Great video! Im glad y'all were spared from one more ride on spine blower. I think doing this in waves will definitely make sense like you said, with it being summer, just have some improvement on the worst parts, then finish it or append onto it later. Also, if Fun Spot is ALREADY doing major expenditures after AFO, I think it's safe to say they are not reeling from a bad financial decision. I think this only signals good things for Fun Spot and the rumored next steps at their parks.

Just don’t neuter it too bad like Lightning Rod and I’ll be happy. That GG layout is sooooo good, glad it’s hear to stay

Lightning Rod was neutered by the weaker launch. Mine Blower could only be neutered by trim brakes. The steel track might actually make it go faster.

While I agree that the Florida heat and humidity and whatever they do for maintenance is a factor for how rough it got, you have to factor in that Fun Spot is open year round so it gets more use then many other woodies. I never rode to the original Gwazi, but I know that had a reputation for having gotten rough in a hurry and I imagine Busch Gardens does a first rate job on maintenance.

Gwazi lasted longer because of the amount of maintenance and care that BG put into it.

White Lighting is the older of the two and it is pretty much as smooth as a wooden coaster can get since it recently got some standard retracking done, based on my visits White lighting was getting at least 4-8x the ridership of Mine Blower.

Glad they’re doing something. I rode it opening day in 2017 and it was my favorite coaster in FL for awhile. But it just tore itself apart. I hear the maintenance or humidity argument, but White Lightning still rides fine so it has to be something else, or a combination of factors. Either way, glad to see they’re working on it rather than just giving up on it altogether. It really is a great ride.

This ride has so much potential! I love the layout so much. The airtime is top notch but the roughness is unbearable. I like when wood coasters have a bit of a bite to them but Mine Blower was WAY too much. I rode it a bunch during my visit last year and it was impossible to ride it more than twice in a row. It some how ran even rougher for me during my visit this year! It was a one and done. I hope the retrack fixes the worst parts of the ride like every valley and some of the turns but still keeps some of that wood coaster bite.

I rode it twice (front and back) the day before it closed....the inversion and hills are not bad but....that those turns, oh my lord. It is not even rough at that point, it felt like a straight up car accident.

So excited about this. We go to Fun Spot a couple times a month. I won't let anyone in my family ride Mine Blower because I know they will hate it. I always ride it once a visit and swear I'll never do it again. I like the layout so making it smoother would be great. We've already got a full blown hybrid with Iron Gwazi, so just retracking Mine Blower is fine. I've always heard that part of the roughness is due to technical problems during construction. Still hoping for an RMC raptor for the Orlando park! I love White Lightning and my whole family loves Freedom Flyer. Adding an RMC would make Orlando such a great little park!

I honestly haven't really thought of Mine Blower getting an RMC retrack, especially since it opened only 6 years ago. I would expect it to get the GCI Titan Track or the Gravity Group precut track like you said if anything. Me personally have not rode it myself but from the back row POV, it does look like the train shakes quite a bit, especially on the valleys of the drops. It'll be interesting to see what this retrack does to the ride. I can't wait to ride it when it opens back up!

I am excited and I low key want the entire track to have the 208 on it. Just because, we have “RMC” hybrid/ibox coasters. Which are fun and crazy and in a category of their own. But we don’t have a “traditional” wood style coaster from them and Mind Blower is a “traditional” wood coaster, yes it has one inversion but for the most part it’s a traditional wood coaster layout, and with the support structure and layout even with a steel track could look and feel like a traditional wood coaster. And could potentially show, hey you can get that old school wooden coaster feel and layout and support structure that doesn’t have to be out of this work intense, but do it in all steel so it’ll remain smooth for years to come and is easier to maintain. Cause the 208 track doesn’t get painted so that it blends in with regular wood track. So it could still look like an old school woodie which is something we don’t have from RMC yet.

They just re-tracked White Lightning... It's really smooth now. I used to LOVE Mine Blower, but, it got way too bad. When GCI re-tracked White Lightning, they would replace track during the week and open it on the weekend. They are probably doing this in stages... Hopefully, a lot of the roughness is not due to those Timberliners. I think they vibrate too much. BTW, when you ride Hurricane, sit in the back row while someone with long hair sits in the front. It's fricking hilarious to watch during the weird transitions.

So thankful Holiday World opted out of those awful trains for Voyage.
@crooked-halo
@crooked-halo Жыл бұрын
They were too light to make it consistently over the course. They ran too slow. Voyage is tearing the PTC trains apart due to the extreme forces of Voyage. Boardwalk Bullet and Ravine Flyer II have the same problem, but not as bad. Their PTC trains need frequent work. I like Tmberliners, a lot, but it is entirely possible they might have a design flaw that causes GG coasters to become rough too quickly. Theoretically they're engineered to take extreme twists effectively, but they're new, and just might have problems that cause premature roughness.
@derpnowitzki1766
@derpnowitzki1766 Жыл бұрын
@@crooked-halo So if they were too light I genuinely think that might be their overall issue. They bounce around too much because the train is too light to hug the track

I think that any wood framed coaster with steal track is a hybrid coaster. It doesn't matter if the steel track is just a small section or the entire ride. I don't think you should call a coaster a steel coaster unless both the supports and track are steel.

Boardwalk Bullet, a Gravity Group coaster, is one of the most intense I've ever ridden. Yet it tracks extremely well without roughness, potholes, jerks or shimmies. With PTC trains, that aren't designed for extreme twists. Voyage and Ravine Flyer II, also Gravity Group coasters, are similar, not rough but very out-of-control and intense.

Hopefully, Mineblower stands as an unfortunate reminder to manufacturers and park owners that the weather HAS to be a concern when building a ride. I firmly believe Florida's heat and humidity just ruin wooden coasters, Ala Gwazi, and other victims as well. I think even though people love Florida for whatever reason and want it to continue to have all-star coasters, wooden coasters just shouldn't be built in Florida if this is going to keep happening. This ride has now basically negated whatever profits Fun Spot America hoped to gain off of Arieforce One, and pretty much all because of Florida; the ride most likely would not have been as harsh elsewhere. It's unfortunate for the company.
@crooked-halo
@crooked-halo Жыл бұрын
Boardwalk Bullet endures hotter temps, higher humidity & constant saltwater spray. It runs PTC trains that don't track as well as Timberliners. It also has wood structure and is much more twisted and aggressive than Mine Blower, yet it hasn't had extreme problems. Same with Santa Cruz Giant Dipper, Coney Cyclone, Swamp Fox & others.

I'd rather them keep it primarily wooden gravity group. But it has gotten increasingly rough and I hope on some of the wilder areas like the first double up in particular get the rmc railing, and some other sections. I do hope even if it "comes in waves" in the future that they leave everything up until past the inversion the way it is, as well as that heavily banked turn element gg uses on many other models. Also back when this was built it is thought to have been a rush job to open on its orginal set date, and extra outside contractors. So Florida heat aside I mean idk why white lightning doesn't get more credit its rarely not like 90% smooth, minimal 8/10 smoothness to me. But mine blowers debut and "decay" are routed away from gravitygroup on a decent level.

@@justacat472 Yeah, it's ridicoulous. I would've honestly assumed they'd work with Gravity Group again as at the time they said there relationship was good, but I think the outside contractors rush job pissed them off. Back b4 ArieForceOne, I figured they'd get something like "Switchback" at ZDT's at the Atlanta park (which to me would still be an option IF they hadn't probs screwed the relationship). Sadly it seems like the choice was either RMC "newest topper" or GCI titan I just really hope they don't ruin it on the really awesome parts like some I mentioned (super banked turn that kinda feels like a 2nd inversion, for example, though it obviously isn't, and staying a wooden coaster 3/4-mostly).

@@crooked-halo I'm old enough. I've been a coaster enthusiast for just over 15 years now. A bit late to the party, but got hooked when I did Superman Escape at Movieworld Australia soon after it opened. I've done enough wooden coasters in different countries around the world to know that Switchback was running rough on my visit last year. ZDTs is a fun park and the owners there are lovely people. Sarah was the one selling me the park ticket and she even asked where I was from, because I have an accent. When I said I'm from New Zealand, she was very impressed that I made the effort to come stop by their park, and I'm glad I did.
@crooked-halo
@crooked-halo Жыл бұрын
@@Marty_NZ Ok, thanks. The reason I asked is because it's typically young enthusiasts who say a coaster is rough, when to me it's not rough. Also, everyone has a threshold beyond which a coaster is rough. I've ridden Switchback over 200 times since it opened and it's rougher than when new, but to me the ride is not rough. I was there two weeks ago & live about 3 hours away in Grapevine between Dallas & Ft. Worth. There's far less appreciation for wood coasters today than there was in the 80s, and many, many kore enthusiasts who want all coasters to be glass-smooth. Switchback had extensive track work just a few months ago & it's amazing right now. Last year (Summer 2022) it was a bit rough but without potholes or major roughness. In fact I took photos of track last Spring that was in bad condition & showed it to a retired coaster carpenter friend to get his take. I have a much higher tolerance for rough, and a different definition, too. I enjoy very violent, turbulent coasters, but not roughness that comes from track problems. I usually stop at ZDTs on my way to or from Kemah Boardwalk, where one of my favorite coasters, Boardwalk Bullet is. Yes the owners of ZDTs are awesome. Ok I'll stop!

@@crooked-halo There's nothing wrong with defending a coaster that you love. I was at ZDT' end of March last year to give you an idea. I like lively coasters myself, but when all I can think of during the ride is "why is this so rough" then it takes away from the enjoyment. I've done a few other Gravity Group woodies with the Timberliner trains so I know what it probably should run or feel like. Most recent one would be Leviathan at Seaworld Australia and i'm doing it again soon. Love that ride and it's by no means smooth either, but it's not rough at all.
