This is the best podcast I’ve seen. I just became a subscriber to Cass, about a month ago. I was just home from the hospital, recovering from surgery, so channel surfing. My house was out of control because I had been having one problem after another, for over three years. As soon as I could, I began cleaning, and purging my closet and bathroom. Then, my pantry, now my kitchen cabinets! Can’t wait to do my laundry room and office! What a weight off my mind!! All this while entertaining my family for Christmas. I’ve learned so many things, like you don’t have to do it all at once, you might throw something away that you’ll wish you hadn’t, and, most important..I got rid of 3 Parathyroid glands!! Who knew I’d feel so much better and have so much more energy! At 80 years old, I’m still learning something new every day! Thank you so much, now I’m going to subscribe to Frugal fit Mom, too!❤

I think I am the luckiest woman in the world...my Mom was raised by Depression and wartime parents ( so I had that example too) and she went though a divorce, but she had always worked so we had an income and she was very upfront with saying that we not always be able to afford the wants, but we will never not have what we need. Part of this was her mantra, it's just stuff, stuff can be replaced...People cannot. I think that alot of the issues society has now are the misalignment of the value of things. I know I drive people crazy sometimes because I have so little attachment to my belongings.

If you struggle to do your laundry, do it daily. I know that sounds backwards but I hate laundry, I hate putting it up. Doing it daily so it’s a much smaller task makes it soooo much easier. I fold it right out of the dryer and it sits on top until everyone comes by and takes theirs.

WOW, heard you say about exercise "just put on the clothes", I was at my women's health check yesterday and was told I have high blood pressure, at 57 you start to see life differently and how short it actually is, it was my wake up call, I put on my trainers and walked for 0.3 miles, that may not seem alot BUT my knees are knackered with arthritis so it's definitely a good start..... thank you

I started exercise in my early sixties. I am now in my early 70's. A Physiotherapist started me off by saying.....walk out for 10minutes, 5 minutes out and 5 minutes back. I built it up weekly from then. Now can not do without it and my attitude was no different to yours Cas. You CANdo it and will slowly come to love the way it makes you feel 😊

Have learned so much from Dana K. White too. She says make something better today. I take that to mean eating healthier, decluttering a little each day, etc. Not this everything has to be perfectly done or it isn't good enough. It is a mindset for sure. Great video!

Something that the pandemic should have taught us is how fragile our way of living is. Hoarding isn't the answer, but being prepared is my way of life! I live in Houston where there are hurricanes and my husband got laid off during thr pandemic and we've always been fine due to my emergency preparedness. Rotating regularly is the answer, not minimalism. I can't tell you how many people we've been able to help during power outages, freezes, disasters because we live with a prepared mindset.

Cass - the mindset shift you talk about has helped me the most! Telling myself that I deserve to live in a clean, beautiful home has incrementally made it easier for me to just keep things tidy. My most hated chore is putting away dishes. It's just the worst, and I used to leave a dishwasher full of clean dishes for days and let my sink get piled high. Now I tell myself "I'm lucky to have the resources to cook a nice meal, and I deserve a clean kitchen." Over time I've become a person who puts away dishes every day. It takes some time and effort but it does work. Thanks for all you do!

This has been helpful, one comment about storing food, if you live alone and get ill, having a store of food really helps, even if you have to store it in unconvential places eg spare wardrobe. The up side these places are dark and food lasts longer in darker places. Sometimes people who have families, extended families, their own transport, and or a good friendship support network forget about or dont even realise how hard it is to cope when ill, alone with no transport or few support networks. This is your own insurance in these circumstances.

Cas… I feel you! Before my wedding I did a small steps process where I made better choices, not perfect ones… go to McDonald’s and get a cheeseburger and apple slices instead of fries, water instead of soda, share a shake with my kid instead of getting a shake for me and a kid shake for him, those kinds of things… progress not perfection! ❤

Trauma responses are weird sometimes. I was in a house fire in 2020, we lost absolutely everything. I just now realized that I now keep way less material possessions because in my mind, now I have less to lose if there were to be some event like that again. I didn't have an excessive amount of possessions before but I've really scaled back and was very resistant to replacing even basics at first.

I love to hear that we are all the same!!!!!!! If you ask me to go running, I'm gonna say a big NO!!!! BUT, I also really want to be a runner lol!!!! Removing the items that I paid money for or have attachment to is really hard, but once that first box leaves, I feel better. Seeing that clear counter or empty shelf makes me want to keep going and going!!!!! My husband likes to be prepared for when the world ends, so he'll stock up. The other day I brought down some wing sauce and was like "Hey, we haven't tried this one, maybe we can use it." He said "I think it was too spicy when I've used it before." ....................It was unopened and I looked at the neck of the bottle..............It was grey/green and the best by date was in 2018🤢!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has sat in our pantry and made the cut for 5 YEARS?!?!

When we were poor. And i mean REALLY poor i extreme couponed to feed my family and saved ALOT of things because i couldnt afford to replace things. I also made some money flipping kids clothes on ebay. Being frugal really caused a lot of clutter. Now MANY MANY years later it has been hard to get out of the clutter mindset. It starts with HAVING LESS STUFF. I have been ruthlessly decluttering and sold A lot of stuff on fb marketplace which kinda shows it was good stuff not really "crap" but if it doesnt sell in a week it goes to the donation center. This is working for me. I am feeling good about knowing where MOST things are. I started with my junk drawer. Then went to my other kitchen drawers. Did my bathroom closet. Did the 15 totes in my attic. Did my linen closet - donated 2 black trash bags. Did all the enclosed places in my living room, the coffee table storage, the buffet drawers, the entertainment center drawers...all the things. I now have EMPTY PLACES. For closets...with 3 boys i figured out a long time ago to hang all shirts/ tops for EVERYONES. It was a life saver. Also buy target hanes socks. They are color coded by size making sorting fast and easy and no socks except ONE COLOR ONE BRAND. No more mismatches because they ALL match. That saved my sanity when my kids were little.

The pest solution if you run out of toilet paper is to use water to clean and then dry it with a piece of clothes if you want, so you pour water in one hand and clean with the other hand 😁 and then don’t forget to wash your hands very good with soap. You can use a small garden watering can for that purpose it works the best or even a plastic water bottle. This is what they do in Middle East 😊 🥰💕

1:11:05 During the pandemic we were having toilet paper shortages too (Sydney AU). I told my adult daughters that I could clearly remember as a child helping to thread a string through squares of newspaper. There’s ALWAYS going to be newspapers, so although it’s not ideal, we already had a solution.

Hi! For laundry, I separate based on person and sometimes type of item in addition to lights/darks. My toddlers laundry is washed by itself, and I often wash my husband's clothes and mine seperately. That way when it's done I'm just working in one room or dresser when they're clean. Also Rockin Green detergents are great for baby messes or funky odors.

I just want to thank you both, this is my first time meeting you both. I am on a slow but steady simplifying journey to declutter/organize my home. I thank you for mentioning the scarcity mindset, that is me for most of the reasons you mentioned. I’m on a self awareness journey to adjust because I do know there is no harm in extra food items for just in case but I’ll be okay if I don’t have it all. I thankfully don’t have many expired foods, we do rotate….. has a lot to do with my husband’s job.😄 … but I lived in the mindset of possibly not having enough and what if…… doing better…. But also have the tug of war within, I love gardening, canning ( food prep) and chickens…. Juggling that I love doing this and that it’s not all about “being prepared”….. it’s a self judging within but I also tell myself of the satisfaction of growing food and preparing it, and how also it at times makes life easier on crazy days. Within the scarcity mindset I also have a husband that has worked in the food delivery business for well over 25 years. He delivers food to grocery stores/ restaurants and stocks the shelves with said food items. We had front row seats watching all the crazy with the pandemic AND we live in the south, the slightest mention of snow, ice, hurricanes the grocery stores are like Black Friday sales during Christmas. PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!! …. Did I mention my husband used to deliver milk?… now we are in the sandwich bread business. Life is/was crazy during these times. So I do my best to keep us supplied enough so we are not in the mix of these folks. Again I want to thank you for talking about this topic, it lets me know I’m not the only one ( self judging) and that I’m OK. P.S. I do have a decently clean home and am some what organized…. I’m just a bit overwhelmed with STUFF and want to simplify our lives. THANK YOU.😊

Thanks for this chat love you both. For the laundry - I hated it too and then I applied a similar approach of just so one thing- put away 10 things or put away stuff for one song and then I can quit. I use this for everything cleaning related. Timer for 5 minutes or 10 minutes. Over time I cleaned as I went and 10 or 15 and I could make any room look okay 😀
