This is awesome for most people playing but is also easily weaponized. For instance anarchy servers where people regularly attack the servers performance with lag machines can now do it by making epearl loaders and loading way more chunks then what should be allowed. This is easily fixed with a gamerule, as you said, that uses the change by default but allowed to turn off in those rare cases where players try to weaponize this. Still could be a big problem if not addressed.

This isn't true. Floats store 4 as 1 × 2² with no rounding error. Any multiple of a power of 2 can be stored exactly. The boat bug is not caused by 4, but rather 0.04 (1/25). This is not a multiple of a power of 2, so we can't store it. Instead, we store 10737418 × 2^(-28), which is very close to 0.04.

tl:dw Minecraft's acceleration due to gravity doesn't quite translate to binary. So when you fall from those heights, the tick before you land you're close enough to the ground to trigger the "grounded" flag which in turn makes the game skip the check for whether the damage is from falling. Thus you don't get the fall damage immunity

@@hyperventalated No pearls would stay when you log off almost all servers. If the pearl was in an unloaded chunk it acts as a stasis chamber where if you die at any point and its unloaded you can still get pearl back. essentially this kills anarchy servers

Great to finally see the slot highlight being made retexturable, just like how the tooltip was changed last snapshot. I hope we can retexture more things in future, such as the durability bar, the white square that appears over ender pearls when you throw them, as well as the black box that appears around worlds, resource packs and languages when you select them.

@@Ion_Cannon42 According to the leaderboard, Feinberg did All Advancements on 1.21 as recently as two months ago. Which is an even bigger problem, because that route abuses damage immunity when multiple pearl hangs resolve simultaneously to force an endermite without taking an unreasonable amount of damage. Of course, that route also builds a beacon and does lots of other stuff that maybe(?) makes it feasible to tank the damage outright, but I imagine you'd have to pause every now and then to heal since getting feather falling and/or protection is not otherwise required for that route. So this is straight RNG time loss on AA.

I absolutely love the fact that Mojang is making changes like this to resource packs. The first instance of this being shown was in 1.20.2 when they made most of the gui textures separate. Before 1.20.2, if you wanted to make a resource pack that makes fire green, you would have to change the entire furnace texture for just the flame in it to be green, causing it to not work with other resource packs that also change the furnace texture, but with small changes to things like this make it so much better for someone who wants to use multiple packs at once.

Main problem is that they unload when the player who threw it leaves (1:58), meaning if you want the farms to stay on all the time even when you leave, they need to be thrown by an alt account that never goes offline. If you need multiple chunks in an area loaded for a redstone farm/machine to work, that means multiple ender pearls, and multiple enderpearls means if one of them gets unloaded even for just a moment while the others are loaded (or vice versa), then the contraption is likely to completely stop working since some of it wasnt ticking while some was. You could design failsafes for this sort of thing, but given how a constantly running farm would require the person who threw them be logged in anyway, you might aswell just keep using the player bots/alt accounts that people where already using to afk load farms

I feel like what we need for the elytra and chest plate thing is accessory slots, like from Terraria. In Terraria you can equip several accessories that grant flight, speed, damage, or fancier things like double jumps, autoswing, and a dash, but in Minecraft, these can be things like the elytra, crab claw, totem of undying, and hopefully more in the future. Minecraft might only get one slot for this, but I like the idea.

When they announced the crab claw I saw the potential for exactly what you mentioned. I thought it’d be cool to have relics that were specific to certain biomes, mobs, or landmarks in the game that gave you special perks. Like a magnet to suck up items in a larger radius for example. You’re the only other person I’ve seen mention something similar.

We don't need the player to be even more overpowered by removing the risk of wearing Elytras, considering mobs are already comparatively weaker due to power creep and further protection enchantment from the chestplate makes hitting the wall trivial (same goes for just trying to escape PvE/PvP scenarios in general where not only can you fly away-- you also take practically zero damage while doing so). If we're gonna use Terraria to bring certain features in; then at least put into consideration why Terraria has those features in the first place (aka Terraria mobs tend to be more powerful and agile-- aka it's more balanced)

(Maybe a backpack, crab claw, etc.) Fine, maybe the risk is gone, but now there's an opportunity cost. It's an endgame item anyway, so why not implement it in a way that doesn't ruin the look of a player's armor? That's why people want to wear both at the same time anyway. Also, I'm not suggesting this because I want the game to behave more like Terraria. As an avid player of both, they are two fundamentally different games, and I don't want that to change. I was just taking inspiration for what I believe to be a generally good idea.

@@cheerstothat8089 Other than the fact that there's currently no other more desirable item than the Elytra (as well as said item functioning completely differently from an equipment like Totems); it still turns the player too powerful, especially considering getting an Elytra isn't exactly something locked behind a longer and harder progression like Terraria (this would become even more prominent once they start implementing Vaults to other structures like End Cities). If aesthetic is the problem anyways and we are willing to implement completely new features to balance it; then either retexture the Elytra to always have a chestplate that can be trimmed, or allow leather/leatherworker villagers to be useful by somehow allowing Leather Tunic specifically to be combined with Elytras through Smithing Tables or Trading (and Leather Tunic is much more customizable than any armor types so it's even better for addressing aesthetics). There's definitely a lot of things that Minecraft can borrow from Terraria when it comes to combat-related stuff but borrowing things that can drastically affect the balance negatively is not it when Minecraft is already badly balanced in the power-scaling.

I got a werid idea about the Ender pearl unloading when player logs off the server. - Make a bubble column for the pearl. - Instead of a trap door, put some string above and an observer looking at it. - Observer refreshes a comparator decay clock when the pearl bounces in the bubble column (hitting the string). - When player logs off*, pearl stops refreshing the decay clock and after some time, the clock goes off. - At this point a piston pushes/pulls soul sand away to disable the bubble column. (edit: or swaps for a magma block to speed it up) - Player logs back in, and the Ender pearl floats to the bottom, teleporting the player once it hits. Boom! Truly wireless Ender pearl stasis chamber. Just log out for some set amount of time and you'll get teleported back home when you log back in. * Stasis chamber obviously needs a chunk loader itself.

You can also add a system such that if you wait too much the chamber gets turned back on. This way you don't always get teleported but maybe you have a 10 minute timeframe to use it. Which means you can have as many of these as you like, and by waiting different times you can get teleported anywhere! (As long as the server stays always on)

@@SliferStreaming Currently the pearl is deleted when player logs off and you have to pop a new one in the stasis chamber after logging back in. Pearl reappearing in its previous position is the exact mechanic I want to use. It won't mess it up, it relies on it :)

@@BellCube Good point. But that's only one of two things to consider. One is for how long are chunks loaded by an Ender pearl when players logs off. May be possible to detect it disappearing in that time to switch it to „summon” mode. At this point it can wait unloaded. Second is what happens when player logs back in. Does the pearl load that chunk when reappearing with player login? If both of these are generous, it's possible no chunk loader will be needed.

i agree... but take it the extra thematic step: you _do_ get damaged - but only if your pearl hits water - as would an enderman [and then you get *more* damage than currently] - that way, it adds that wanted variety of travel without penalty, but also that element of greater occasional risk if you use them blindly into unknown regions.

If you wanna encourage transportation other than elytra; they should instead properly balance other transportation systems like Rails on top of Copper having increased speed and speed limit or making Horse Armor enchantable with Frost walker and make the trees a few blocks taller to make Horse travel smoother as a whole. Removing the one drawback of Ender Pearls as a transportation (with it requiring high level enchantments to negate) would simply remove any kind of hope that other transportation method other than Pearl Cannons and Elytras will ever be practical-- discouraging variety instead.

Since interdimentional ender pearl travel was added I’ve been really wanting to try make a system where instead of using regular nether travel, you can just link up loads of slime block launchers in the nether which connect to all portals you want to have in a system, and you could select which portal you want to go to via something like the stamps on Hermitcraft. However, if you’re at the stage of the game where building this is a viable option, you probably have an elytra which would deem this idea pointless

ender pearl portal hub is a dope redstone contraption. bubble collum enderpeal could be used to show which players are online, and when they logout, so a logout detector cool, alhough now ender pearls will always destroy themselves when a player dies anywhere in the world.

I’m almost certain that this new drive to make everything data driven is to help Minecraft compete with Fortnite and Roblox. Those are the biggest game development platforms for custom games and they are raking in cash, so it’s cool to see something that will benefit both Minecraft and Microsoft at the same time

Combining armor sets is broken. Imagine have the benefit of flight and increased durability from netherite armor. It just makes the game less fun, because there’s less strategy.

@sweettea735 with mending and unbreakable 3 durability is not really much of a concern, and the rest of your armor being protection 4 netherite dying (in pve) isn't much of a concern either. late game there's not much of a strategy here anyways, why not have some broken fun, plus I'd love a challenging structure for late game with a powerful reward.

Since the pearls unload when the player leaves the server even if the chunk they’re in is still loaded, you could have a tripwire over a statis chamber in place of the trapdoor, allowing you to detect when the player enters and leaves the server.

i just wonder if it loads every chunk along the way or just calculates where it lands and then works backwards to see if there is wall collision, because an ender pearl cannon could be real badnews

The pearl loading can and will cause a lot of lag for larger servers. The pearl should only load chunks if it has any horizontal motion. It would still keep the current snapshot throwing behavior. It would still allow pearl cannons. And it would still allow to build chunk loaders with them although they would now be a bit more complicated than "a soulsand and 3 water blocks"

Not that bad, a player load much more chunks. Only if you intentionally want to lag the game you will do it with a epearl and that you could do with ordinary portal chunkloaders aswell

I really hope they don't revert that ender pearl chunk loading thing, because that means you can build a farm anywhere and keep it loaded without having to build the complex nether portal loader.

Holy $#!t that's a big change to pearls Might annoy the speedrunners (if they ever get off 1.16.1), but that's an effortless chunk loader (so long as you're online) and a super powerful pearl cannon. The big one I'm thinking about is that you should be able to detect the pearl unloading when you leave the game, then have that trigger a teleport when you get back online. I could see that being used when you're in danger on a hardcore world, or just need to travel thousands+ blocks back and forth a few times. Extra points if you can make it require a specific number of unloads.

The relog detection won't work on a singleplayer world, since everything gets unloaded and saved at the same time when you quit to the title screen.

Some things they should add: Sheer pigs and strider for saddle Option for what can pass tru a Beacon Option to give the property of a broken but repairable (aka like the wings, they don't disappear and you can repair) Pet animals (wolfs, cats, parrots) should chunkload when standing and outside of player chunk loading zone to teleport to them more reliably Fix dolfins by maybe giving them the not Drow/suffocate when Far away Do note idk if they are in the game in other forms

Watching Mojang slowly move the game to data-driven systems is so exciting, I grew up with this game and remember being very sad when Mojang said they would make a modding API, and we never got it, this isn't quite that, but it's close enough, datapacks are becoming more powerful with each update and I love seeing it, can't wait for the day we no longer need special launchers and mod loaders to change the game, especially for small servers with less technically inclined players!

They're basically making modding a lot easier and more vanilla compatible. Hopefully this gets added to Bedrock, maybe as a menu. Imagine if you could add the egg laying/scute shedding propert to any mob? Have chickens/parrots shed feathers and stuff like that. I'm still waiting for them to add a tameable tag.

Being able to modify and change things so easily via datapacks is cool and all, but the real benefit from moving more and more of this stuff to being data driven is on Mojang's side, as it allows them to make future updates faster and easier.
