The story of Herobrine will always be a fascinating one to me; not just in regards the actual Creepypasta, but the story surrounding it's spread as well. The original story was the perfect length for retelling and passing around, and since it was fairly vague in it's details there was plenty of room for speculation regarding Herobrine and his motivations. Then there's the livestream that kicked off his rise to stardom, it's crazy to think that if this one piece of media didn't exist the legend of Herobrine likely would have been lost to history. It's one of those things that I can barely wrap my mind around, given just how much Herobrine has affected the Minecraft community and beyond.

As a kid, even though I was scared of him, for some reason I always had this obsession of summoning or finding him. Idk why, but it’s funny how for me instead of only being scared, I’ve always had this idea of stopping him (or any other urban legend character) from spreading through my other device/console. I do miss the era of being scared of gaming/internet urban legends, it was both scary and fun to just be afraid, nowadays I’m more scared of realistic scenarios.

I remember watching a narration of that before, also wasn’t there another youtuber that created a backstory series?? I can’t remember much (I don’t blame those that don’t either), but I think it had 2 protagonists collecting discs that reveals the past of Casey, which reveals she was bullied up until stumbling in a cave (which is generic and self-explanatory lol), and the story ends with the two protagonists dying. Also I remember watching another narration of the “scream of the end” or something along those lines, I was too scared of watching the rest of it back then. Edit: as for the “series” part that I forgot to add on, that’s now lost media since the video is now gone. Idk if the creator is still around or if he’ll one day reupload them, but I hope that someone else aside from myself can remember them and have it archived.

Herobrine was one of those legends that seemed possible, and you could never shake up the thought it may have existed. Herobrine was perfect, with the game Minecraft being super open, no ending, and having infinite hours of time it wouldn’t surprise me If he was real. Of course, kid KZbin channels have to ruin a part of the legend for you.

I would always remember when I was younger looking at Minecraft videos of people claiming to find herobrine on Minecraft pocket edition. I was kinda spooked because I knew back then in pocket edition there were no options for skins unless you modded the game or somewhat, which I didn't know at the time. Though the game itself always had a general feeling of loneliness.

Herobrine is one of the few creepypastas that hold some nostalgic value to me, as he was part of my exposure to Minecraft back in 2012. I was never really Scared of Herobrine, but I was more fascinated by him and the legends surrounding the character. I remember being told by a school friend about Herobrine while in class, that feeling about a supposed haunted entity within the game made it way more fun to play, adding to the mystery surrounding Minecraft as a whole. The Character nowadays is usually the butt of most jokes now, but I would really like for somebody to make Herobrine genuinely frightening again.

Look up the "From the Fog" datapack. I've recently started a survival world with it installed and with the Simpler Times resource pack, putting my graphics on low on purpose and intensifying the fog with optifine... pretty close to that mysterious atmosphere the game had in its earlier versions

The thing I always liked about Herobrine, with only the context of the original Creepypasta, is just how different he was from most characters found in gaming Creepypastas of the time (or even later Minecraft urban legends). He's not in-your-face or a malicious entity out for the player's head. He's subtle, always there in the corner of your eye only to disappear as soon as he appears. He doesn't make himself known to you upfront, rather putting out small signs that you're not the only one roaming this infinite, blocky world. A ghost in every sense of the word even if he had never been written as "Notch's dead brother". If there's any mods for Minecraft that give me this kind of Herobrine experience I'd love to know because I can't seem to find any.

i think another reason why herobrine became popular was that a game like minecraft was the perfect setting for him to exist ya know that feeling you get when you play empty multiplayer maps in games or just play on empty maps in general? that eerie feeling of being watched and being alone for awhile? well idk about you but when i was younger Minecraft was one of the games that gave me that feeling (the extremely creepy cave sounds didnt help) herobrine was one of the first gaming urban legends to really capitalize on that feeling and concept and it just adds to the creepiness factor when the feeling becomes a reality

Okay so I believe this STARTED as a creepypasta but I think the devs added him in at some point because I've encountered him twice. Here's my stories if you'd like to read: So the first time I ever played Minecraft was in 7th grade, I went and spent the night at a friend's house and we pulled an all nighter playing it because he was a big fan of the game, at some point throughout the night we were attacked by a third player and killed and the whole time he just kept yelling "Holy shit its herobrine." I had no idea what he was talking about, he had to explain it to me lmao. We were playing offline because he didn't have Xbox live. And the second encounter I had was on the mobile version of the game, it was on one of the earlier builds, I can't remember what year. Me and my cousin were playing together and were building a dirt hut and he just kinda showed up out of nowhere and killed us. After we respawned he was gone. We were also playing offline. Anyways those are my stories. It's wild honestly but I love how the devs added him in just to fuck with us.

it goes against all logic and reason but i am 100% sure i found the real herobrine after fucking around and finding out it's an extremely vivid memory from the minecraft xbox 360 days and it spans like a week, one day a bunch of those herobrine totems on my friends world (he believed in herobrine; i didnt) and a day later i booted up a singleplayer build i was working on, untouched, still had the date from the last time i built, only to load it up and watch as somehow, there was a bunch of lit tnt below it that started exploding as soon as i loaded it; as a kid, my young mind rationalized it as trolling from another friend i had so i ended my friendship with them, throughout the week i would find out i was completely wrong there is no logical explanation for anything that happened except "herobrine", at one point when i was playing with a few friends with only 3 connected players that were next to me, there was an invisible player (not potion effect invisible, that would have particles, they were entirely invisible) flying around the overworld spamming ghast eggs (xbox 360 had NO commands in ANY capacity) it's an extremely long story and i don't feel like going into the details, it ended with me ruining herobrine's plans but being unable to kill him because he's herobrine so i just stopped playing 360 version forever i'm also pretty sure the house was cursed and not the game because a lot of weird shit goes down there, i had a toy as a kid that turned on at night and repeated a voiceline about taking me to california until one day it straight up said my name and my parents (who witnessed all of this) put it away, we've moved now and nothing weird has happened
