Lyrics - Julia Ward Howe (1861)
Music - American Folk Melody (c. 1820)
Key - Bb Major
Tempo ~90 bpm
Please enjoy these simple recordings and feel free to give suggestions and requests! Thumbs up?... What did you like? Thumbs down?... What can I change for you?
Would you like to request hymns for this channel? Feel free to do that in the comment sections of these videos. Here's the guidelines for that:
1.) Limit 2 per person (feel free to request 2 more when yours are posted)
2.) Only public domain hymns (Pre-1923)
3.) Include author/composer and date of composition
4.) Be patient. This is one of many hobbies of mine and not a full time job. It may take a few weeks to a couple years to get yours done.
Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a spare closet that is just big enough for me to fit in. ( :
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A on to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com
-Gear can be found here: www.zzounds.com...
To my knowledge, most of the hymns that I record and post are public domain (except the ones I've obtained permission for). If you notice one that is NOT public domain, let me know as soon as possible so that I can take that video down.

Thank you for the music ministry, it's great to hear pure simple and pure singing in parts. I love it!!! The woman who wrote the lyrics to this song lived about five miles from where I live today: Portsmouth Rhode Island. To see Julia Ward Howe's clothing, furniture, and especially her very old Bible is amazing at the Portsmouth Historical Society. Thank you again for your ministry. With love and blessings!!! Miss Monique 🙂🙏🌷💗

Another memory of my life: (hope you don't mind.) I was about 6 years old and I started really enjoying hearing people lead. There was about an 80 year old man still at it leading singing, really good with kids, loved me and I would go to the point of "pretend" lead at home just like he would. Sadly, a couple years after, he died of natural causes and I got a card from him and a gift shortly before that. He and I were close. He is in a much better place, and he was my roots for just desire to lead singing. The guy who lead "All Hail The Power" that I mentioned yesterday was basically an alike role model that keeps me strong in my faith and makes me have hope for better days. About the song: we are accustom to leading it REALLY FAST. Dont know why maybe because it's a battle hymn? I think that was a perfect tempo, but unfortunately I think I am programmed to sing it faster!

The last part of the song wasn’t the original lyrics. “While he died to make men holy let us die to make men free” was how they sung this song when it was written

1:45 I was hoping for the original lyrics.... "let us die to make men free!" It cheapens the hymn to not recognize the sacrifice needed for freedom. It also breaks the parallel between Jesus and the men singing it.

Could you please do the Star Spangled Banner by John Stafford Smith composed in 1770s? It became the US national anthem in 1931

A Cappella Hymns Oh. Could you do my Country Tis of Thee (aka God Bless Our Native Land/God Save the Queen [King])? I don’t know exactly who composed the music, but I do know Samuel Francis Smith wrote the lyrics in 1831. It’s also a hymn in some churches

Preferred to hear an acapella church that have men and women singing together. There is no better melody when there's only group of men without women or vice versa.

There are certainly channels that have both and that's my preference as well. But this channel just doesn't (normally) feature that.
