Minecraft Cathedral Timelapse

When your villagers demand a cathedral, go big. This cathedral was built on a survival SMP in the City of Xen and the choir seats 32 clerics. The goal of the city is to house villagers in a way that makes sense, rather than a single trading hall… and this is the first step.
The timelapse represents hundreds of hours of build time (each second of the timelapse is equivalent to approximately 12 minutes in game). It is my first attempt at creating a Minecraft timelapse. Leave a like and comment to let me know if you would like to see more timelapses like this.

This entire timelapse was recorded using the ReplayMod and the day/night cycle was replaced using Bob Lite.

It has this perfect mix of gothic opulence and original style. I have never seen the two towers beside the apse before, and I love the sort of painted vaults, which in a normal gothic cathedral would be bare stone.

As a bit of a Cathedral/Church builder myself (albeit on a MUCH smaller scale) this is absolutely spectacular! The ornateness of everything, the bright colours of the upper walls and the stained glass, and the use of copper which was brilliant, you are so underrated and I look forward to more of your epic builds in the future, the best cathedral I have ever seen in Minecraft!

This is a masterpiece, translates the real life feeling of a Cathedral into Minecraft. I've been searching for examples on youtube for a long while now, my 7+ year old SSP needs something to stand out. I also want to create a grand trading hall, although I don't have the skills you have it motivates me to create something to crown the 7 years existence.

It really has its own stile and is of reasonable/to scale size which a lot of mc cathedrales dont have super impressed that you built this in survival, absolutely stunning to look at. New sub here! There are many great vids out there of epic builds but hardly any that are survival! As someone who likes to build big in survival I am absolutely in love with your content! I play on a SMP, just a few of us, and we dug a massive perimeter for one of our members a few months ago, so I'm never going to be short of stone/ore materials. Everything else is very time consuming to collect, I hope viewers appreciate how much must have gone on behind the scenes before you even start building!

​@@XendisabuI like it when the darker grades are on the bottom and the lighter ones above which naturally draw your eyes up, for the blocks i think an assortment of black stone to basalt to stone brick along with all their gradients. I love the shape of your cathedral but one other thing was that i'm not a fan of the inside roof i like the idea you were going for although its a little bit of an eye sore. Great video still

what did you planning process look like? did you prebuild it in creative and then use a schematic to build it on the server? and how long did the building process take on its own, lol

Hi! All of the builds that I record are built and tweaked in creative mode on a test server first, and then built in survival on the SMP. It's been a while, but I think the survival world build time was between 110-130 hours. I don't remember how much time was spent farming materials, but it was a lot... =)

Not including prep-time or resource gathering, the cathedral took over 100 hours to build in survival. Most of the building is made out of stone, cobblestone, andesite, diorite, and glass. The arched ceilings are comprised of glazed terracotta to attempt to make it appear like they are covered in frescoes, and the roof of the cathedral is made of cut copper blocks.
