Thank you for actually explaining mindfulness meditation. Many videos with similar titles don't actually give an explanation or instruction on what it actually is. Rather, these videos explain mindfulness, but they fail to give actual instruction on the mediation component.

"Zen" is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese character "Chan," which is in turn the Chinese translation from the Indian Sanskrit term "Dhyana," which means meditation. Also called "Thiền" in Vietnam and "Seon" in Korea.

I was able to use the Mindfulness technique to settle my anxiety while having an MRI. I had freaked out in the tunnel-type machine and went to an 'open' MRI, which is not that open, but the Mindfulness helped a great deal.

Thank you 🙏🏼 I’ve been a bit confused as I’ve only ever done guided meditation and I’m broadening my spectrum and including mindfulness meditation meditation, yoga and a few others . This being the one I can’t seem to get clear enough description and details on what makes a successful mindfulness meditation. With that being said I am Grateful for you and the videos you make . Thanks, David, great job, other videos make the huge error of detailing how you should breathe, or how you should sit, and that just drives people/me crazy - am I breathing correctly, etc - instead you did a great job on instructing to just let the breath happen and to observe it, so thank you again, great job.

Iabobo, mindfulness meditation, as it's described here, is just another, and maybe more accessible, name for "shamatha" meditation. Shamatha is an ancient sanskrit word meaning, "calm or peaceful abiding" and is, in essence, what zazen is based on. Google both terms if you want more info.

Can you explain more about judgement and evaluation of thoughts? What is exactly the evaluation of thought?
@thetrashman6813
@thetrashman6813 5 жыл бұрын
This is a little late so you may have already found your own answers to this, but for me it’s the acknowledgement of having a thought without assigning a deeper meaning or judgment to it. For me I found before meditation I was plagued with a flood of either good or bad thoughts, that I would then convince myself were a reflection of myself instead of just thoughts. The truth is, no thoughts are inherently good or bad, they are just thoughts. Random musings and electrical firings of the brain, of which we get to choose what we do with. So I focused my hardest during meditation to notice the thoughts, then let it flow through without any assigning of importance or good or bad. Sooner or later through practice my thoughts don’t seem so heavy, because I am no longer giving them weight. I hope this helped! If anyone has their own experiences or a different interpretation feel free to reply ☺️

I'm having quite a bit of trouble making my back straight. I enjoy mindfulness meditation, but I normally sit with a slouch, and when I try to do otherwise (during my attempts at mindfulness meditation especially) my back starts to pain me. I simply can't get comfortable, and my back is so stiff that I can't breathe in a relaxed way. I know I'm supposed to be in a relaxed position with a straight back, but I cannot get my back to be straight without tensing up. What are my options?

I personally feel that comfort is important if you want to successfully meditate. I sit on a chair with a pillow behind my back and sit up straight.. Either that or lie on the floor. This is the only way I can meditate because if I am in pain then there is no way that I could sit for more than a couple of minutes.

I meditate keeping my concentrating on my breath air coming out of my nostrils .I breath only through nose and keep my mouth fully closed .What I experience is it slows down my heartbeat , I feel weight on my chest and a sense of suffocation. Is it happening cuz i am breathing only through nose which we normally don't do ? How can I make meditation a pleasant experience ?
@bretta7057
@bretta7057 7 жыл бұрын
First off, I would probably talk to your doctor about that. Probably nothing to be alarmed about, but maybe something to look into. In the meantime, breathe through your mouth. I've done this when I've had a bad cold and it was way too difficult/uncomfortable/distracting to breathe through my nose when I meditate.

My back gets easily strained.. why cant we use back support?
@ChanmeditationNet
@ChanmeditationNet 8 жыл бұрын
If you lean on the wall, the wall surface can suck your qi (energy) from your body. And you tend to fall asleep more easily when you have back support. If you sit longer and longer, it's hard but the qi (enery) flow becomes stronger and your back will straighten itself.
@MH-rt9ts
@MH-rt9ts 7 жыл бұрын
Got any peer reviewed scientific evidence of qi? Didn't think so. The answer to his question is YES you can use back support (chairs, walls, whatever). Sitting unsupported might help one focus a bit better due to physical effort, but it is absolutely not necessary.

What do you do when your attention is caught on a feeling or you can't stop thinking?
@Tastytinytofu

When that happens I take a deep breath while counting to 4, hold it for 7 seconds, then breathe out while counting to 8. & repeat that a couple times. Or I count backwards from 80 and that silences a lot of mind chatter. Like he said in the video, watch your breath. I picture it going all the way down to my stomach then back up and out. And my personal favorite way to meditate is 'mantra meditation' you should look into it. Peace :)
