I think the tree looks great so far, and I think it can look great in several other versions too. Therefore, I think it would be a super pro move, if Bdubs made this tree change with the seasons. Like every episode it would change slightly, like leaves being added, changing colours, or falling off, making the tree feel even more alive and realistic. This is actually a concept I’ve been wanting to see a Hermit do for a while now. And I think Bdubs would be the perfect candidate for it.

I really appreciate the white balance / color grading that Bdubs uses-it's _cooler_ than Minecraft's usual, and that makes the plains surrounding BDubs' base feel like it's set in rural Wyoming or Montana. Especially with the tree, which gives off a strong "snowless winter" vibe.

I was going to say, the tree looks like an oak. Hardwood trees come in two basic branch configurations. Alternate branches like the one you build where you, have branch and then move up a little and there's a branch on the other side. Then there's opposite, branches always grow in pairs. Maples and Ash trees are always opposites, so it gives them a distinctive look.
@robertperschau5910

also many pines and other conifers have a whorled configuration, where many branches will emerge in regular intervals going up the trunk, or move upwards in a spiral pattern that tapers towards the top

Bdubs, I work in treecare and think that tree looks fantastic and realistic. Something I commonly see with large old oaks and elms is defects and wounds that the trees have healed around and learned to live with. Makes the 150-300 year old trees have tons of character and scars from storms past taking limbs off. Its very rare to fins a tree that old and mighty without some sort of scar or wound it has learned to live with. I think your tree looks great as is, just a thought on a way to make it extra unique and give it some history.

The soundscape, the shot composition, and the almost airy nature of this video gave it such a unique tone and feeling. In the beginning I was feeling 'Wizard of Oz', then started getting vibes of a Miyazaki film such as 'Kikis Delivery Service' or 'Spirited Away', by the end I was completely enraptured and understanding it as its own piece of media. Bdubs, you're always an artist, and this video is a testament to that fact, I will always love your energy, complimentative behaviour and build-up style of social play. P.S. idk if it needs leafs, the vibe of a temperate grassland in late autumn or early winter sounds extremely idyllic but not one seen in minecraft often.

the thing Bdubs described as branches at a smaller angle being weak is true! in arboriculture we call the place where a branch emerges a branch union or branch attachment, and when the angle is high, the bark ends up growing into the vascular system and rubbing when the tree blows in the wind, it can restrict the flow of nutrients and create a point of entry for fungus or other diseases, that bark is called included bark. good job studying trees Bdubs!!

Hey BDubs, to add on to your social experiment. You should propose to the other Hermits that anyone left as a Reaper owes the winner a favor?!?! Could add so many twists to the end of Demise for team ups, backstabs, a little "back alley" dealings and so on. Plus who would the Reapers rather owe the favor too outta who is left "alive" at the end.

Bdubs I’m no redstone expert like yourself but it would be super cool if you could have a clock tower that rings a bell when the sun is about to set- maybe you could take a comparator output from a clock? Or maybe you would need to build a clock

Sunlight sensor would do that thing. Clock in minecraft is janky, because of unloaded chunks.

@@Urakoitsija Daylight sensor wouldn't do any better in unloaded chunks though?!
@Urakoitsija
@Urakoitsija 7 ай бұрын
@@JacksonOwex you dont need tho, if nobody is going to hear it. Daylight sensor would work regardless if you enter those chunks before its evening. Redstone clock will stop working right when the chunk is unloaded, and will start again where it stopped, after you load the chunks again. So if you're away from the chunk half a day, the clock is half a day late.

So it's not that weak forty five degree branches will just die and drop off, they just have a weaker connection to the trunk and so in storms or whatever they're more likely to break off and rip a giant wound for feet below the connection point. Those giant wounds are the real problem as they take a long long time to seal over such large areas and invite rot into the trunk. So usually arborists remove them with a smaller cleaner cut to prevent that. But a strong branch collar (ridge at connection point) makes it so it'll break off above that for sure. Another thing to look for to prevent those giant wounds: if a branch has a diameter a third as thick as the trunk or more, so the trunk isn't obviously bigger, I forget what that's called but it can lead to a great big splitting injury as well, usually even worse. That kind of branch is often found lower on the trunk and may be supporting half the branches. It can be bad

What a gorgeous tree!!! It reminds me of the puriri trees near where I grew up in NZ - there was a group of about 3 or 4 huge old ones looming out over the top of the fern forest, with silvery bark and deep green leaves, and in the summer they'd be covered in bright red berries (and huge fat native pigeons eating them!). We used to picnic under them sometimes because the ground all around the roots was soft and covered in dense moss. I love how your builds can evoke so much, each one tells a story and the episodes this season have been such a delight to watch

Idea for the tree! I have no clue on if this is too much work but what about changing the tree's leaves/no leaves for what cycle Bdub's real trees are going though. Right now by me tree's are bare and waiting to start growing new leaves later on. Seeing the tree cycle through a couple seasons would be cool

I wanna mention certain trees naturally have 45 degree branches nearly the whole way, specifically in the midwest there's a lot of these trees where the thicker and closer to the trunk the branch is, the more it points up, splitting the trunk into 2-4 mini trunks before spider-webbing out to more horizontal branches that sag under their own weight. I think these are white oaks around me. Might have to do with the climate allowing tons of snow to slide off the branches easily

The whispering as Bdubs looked at the sunset what the HAY was that. Also, I adore how much love and attention Bdubs gives to his builds. That tree... You can tell the love he put into it. About trees being grey, I actually realized it when I was little. I was walking back from primary school when I saw the trees around me and thought "but they're grey... Why do we paint them brown?" but chalked it up to the tree type that I see vs the trees from the northern hemisphere. And yes, some trees are browner, but always wondered why we write them off as brown when most weren't oh- oh it just hit me. We think of them as brown because the inside is brown. So we think logically the bark should be brown too, but nope. Anyway, rooting for you Bdubs! Really hope you win! Although False's technique of not logging in may help her in that aspect. Still. You can do it!

I’m grew up in a forestry household and I’m planing on taking silviculture. Which is studying and replanting trees. I noticed that the size of tree, the low branch on the back would’ve fallen off or grown upwards with the tree. It would be a little higher up on the trunk.

a good way to protect against trapped chest/others is to make them float so no redstone can be around your stuff.

That's not entirely true anymore though! Skulk Sensors can be used to make wireless redstone, so opening the chest would activate the sensor which could activate TNT or other trap!

Loving the tree, it's kinda giving Tulip Poplar? I may just be biased but the strong apical dominance and just the sheer height are characteristic of that species. If you wanna go full tulip poplar you could sprinkle some yellow glass panes in for the flowers! Again, i'm just a biased little biologist who really loves tulip poplars so no pressure.

I love the tree and I love how you observe things to incorporate into your builds. That's how artists work... as a tip for future trees and other plants, take note on how the leaves and branches come out of the main plant. There are plants that are alternating, as in one leaf will come out on one side then the next, so they kind of zig-zag. Opposite plants will grow their leaves on the same level, on opposite sides of the plant. Whorled plants grow a bunch of leaves from one node. It all depends on what kind of plant it is. I find your building style and the way you describe your thought process to be really inspiring.
