The study by the AHA was terrible. There is no doubt they are connected to large, processed, chemical filled, food companies, and healthy fasting makes for a big problem for these companies. If you are fasting and eating healthy, you are not buying their food... simple as that. I am 54 and two years ago I was almost 270 lbs, I am now 215. I fasted 16/8, some days OMAD, and a few 3 day fasts thrown in. I feel absolutely amazing! At 52 I was ready to accept that I was old. My joints hurt, I took ibuprofen and tums daily, I was a mess. Healthy fasting saved my life, but I did it right. Dr Jason Fung's book was key. I found Mind Pump and have been in the gym 3 days a week since Jan 1st this year. I now fast 7p-7a and eat whole foods only. Thank you Mind Pump. Now I just need to figure out which MAPS to start with.

I can’t wait for the semiglutide update. I’ve stated mine four weeks ago with the intention to not lose weight, but to turn off the constant “food noise” in my head. So far, it’s been super helpful. No more over eating, cravings are gone and I feel so much more relaxed around food. I’m just not hungry, so I prioritize my protein intake and feel satisfied with my 2000 calories a day to maintain (I’m 5’8” 145lb female) this GLP1 has made it easy for me. Game changer for sure.

Amen to that! I love walking! I love Hydromassage. I love working out at the Gym. I am slow & weak compared to many at the Gym. If i compared myself to most people I'd probably feel really insecure & feel shame. I overwalked yesterday 28k steps. But i didnt feel tired. At the Gym i felt tired on bike cuz it was lunch & id already done 21k steps. So i lowered my time on bike from 45-30. Then i was no longer tired. Sometimes you have to listen to your body & not overdo it. Yes i walked lots & landed up in a really low caloric deficit. But i wasnt hungry. Im not going to force myself to eat or do anything.

On the point that Adam is making, that this is a natural progression that you have to go through. For the average person, you have to be disciplined for long enough until you change your mindset about your workouts and goals. So trusting in the process for long enough, would probably be the way for most people to go from, unhealthy to healthy way, of looking at fitness. In my opinion of course.

61 and only just learning the real benefit of resistance training. I'm a typical female and leaned more heavily on cardio with some weights. I've been listening to Mindpump for a few months and initially set my own strength training program following your principles and have now committed to MAPS anabolic. Loving it, I'm definitely leaner, have more energy and I won't mention my sex drive. I have one happy husband. Thanks guys.

being too hard on yourself also leads to being to hard on others. A nice way to put it is "hurt people hurt people" and if you are saying terrible things about yourself to yourself you'll think that way about other people who aren't where you are - you'll either ascribe virtues to fit people that they don't really have or negatives to people who are out of shape, to put a fine point on it, you can get to be more of a jerk. just something i've observed.

It's interesting, when I started training people they will first say it's weird and I realized quickly that the internal shame and perception of what others might think is a limiting factor for a lot of people. It's "weird" to stretch on a job site before working a labor job. It's "weird" to eat healthy, when it's "normal" to eat whatever is served and not discern. Even in their own homes and with friends, they are shamed. I found this way of thinking makes it hard for people to do this alone because they are shamed for doing things to better themselves.

I am all for letting trans people live their best life and leaving them alone like anyone else. That being said, it is an internal issue and externally you are still a different gender. It may not be an issue for "you" but potentially for everyone else. If you are bodily a man, go to the men's locker room and vice versa. I don't think this is too much to ask.

I truly respect the sentiment of coming at changing your lifestyle from a place of self-respect and appreciation, but I sometimes feel like this messaging reads as "hold off on starting your wellness journey until you've addressed the shame and only feel respect and appreciation for the road ahead". Which is clearly silly. For the love of God, start the process! I agree with Adam; for most, the pipeline of shame-to-appreciation is just what's realistic. In a perfect world, we all reach the point of joy that Sal references, but one could also argue that a fitness journey fueled by shame is better than the fitness journey never started.

Shame is also less effective nowadays as many people have less of a sense of personal pride and society celebrates unhealthy habits/laziness. Not saying that all overweight/obese bodies are due to laziness, but many are. Dr. Wayne Norton argues that he used to think obesity was linked to being lazy, but changed his mind once he saw successful, hard working obese people being lazy. I disagree. Laziness comes in many forms. Many fit people are too lazy to put in the work to become successful at business. Some fit people are too lazy to alter their workout when the gym closed, etc. I play a weekly game of ball hockey at work; we run around like crazy chasing a little orange ball. However, when someone shoots the ball into the stands, we are all too lazy to get it, so we grab a new one from our stash and continue running around like we are being chased by a cougar.
