Those cacti may actually come in handy for defense, and maybe even offense. You can generate more by placing one, and then placing a block diagonally above it (not directly on top, but to the side by one). The cactus will attempt to grow, but the new growth will be too close to a block, and it will pop off on its own as an item drop. That way you don't need to break anything. You can use water to help move all the cactus drops into one pickup location, if you feel it's worth using your iron to make a bucket.

That's actually really cool, like an old western US goldmine. I haven't played modern Minecraft (the latest I've played is 1.6, because I'm always using mods) so I'm often just as confused as Kevin looking at all these new features.
@CaptNSquared2 жыл бұрын
@GregariousGregor The new ore map is really cool actually. Things spawn at different layers and at different levels within those layers. Some things are also biome dependent, and some ores have a "reduced/no air generation" meaning they won't generate exposed to air. (this seems kinda bugged though as Lapis apparently has no air generation but I see it all the time). I also like it because if you are digging at the optimal level you will get loads of whatever recourse you want for you pic. 1 diamond pic will reliably get you several diamond pics worth of diamonds and a heck of a lot of other stuff, unlike the old days. There are also MASSIVE iron and copper veins that generate like spider webs and can contain hundreds of ores. But they often spawn diagonally so it's not obvious/the easiest to mine. But yeah cliffs and caves 2 brought a lot of cool stuff to the underground
@kenjutsukata1o12 жыл бұрын
@@CaptNSquared Dang, that sounds really cool! Makes me wish it were easier to update mods. Are there new goals/tasks to complete? The reason I play with mods is they give me a purpose when playing (make a dinosaur park in Fossils & Archeology, collect all the dragons in Wyrmroost, beat all the bosses in some RPG modpack I forget the name of, etc.). Basically I want a tangible goal beyond surviving and exploring. Besides The End, of course. I've done that half a dozen times now. This is kind of the most fun way to play the game since it requires exploration. I like to limit myself to surface and blast mining, so hardcore adventure rules make things a bit tricky. You're seriously underutilizing your peaceful options, though. You've made such a running gag of villages only being useful for taking items that you've totally forgotten the long term rewards that can be gained by contributing! They actually have everything you need First of all, farming: If you can still place blocks and do right click actions there's nothing stopping you from doing this now that you've figured out a workaround for pulling crops. This will cover your food supply forever. Failing that, the farmer should still replace the crops you pull at an excruciatingly slow rate. *Make sure he doesn't die.* Any village with a golem should be pretty safe to live in without losing your relationships, which brings me to my next strategy Trading: You can basically beat the entire game using only trading. Someone made a crazy video where he charted out an entire route for his dad to beat the game using as few reflex-intensive actions as possible, and it involved a lot of trading. At high levels you can get blaze rods, ender pearls, and complete sets of armor by building relationships with the same few villagers If you really need cooked meat, you can also attack mobs using the flint and steel. You can usually find more in temples, mineshafts, and other hostile dungeons. If you can find it consistently it may also become the new strategy for wood since fire breaks it

So in regard to the weird mineshaft around 10min in - In the mesa biomes (big hills of red clay usually next to deserts or savannahs) it is possible for there to be a mineshaft spawn in at higher levels, usually with parts of it or most of it exposed to the surface! They can be pretty dangerous with all of the poison spiders running about, but they have some pretty decent loot! If you continue playing in this area then I would also keep an eye out for any desert temples since you can lure a creeper in to open up the pit for you to enter, just as long as you have enough blocks to staircase out again and don't touch the pressure plate in the centre. You also passed a jungle biome in your boat that may contain a temple with loot in it too, just beware of the traps inside since you can't cheat and mine yourself around them. :)

The land-level mineshafts are only generated in the mesa (or badlands as its called in-game) Pretty lucky nonetheless though

Kevin, you're technically allowed to pick up a boat because it's an "entity" and not a "block".

I need to know how it's stupid are you saying it's not possible? Honestly think it might be possible might take forever but still think it's possible thanks to creepers exploding ,iron golems can drop iron, he hasnt fished yet but I think that could also help him because he cant make books to get enchants because of the paper situation . Honestly this challenge is intriguing not stupid but I'm still pretty new so just wondering why it's stupid to you ? Genuinely just curious

Loving these challenges! Staying in a village might be a good strategy; it will spawn you golems for protection, which will eventually drop you iron when dying! Also, free use of a furnace in blacksmith house, not to mention beds. I hope you continue this one :)

boats are considered entities iirc so you can break them....also get a water bucket since you can break a few blocks indirectly that way like torches and cobwebs
@k0k0mlml2 жыл бұрын
Kevin!! If you continue this playthrough: you can use a bucket of water to harvest crops without destroying the tilled soil. This can also work with breaking grass/weeds for seeds, which you could put in a composter for bone meal and grow crops faster.
@sarac94242 жыл бұрын
This!! Except would using the bucket to put down and pick it up count as a "mining" action?

I would like to see more of this challenge. I think it's very possible to beat the game without mining. Finding gold to trade with piglins in the nether will probably be necessary though

Also Kevin, if you place three blocks beneath you, you can kill the Iron Golems in the villages without being hurt, normally giving you 3-5 iron ingots (and a rose sometimes!)

Hey Kevin, I can highly recommend Optifine for lighting, it'll allow you to have light when torch is in your hand rather than having to place it to get the light!
@WarlandWriter2 жыл бұрын
FYI you can also obtain stone by exploding creepers near it
@Vambrayse2 жыл бұрын
After doing some thinking i've come to the realization that beating the game without breaking a single block is possible. I'm writing this to describe how. Optimizing your block getting strategy is very important. Personally I'd recommend trying to get gravel and sand with creepers. Then kill creepers for gunpowder, or you can find some in chests. Make TONS of TNT, the more the better. TNT will be our way of mining, however to light it we need a tool. I'm not sure if exploded gravel can drop flint, though you could just find flint and steel in chests. For the nether you need to run around and look for ruined portals, pray for obsidian and eventually you'll have enough for a portal. You could also find the stuff in random chests. The end will probably be the most annoying part, especially getting to it. You need to throw eyes of ender to find it, and then bomb your way down. Once you eventually find the portal after some navigation and explosions you will simply need place a bed to set your spawnpoint. Then you just have to put in your eyes of ender and hop in. Fighting the dragon will go as normal, you can use a bow to knockout the healing crystals. You can also use the bed trick if you're experienced with it.
@AnderEvermore2 жыл бұрын
When going to the end bring lots of tnt and or creepers too. If the end spawn is underground you cannot get out without breaking blocks so you may have to blow it up.
@ducky23792 жыл бұрын
You can just make the obsidian with lava and water in the right spots to complete the nether portal frame.

This seed is actually amazing like it looks so pretty in some parts and it has so many wierd spawns and places, Kevin needs to give us this seed.
@thebreakfastmenu2 жыл бұрын
The badlands biome often has ground level mineshafts like that, along with numerous spider spawners. They're really fun to find. I've come across a lot of them, so I don't think they're any rarer than the biome itself. Also, instead of placing torches and being unable to get them back, hold on in your left hand!
@imcrazygnomie66422 жыл бұрын
I feel like "I'm not allowed to mine" would be a challenge that - to me - would only apply to literal mining. Like if you have to use a pick to get it then you can't "mine" it. Chopping down trees - digging dirt, and farming shouldn't have counted. This is just my personal opinion though. This was more of a "Minecraft but I'm not allowed to hit any blocks."
