Note blocks that are further away from the player are quieter. I think that the circular arrangement was used to play the sounds further right and left (I wanted to do something like that myself but that was just too much work for me. XD). This means centered, far away = quiet on both headphone sides. Left, far away = no sound on the right side of the headphones but quiet sound on the left side. Right, near = quiet sound left and loud sound right.

いちこめおつです。 線路っぽいというコメントは時々もらいますが、特に線路や電車は意識せずに作っていました。 距離調節もそうですが、少しでもましな音になるように回路を組んでいたらこんな形になっちゃいましたね〜

i have never heard sounds like these in minecraft, like how tf do u get some of them beginning notes? they seem to like drag on and stuff, usually its just a single sound and thats it, the note doesnt usually fade away
