Minecraft songs have an ability i can only describe a supernatural; they invoke so many pure emotions into my body that I can't help but cry, and I am not someone who normally cries at basically anything. That's because I believe that crying is not a bodily response to sadness, but a response to emotion itself, when it all gets too overwhelming. Minecraft music manages to tell such a comprehensive story in such a beautiful manner it manages to bring me to tears every time. The composers of the original minecraft album are musical geniuses. Truly a 1 off album.

The Minecraft song "alpha" the song playing on the end poem, make me stare into a void, thinking, about life, the constant starting, and ending, and about how limited it, the positive moments and the negatives, it just makes me think, about how small we are. All while at the same time, making me think of my Minecraft childhood. But this is just my perspective of the song

I love how the End poem is basically reminding you, that you exist. In a frankly absurd and incomprehensible world, simultaneously as an inevitability and a near impossible fluke of physics, perceiving reality only as much as your mind can construct it. Its somehow so incredibly personal yet applicable to pretty much any person at any time. Definitely makes you contemplate your place in the world, and how each little moment fits in. Its also a nice commentary about how in many ways Minecraft is a parody of existence, and can be seen as no more fake than our own experience of life, which itself is merely an interpretation of the underlying truth of the universe. There's also a sort of hinting at an incomprehensible meaning to the universe, and to our lives, and the games we play. Truly a fitting poem for a quasi-end to a sandbox game centered on the player and creativity

my friend just casually sent this to a gc I was not mentally prepared at all I haven't seen this text and sat through it since I was like really young. all I vaguely recall was it saying I played the game good- and being proud. ...even then I don't really recall- that's already pushing it, since I needed to see this to even remember anything. I don't even remember the song at all, not even a bit, outside of the bits of the rest of the ost in there, but not that song in specific. You, sir.. You're the first ever person I've heard. Read this poem. As if the universe itself was reading it to someone. The comfort behind each word and pause was just.. perfect with the softness and warmth that it gave. I feel as if you did The End poem justice, how few people ever read the poem at all when playing the game and listening to the forgotten song. This was perfect in a way of a peaceful melancholy. It had brought me to tears and goosebumps, I'm not really sure if you may be able to read this or not, but a small sliver chance you may as to how early I was to this video.. honestly- this has been the first video in a long while I watched from you when I finished your miracle musical video essay.. TL;DR: The song is called Alpha by C418 I listen to C418 outside of Minecraft, so I've heard this song a lot. I remember first hearing it on the end screen and being surprised that it was actually in the game files!
@StuffandThings_7 ай бұрын
I never heard Alpha in game. But for me, it is the most powerful of the Minecraft songs. It feels like a song about nostalgia itself, a musical reminiscence of the good 'ol times. Every time I hear Alpha, I can't help but pause everything else and just dredge up old memories of the early 2010's. Its like it tells a story of all the memories you've made, and the journey that you've been on.

In the legacy editions, music would not stop playing. Meaning you had sweet sweet c418 with this atmospheric fog and limited worlds. It felt quaint and like this world was yours. The water border kept you grounded, instead of going out thousands of blocks, you had to work with what you had, appreciate your current scenario. All while c418 masterpieces played. The legacy console editions were truly a time of a different era.
@Gold_Yoshi7 ай бұрын
It’s the very thing that kept me from moving on to other versions. The sense of ironic freedom the limited world size gave is unmatched, the constant music keeping me going and inspiring fun builds, knowing where everything is at all times and being able to get there at a moments notice. There’s a mod for java called legacy 4j which is trying to bring as much of legacy console back as possible, but they haven’t gotten limited world sizes yet. Everything else is there though for the most part.

I have no clue what to say. Should I say how much I love the amount of meaning and depth that can be drawn from one song. Maybe mention the love I feel for the writing of the poem and how much clear passion went into it. Or perhaps talk about how I've grown up with Minecraft throughout my life, and this video makes me adore it so much more. I think I'll just say my favourite line from the credits. "And the Universe said you are stronger than you know"

I'm been absolutely wreaked by nostalgia upon hearing about the 15th anniversary. Its seriously been that long. I played minecraft pocket editon before they even had different types of trees and redstone was a just a rare ore, watched hours of youtubers play together on Xbox, and eventually got a Wii U edition for myself. I was always a legacy console kid, and when I saw all the stuff the the anniversary, it hit me that those days are gone. There is only java and bedrock now. Textures change, terrain changes, and each ever updates alters the world from what it once was. But still, what the game has to say at the end remains same: "The player, it has played well" "You. You. You are alive" "And the universe said I love you" "And the universe said you have played the game well" "And the universe said I love you because you are love" Time to break out the old Wii U again, I have to see this again. For now, I'm going to cry in a corner for a bit.

This video... is probably the most well made, beautiful, and just downright moving minecraft video I have ever watched. I keep returning to it to rewatch over and over again because I love the minecraft end poem and Alpha. I discovered the poem after letting the credits roll for the first time I beat the dragon only a few years ago, and since it was never brought to my attention before I was nearly brought to tears. I was not listening to the audio at the time, but after having Alpha shuffled to me once I was hooked. I could never find a true reading of the poem with Alpha playing in the background, and you perfectly captured the essence of what the song is in relation to the poem. Outstanding work!

Someday I think I will find the wisdom and introspection to do what you have today, to realize this poem myself. I've always wanted to create a narration of it but good lord how do you interpret something of such great magnitude and meaning through the lens of our spoken word? It seems so simple, to put on an interesting voice into a good microphone and read, but I think it takes something incredible to be able to do justice to this poem, something which I just am not able to do yet. Incredibly beautiful. Alpha has always been my favorite song, it's funny as well I've made a poem as well and the similarities to mine and the end of Minecrafts are kinda scary. I wrote my poem when I was stressed out of my mind working 70 hours a week for Activision, I had a stroke of inspiration and started furiously writing words into a notepad for a game I dream of making one day. I cried my eyes out for so long after writing it, I really think the universe speaks through us. I'll post my poem if anyone is interested but it's kinda cheesy and I've never shared it but, I hope you love it. Did you have fun? I find myself asking that a lot. I hope we did. We built this together... With so much time and effort. The place was so empty... Our home was so desolate. Surrounded by nothing we took to entertaining ourselves. Sitting here alone we created variety and change. We flooded the waters and filled the skies. We concurred the land and we'll rule the stars. We grew together, We fell together and we created together. So much happened so fast it was easy to get swept away in it all... Yet through all of it, the most precious thing in all of existence remains... You remain. We remain. We built games and told stories. We built this game and told this story. We created more stories then we can consume. We filled the air with laughter, and we cried on sad occasions. Why did we create so much? Because we were lonely. No one told me it was okay to cry... We'll tell you now. It's okay to feel sadness. No one told me I'd be furious. It's okay to feel frustrations. No one told me I'd be lonely. It's okay to feel lonely, but your never alone. We're never alone. No one told me they l o v e me... I l o v e you. We love you so much. You've done so much. No one told me there would be an end... There's always an end to every great story. There's only one thing left to ask at the end of it all... Did you have fun?
@drfranklive22227 ай бұрын
......... thank you for sharing. I paused the video to give your poem my full attention, and it's... it's very well written. I know I'm just some stranger you'll never meet, but.. I suppose that's the funny thing about art, isn't it? It doesn't really matter. It transcends boundaries, relationships, and touches people regardless. Sometimes, in ways the artist couldn't have intended. Just yesterday, I spoke to my closest friend of ~4.5 years about feeling like we're drifting apart. I didn't get a bad response, exactly. But... I realized we will likely never be as close as we once were. It's... it's a bit frightening. I didn't expect it to go quite that way. It's.. it's not the end of our story. There's been no falling out. But... looking back on how things were, what we did together, what we created together? ..I.. I had fun. Again, ....thank you, for sharing.

An observation I've made after revesting "The End" after watching this video-- It's extremely fitting I feel that a song dedicated to w the end -- a dimension of void and barren, corrupted wastes -- that is composed of corrupted and aethereal melodies and tones directly precedes a song about `everything` and beyond. A contrast between desolation, corruption, and void between the greater expanse of substance and everything. Its a juxtaposition I cant stop obsessing over with how perfectly its been implemented. From spanning a dimension of inverted stone, warped trees, unorthodox ruins and endless void to a gradual reentry into the world itself in a beautifully composed omni-potent synopsis once you pass over from the dimension of "Ending" to the world of limitless bounds and oppritunity. In short; with "The End" and "Alpha" being polar opposites of eachother, its extremely fitting to have this juxtaposition placed once you cross over from the threshold of warped and jaded "End" back into an open plane of New Beginnings and limitless possibility.. I would love to see what else can be extracted from the relationship between The End and Alpha, and what further meaning it may have implicated on the greater end poem's theme.
@MerkONeil7 ай бұрын
(exeprt from pinned coment) OK I lied; "And the game was over and the player woke up from the dream. And the player began a new dream. And the player dreamed again, dreamed better And the player was the universe. And the player was love." With my observations between "The End" and "Alpha", this stanza stood out to me between the rest of them. The player would conqure the expansive void and corruption of "The End" and begin a new after crossing the threshold, respawning in the overworld in their bed to begin a new.. over and over as they take what they've learned and felt and apply it further to have better dreams. As an analogy with life-- After you truly "End" something, theres always more you can do. More things you can think of, achieve, conquer, pass through, and experience -- all whilst taking in the impressions from these various experiences to "dream better", or otherwise grow. as a person from it. Although there is a "True End" of sorts in the sense of entropy and everything slowly losing form over time, we can still surpass whatever ends we come across and think are coming our way and grow from it. Fearing over this warped and ending totality only to come across the other side feeling better, being better, and growing past to become even better and better- to do more and experience more in this seemingly never-ending universe we find outselves in. To experience everything and do everything you can and want to, and to move past any corrupted or distorted endings you may percive to face. in the future To grow and continue from the many past "endings" you once feared to do more and better things-- waking up and accepting the past events before applying what was felt from that onto new beginnings and future ends to be met and passed. As with the last two lines-- the player is of the universe. You are of the universe-- You are what you experience and feel, what you move through and overcome-- Everything you love and know of is what is important. Not to dwell on future Ends of sort with such monumental beasts that seem impossible to overcome (especially so with so many prongs and pillars of mounted issues feeding the monster)-- but to defeat and conquer those fears and grow from it. To grow and dream better and dream more, be better and be more. You are what you experience and love-- what you feel and care for. You are able to do more and more as you grow from new beginnings to resolute endings. Don't stay on or fear over any ends you come across-- doing such will just subject you to a warped and corrupted view of everything and declare it all void. You are stronger than any ending-- and you are able to continue growing and loving more and more-- passing it on to others so they can also grow more and more. To wake up from an end, to then move to a beginning -- over and over -- and to continue surpassing those ends and grow from them. To be of what you love from what you have experienced and felt. Keep waking up and dream more, Keep moving to dream better. Dont be afraid of any ends in site-- overcome them and grow to dream more and dream better. Grow from what you've dreamed of and felt and loved. What matters to you is what you love and experience-- not of any stretch of void or menacing dragon that will impeed you from doing what you love.
@MerkONeil7 ай бұрын
thinking about this more-- its become more and more apparent to me that these two tracks are of the same piece bounded to this single poem and the End. I would absolutely love to see what more can be extracted both from the poem, the music, and the actual game itself... Theres plenty of metaphors, analogies, and greater nuggets of meaning to extract here. And I feel we've only barely scratched the surface.

Strangely enough, it was playing a completely different game that gave me a greater appreciation and perspective on the End Poem, especially its conclusion. That game was Outer Wilds. (Outer Wilds spoilers below, play the game if you haven't because its progression is based on knowledge and you can't unlearn anything) Within the Eye of the universe, you hear your own breathing through the signalscope, and approach "yourself". As you're about to walk into "yourself", the light flickers, and "you" become a tree, which becomes a campfire. You gather your friends, roast marshmallows, and play your song, infinite possibilities emerging from the smoke of the campfire, the campfire which was yourself only minutes before. You are the universe tasting itself, talking to itself, reading its own code. And the universe said I love you because you are love. And the game was over and the player woke up from the dream. And 14.3 billion years later, the player began a new dream. And the player dreamed again, dreamed better. And the player was the universe. And the player was love. Come on, wake up. It's the day of your first launch!
