent the next year and a bit looking into various ride accidents (may rideaccidents.com rest in peace) and eventually, I wanted to get a better grasp on rides in general, which is how I found out about coaster enthusiasts online and eventually got to where I am today as an enthusiast. So basically, the GP never shutting up about the crash is how I became an enthusiast in the first place. I mean, it still doesn't make it any less frustrating when they completely condemn the ride because of the incident though.

too many places close coasters because "oh it's raining" I mean I get a thunderstorm or hail but rain? I rode a custom arrow looper 7 inversions 12 times in the rain it was amazing and way better than dealing with it's stand up replacement or stuff closing cause "oh it's wet" like seriously. @@PDBMH_

The reason for the “accordion” restraint isn’t because of people falling out, it’s to keep riders from leaning down and straining yourself in the intense g segments of the ride. Also, Olympia Looping ALWAYS had these style of restraints for the same reason, sans the bulkier lapbar and seatbelts.
@dolovo_gaming3081
@dolovo_gaming3081 5 жыл бұрын
The lap bar is quite small on the olympia looping , the shoulder restraints are quite annoying since they come down. But that is only noticable if you are in the brake run.
@djavatar68

I think it's also to keep you from putting your hands up during the ride. Those supports are really close to you.

Awesome footage. For such a frequently photographed ride that we’ve all seen pov and off ride footage of, this video made me realize that this thing hauls like crazy. Compare it to most of the other Schwarzkopf loopers and you see it. This thing looks crazy. I’m proud we have one of so few of these compact, fairground style loopers in Canada. Nice review as always

Did you notice the design of the cars? They each have their own independent set of wheels, they do not lean on each other. The trains were originally four cars and they were reduced to 3 cars long when replaced to create space and room in the weight budget for the extra set of wheels on each car as well as the additional safety restraints. Also, in general I find that Americans complain about rollercoasters in Canada as being rough... but nobody in Canada complains. I'm not sure why that happens other than possibly less investment in Canada means we're accustomed to expecting older rougher rides. Consider Wonderland, there are A LOT of rough rollercoaseters there.
@coastaku1954
@coastaku1954 2 жыл бұрын
And a lot of people who's home park is Wonderland thinks our coasters are rough, myself included. Everyone calls Mighty Canadian Minebuster: Spinebuster. Sadly a lot of people think Flight Deck, our SLC, is a good ride... The more people who think that, the more sad I get...

I live in Edmonton and have been to Galaxyland so many times as I used to work there. Most I could ever go on Mindbender in one day was twice and I had to space out the rides. You're totally right about it exhausting you. Mindbender actually used to have just the lap bar before the accident. The only reason why they got added was for PR. Riders feel safer with more restraints even if it's completely unnecessary for actual protection.

Thank you! Finally someone who has given this coaster the praise it deserves. If you are taller like me sitting in the front of the car actually gives you a little more space for your knees. Also front row on the left is the best seat on the forward trains. The back I find to be a little more jerky which makes the restraints affect the ride a bit more. If you do get a chance to ride it backwards the last row on the left is the place to be. I'm not sure why but I actually find that sitting backwards is smoother and the restraints don't affect the experience at all. Great content as always eh. Love the channel keep having fun with it!

My all time favourite roller coaster. Trains are a little tight, but aside from that it's a wicked ride! Also during busy season they put the last car on one train BACKWARDS! That's a wild experience! All in all I think it's a very underrated coaster and truly is a great intense ride!

One thing I like about this ride is that you don't have to pay to go into the amusement park. That walkway through the third loop is literally just one of the mall entrances from the parking lot. You can just head in and buy a ride on the coaster (or check it out close up if you're unsure if you want to go on it or not) then head on your way somewhere else if none of the other rides interest you (for those that don't know the mall also has a large water park, an ice rink, sea lion shows, mini golf, hotel, etc).

My experience was similar to yours, you really do feel physically drained after riding it. You really need at least a few minutes in between rides to recover. I really wish they'd just get some new trains or something with sufficient lap bars and more leg room but I doubt they'd make that big of an investment. It's a great ride, though. Too bad it's all the way in the middle of nowhere.

Gotta say I love Schwarzkopf coasters. It's great so many are still operating, or get sold and just open up somewhere else. It can be a giant model, a standard couple loops couple turns, a bit useage of the terrain...I'd love to ride this beast. I'd probably be the same way as you, I'd love it but not want to ride it probably past 4-5 times. Maybe not just over the intensity but the shoulder restraints I mean if they were normal shoulder restraints. They put like, togo restraints on it. aka something that shouldn't exist. Also another Swchwarzkopf named Mind Bender? Hm, then again, like every wooden coaster used to be jackrabbit and wild cat.

I wish there was a nice Schwarzkopf coaster in new jersey. we had "Laser" at Dorney not too far away but Cedar Fair moronically removed it and replaced it with a garbage vekoma inverted boomerang (I don't mind the normal ones, but the inverts are painful and always broken down) they scrapped. Perhaps they should see if one is for sale somewhere, and, also get to work on maybe a new gen GCI too.

I found Big Apple Coaster smooth and enjoyable. If that makes me a maniac I guess I’m insane

Wow this sounds crazy. How many Gs does I305 pull if this is 5.6?

I prefer OTSR’s with inversion’s just extra safe plus there was a person that was amputated and fell of a coaster in Las Vegas casino

You seeeeeee.... I would LOVE to make these trips all the time, but plane tickets cost, well, money. And I have college classes... like a lot... I'm stuck in fricken Florida, but at least I live near Busch Gardens and down the road from Universal.

How does it compare with Shockwave at SFOT? That ride is intense on the loops but has surprisingly good airtime later in the ride.

wayyyyy better. Honestly I'm not a big fan of Shockwave. Its mediocre imo.

@@CoasterStudios fair enough. I happen to like it. I think I expected it to be weak and then really liked the second half. It's my second favorite at the park after New Texas Giant. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That being said, I can't imagine you'd rank it beneath New Revolution at SFMM.

How much is a ticket for Mindbender? Is there an "unlimited rides" ticket available at Galaxyland?

Another ride that has restraints that... "bend your mind". Also Taylor what is the roughest coaster you've been on, for me it's Viper.

No joke Taylor, before you said the final score for this coaster, I thought you'd give it an 8, so I was only a half point off. 😄

I can say I’ve been on it! Really intense coaster! Bummer that they changed the restraints, probably after I went.

It’s been operating for 36 years and had one accident 35 years ago. It is not an unsafe ride.
