I'm a British Triathlon Coach. I've seen a million swim videos. Been to a million swim courses. This video is by far the best and easiest to follow video for catch and pull. Why? Because it tells us where the hips must be. Thank you Mandy. Amazing easy to follow video

Thank you, Coach Mandy, for explaining that the catch is not formed from the shoulder but from the hip and core rotation. This is news to me. I always used my shoulder strength to form my catch, but I could tell there was a problem with it. Thank you for clarifying this. I will try rotating into it more the next time I'm in the water, hopefully today! :) Thank you for another excellent video!

Hi Coach Mandy, I've watched this a couple of times now. When I first saw the dryland practice I was confused. The opposite to me. When I watched it again and the Ledecky review it made sense. When I'm at the catch with my stroking arm, I'm still rotated down to the bottom of the pool and not rotated the other way until near the finish. This is what threw me. Then I realised that this is because I'm still working on my timing and my recovering arm is still slow to re-enter. Always thought provoking videos! Thanks CM.

Hi Mandy, thanks so much for your time to demonstrate this technique- catching the water. I have been struggling with the catch for 20 something years as I learned to swim by myself. The Catch Series with step by step breakdowns from start to finish and reverse of the demonstration are very clear and eye opening exercises. Your explanation is crisp with tips and pointers for focus on. You really are the perspicuous teacher and coach I have ever seen. I am so grateful I ran across your instruction videos. Perfectly explained thanks, however I have a question, is the rotation from side to side exaggerated while getting to the catch? I mean; in a complete stroke cycle, actually we are getting from our side to the flat position (halfway in the middle before turning to the other side) while catching? And then after the catch we complete our turn to the side with the pull and take the hip out of the way of the hand while finishing. To resume; side to flat for the catch, flat to the other side with the pull..isn't it that way? 🙄🤔🤔 Thanks coach, appreciated 🙏 Ps: I replayed your final swim demo from the front view in slow mo, pls watch it that way

Hey Mandy came across your channel recently. Swam and played polo competitively in HS, old dog just trying to stay in shape these days. Been working on technique recently, what are your thoughts on the Finis elbow fulcrum for high elbow catch muscle memory? Thanks! Jeff
@SWIMVICE
@SWIMVICE 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff! Sorry for the delay. Somehow I didn't see your comment early on. I know you are probably unable to train in the water at this time, but yes the fulcrums are a good tool. Anything that fuses the hand and fore arm together so you don't bend your wrist is very helpful. Those tools do provide feedback so you get a feel of the catch being formed by the entire arm, not just the hand. Hope this helps answer your question. Stay safe out there Jeff! 🙌🙏🏊 Coach Mandy
@bretoneer
@bretoneer 4 жыл бұрын
SWIMVICE thx Mandy for your advice re the fulcrum. I have swam most of my life with a longer deeper pull and have been working on some of the more efficient strokes like high elbow. Got a chance for a few weeks to focus on it before our pool was shut down, probably like most others. Been using swim bands to minimize the gassing I’ll probably take when our pool reopens, and have been intentional in focusing on my arm / elbow position. Thx again for the help, and for your channel. You speak clearly and simply and are a good presenter. Appreciate your coaching. All the best on this Good Friday and happy Easter this Sunday🙏🏽

Oh man, a cold pool is the worst! Especially if you haven’t been able to swim in a long time. Next time you go, warm up before heading to the pool which helps. Keep your head warm with a warm wear cap and have a big parka to quickly cover in and out of the pool. Also, just keep it simple when going back in the water to get used to a new routine. Here is a quick video with some tips when reserving a lane. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoqko6ywoKqKgtk Hope this helps Mike! Best, CM 🏊‍♂️🙌🙏
