Regarding canon, you're kinda right, but it's a bit more complicated than that. It's the "Minecraft is Multiverse" situation mentioned in the Minecraft game design book written by Jeb himself. Page 19 which covers this idea states, "Each Minecraft world is not separated by space or time; they co-exist in their unique realities..." Your world is your own essentially. Your experiences there are unique and valid. Minecraft is designed to be a generic canvas that still fits within the universe's canon while letting you have your own freedoms of interperatation as this same page in the book states, "In the core game, it is better to be unspecific and generic to fit all possibilities, but a static story can have more details, such as named characters and items." Another paragraph in this page states, "This concept may open a few questions for our related projects. Is a story taking place in a specific world or is it relevant to the multiverse of Minecraft? More specifically, is a spin-off game expanding the lore, or is it an isolated event taking place in one of many worlds?" It is particularly noteworthy that they view games with isolated events taking place in specific worlds (like Story Mode perhaps) and projects expanding the lore (like how they've said Dungeons, and by proxy, Legends are deeply connected to Minecraft lore) as distinct from one another. So, these spin-offs may be canon to the lore, but not necessarily your own story as they seem to describe it. This is why several Dungeons devs keep saying that it shares the same canon and universe as vanilla and its lore, yet in other times, other Mojang employees might say that Minecraft doesn't necessarily have a story besides the ones players create for themselves. This actually explains Jeb's weird response in if Minecraft Dungeons is canon. It is...! But... it also isn't if that's not your deal. They are certainly intended to be cohesive, though. If you wanna read this for yourself, you can search for "Minecraft game design book."

I’m trying to make a mod for Minecraft right now, and something I realized during it is that fire in Minecraft seems to be a way by which to channel magic. Blaze powder is used in the eye of ender and in making potions. Nether portals are lot by fire and end portals are made over lava(this end portal point is loose). The ender dragons crystals have a fire beneath them, which is the only notable difference from the ones we can make. Soul fire seems to be directly consuming the energy of the souls within it. And even mob spawners create a flame just before they spawn a mob. Legends even refers to them as the flames of creation I believe. So overall fire would appear to be one of the ways by which magic is channeled into its other forms, as well as a natural occurrence such as in lightning strikes. Not all fire is magic, but it can be used to harness magical power.
@DJSlimeball7 ай бұрын
perhaps simply because fire creates energy?
@so-uc5lg7 ай бұрын
I think you’re onto something, maybe it’s the energy from heat that allows magic to be used. Yes, you can just go in creative mode and make an end portal, but you aren’t meant to do that in survival. In the stronghold there is lava beneath the portal, suggesting it requires the heat from the lava (and the blaze powder) to function
@snakemaster2547 ай бұрын
@@so-uc5lg i see it more as fire being used to release the energy. After all in the real world coal is burned so that the stored heat within can be converted into electrical energy. So perhaps from this view fire is used to convert magic energy from a dormant form into an active form. Additionally when potential energy is converted to kinetic energy some of the energy is lost as heat, as so perhaps fire could also just be a by product of the use of magic, as the energy for the magic is lost as heat during use, thus making the magic limited in its use by how much energy it can burn.

Honestly I REALLY like this theory. Minecraft lacking a magic "System" but instead having the mystical flush in its world is so good. I love when magic just IS and if you wanna try to categorize it then you're free to try, but the magic of the world doesn't know or care that you're trying to fit it into a box, and will keep doing its thing, so there's bound to be contradictions and exceptions to EVERY rule. It's almost like real science. Sure we know a LOT about our universe NOW after getting pretty good at cataloging the last few thousand years of existence, and have good theories about what came before but there's still a TON we don't know, and we also have weird exceptions that break everything we know about how shit works(quantum mechanics for example) because our universe seems either unaware or uncaring about our attempts to break it into understandable categories. And looking back in recorded history? HA!!! Science knew VERY little, if that's the case in OUR world, now imagine throwing in magic on top of that. If SCIENCE is hard to categories into systems and to have an airtight view of how it all works do you think MAGIC would spell out every single detail of how it works neatly and cleanly? I say the NAY! It should be even MORE obtuse and contradictory! ... Sorry I just REALLY like the idea of a world with a seeming hard magic system that gets softer and softer the more you look at the holes in it.

There is crafting tables in the world, stonecutters, but not enchantment tables, because villagers can enchant just by themselfs (while piglins probably selling what left from past). My theory is that no one can use two magic types, so Steve, who can respawn - cannot enchant by himself, or can't summon creatures by himself (enderdragon summoned by altar). Because of that he also uses totem of undying as such, while evoker takes xp from it or something for summoning. Also respawn anchor is probably only magic item exclusive for Steve.

I'd tell, that Minecraft has three branches of magic: 1. Ritual magic. Nether portals, golems, beacons, conduits. Everything, what require certain arrangements of blocks to be placed. 2. Alchemy. Potion production. Interesting thing, that potions are impossible without nether ingredients. 3. XP based magic. Enchantments and, arguably, sculk.
@skalniak20147 ай бұрын
The thing is enchanting might be a mix of both ritural and xp based magic seeing as enchanting requires bookshelves to augment it's power and maybe something else as well seeing as it requieres lapis
@cecilrhodes21537 ай бұрын
Technically speaking, everything is ritual magic. Ritual magic involves bringing forth magic by following a procedure or ritual, be that: Array construction (portals) Runic inscription (enchanting) Alchemical production (potions) Ritual magic just involves processing materials and performing required steps to produce an output, just like crafting (of which many of the ‘magical’ items are indeed crafting with mildly magical materials) I can expand even further upon this if you wish, but broadly, the magic system distinguishes between accumulation of knowledge and energy (xp), the soul of a living thing, and the natural magical energy contained within a specialized material as its main tenets.

these are some interesting points, I been figuring this out for myself for years and thinking about this whole magic system, I have a few ideas if you want to share your opinions or have an input to it; 1. End magic might be a broad term in the world of Minecraft, the Magic from the End seems to be quite different from the magic that exist in the Nether and Overworld, the Overworld seems to have magic related to life, this may explain why gold is quite common and why the illagers may know how to make and create totems of undying, also there is quite a lot of noticeable things that the Overworld have that is required for life, just like that of earth, water, air/wind, and plenty of plant life, so maybe there is more creatures related to wind, water and earth/plant/nature, like the breeze, drowned, and bogged, things related to snow and ice, like strays, could deviate from water, since breezes shoot out projectiles created by wind, undead can't drown, and guardians have these lasers (although they may be more mechanical than organic), bogged poising you with their arrows, same with strays but with slowness, in the nether there is fire and soul based magic, blazes, ghasts, magma cubes, and so on have some form of elemental like magic, and the player can also have element based magic, fire aspect and flame are clearly fire based, frost walker is ice based, maybe bane of arthropods but its a stretch, depth strider, respiration, aqua affinity, riptide, and impaling are water based, channeling is lighting/electricity based, wind burst is...well...wind based, and possibly feather falling is wind based as well, density and possibly thorns, is earth based, and soul speed and smite are soul based, and maybe mending could be either knowledge based or soul based as well, but when it comes to the end, I could say its magic could be related to dark, or psychic/psi magic, but what kind of magic it certainly is is void based, endermen, shulkers, and the ender dragon may all be void based creatures, maybe we could get enchantments based around void magic, like a slash of shadow or purple void magic from a sword or maybe an elytra based void enchantment, the void is everywhere in the end, so... it could work, hypothetically.... 2. ever wondered why some of the characters in Minecraft have "anime hair colors"? and I'm not talking about community made skins, I'm talking about the skins officially created my Mojang themselves throughout their games, for example, Efe (with her hair being purple) in the base game (Alex has red/orange/ginger hair, since her design is based off of Jeb's real life appearance, and he happens to have orange hair) and in Minecraft Dungeons, Adriene and Valorie (she has a deep, vided red hair, she's more of a red head than Alex, while Adriene has pink/ magenta hair) and there is many more examples, maybe the unnatural hair color could be related to magic or higher amounts to it, or it could be just down to genetics, if that is even possible in game, since we don't know what or who their parents, or their ancestors for that matter even are. EDIT: there's a few things I didn't talk about when I originally posted this comment, since I was up way too late (it was almost 5 in the morning when I posted this comment), and I'll address some things here; - the idea of elemental magic being various may explain some affinities the mobs have, such as end based creatures being void based, we can also assume the mobs in the spinoff games, like Minecraft Dungeons, for example, the enderlings and the heart of ender being beings of the void, in the base game, the Void is more of a boundary than anything, so maybe Mojang could expand on this concept of void magic being a bit more present in the world of Minecraft, which is why we could hypothetically get void based enchantments in something like an end update, also you could say sculk and the warden could be a mix of void and soul magic, but the warden also has some form of dark/shadow based abilities, and the sonically charged shriek could be based around sound, or it could be fear, based because the warden is supposed to evoke fear into the player (I also say fear based because the shriek reminds me too much of Cynder's siren scream attack from The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, with the attack being a fear based element attack, the warden was at one point could control the player's mind, but it was never implemented because it was too complex, despite this, the ability is not too dissimilar to the shadow attack's secondary ability, also used by Cynder in the same game, anyhow if the warden had that, it probably would make the mob even more scarier than it already is), I do want to see Mojang expand more on the concept of elemental magic in Minecraft, we are only just touching wind based magic in 1.21. - also when I was talking about the vibrant hair colors of some of the playable characters, there is a few in Minecraft legends, the most notable one to me is a character with a light blue, almost teal or seafoam colored hair in a green robe, whom they are often seen in many promotional material, and even seen in an official lo-fi video, playing some kind of tune with the lute, on the official Minecraft channel, they are also one of the playable characters as well, though I don't know if they have a name or not, many the characters in MCL don't really, except the hosts themselves, which may be gods or god-like in how they watch over the overworld. now I'll add some things I have also theorized about too now, as those things are now out of the way; 3. the Player is not a human at all, a lot of people say this, despite the player, and all characters that look like them may look human (maybe they are, but Mojang may or may not tell us if they are in fact humans or not) but their abilities is certainly not human at all. I'm pretty sure many of you guys have probably remember that one scene in MC:SM where Romeo (aka, the admin) destroys Champion City right in front of Stella, Axel, and Olivia, as a kid when this came out, I was disturbed by this and the possibility that the people in the city were all killed by him, Imagine how many men, women, children, elderly, pets, and so on were killed, but, according to someone who worked on the game, there was supposed to be a cut scene where they were all teleported by Romeo before the destruction of the city and their homes, but was never implemented, although MCSM is a different continuity from MC and MCD, which shares continuity with each other, this could easily apply to the players seen in these games, so they might be stronger and tougher than even some of the strongest people in the world, they may also be faster, and can survive falls that would kill a human in real life, they also can eat foods that real humans can't such as red mushroom, which looks suspiciously similar to the Fly amanita, or Fly Agaric mushroom, a very poisonous, and deadly mushroom, and they just eat it like it's candy, it can even be used to make mushroom stew, there is also an item called the death cap in MCD, which increases attack and speed in the game, the death cap in game is a purple colored mushroom with white spots, but in real life, the death cap is brownish white, and is very similar to the portabella mushroom, a safe mushroom you can eat and get at a local grocery store or farmer's market, but death caps (or its scientific name, Amanita Phalloides), as the name implies, is deadly, and very few people survived after eating the mushroom, I guess the playable race of this world is somehow immune to the a-Amanitin toxin, also the brightly colored hair may actually be natural to them because they aren't humans, so somehow they may be born like that. that is all I could think of right now, but anyone in the comments can share their opinion or anyhow.

Some ideas for magical eliments. -XP still seem to be a core energy to the magic system. -Souls can be used to give status affects to things that have souls. - Lapiz is a magicly conductive ink, used to write magic runes, that can do a variery of things from enchant items, to program gollems. - Redstone absorbs magical energy, and releases it slowly; which is why it seems to be its own power source, and can extend potions durations. - Glowstone does the opposite, burning magical energy quickly potently, into such as bright light, or more potent but shorter lived effects. - Gold, while clearly a differernt eliment, it may not be a coincidence that both it and glowstone are a shiney yellow minneral that makes other magic more potent. - Obsidian stablises other forms of magic, hence it's use in portals and enchantment tables. - Amityst, has magical sound-resinating propertys, so alleys who like music and skulk sensors that are verry sensitive to sound, react to it. -The End has alot of teliportation stuff connected to it. Maybe This could means the End is some sort of astral-plane, or world-between-worlds, exsisting between or outside the spacetime of the other dimentions? -Heat, such as fire and blaze, releases magical energy stored in various things, such as brewing potions, or lighting portals. Plus, the Neather is hot, and has alot of lava, so a portal made with cooled lava and heat leads to the neather. A portal made with Endstone and EnderEyes leads to the End. -A portal will lead to a different dimention, depending on how alligned the meterials it's made of are with the propertys of that plane of exsistance; So endstone leads to the End, Bedrock to the Overworld, and Obsidian to the Neather.

As the creator of the triangular magic diagram which you showed (and pointed out disagreements with) at various points in the video, I would like to say that I never really intended to make such strict lines between the different categories. In fact, my intent had always been to have each item's specific position within it's box indicate, by it's proximity to the other categories also used in it's making. I created it specifically in order to try to show magical forces as a continuum, with each category blending into the others. However, do to my creating the diagram in a software not designed for this sort of thing, and also being generally lazy because i didn't expect what I intended as a random reddit shitpost to get much attention, I made the mistake of having those solid black lines which many have interpereted as strict seperation between categories. I shall now address that which I understand as being the main point of this video: that we should view these magic items as combinations of Elements rather that manifestations of Fundamental Pillars. As mentioned in my explanation above, I have always, despite giving the opposite impression, seen each magic item as a combination of powers, not a manifestaion of a specific one. The difference between my views and those presented here is therefore mostly in the number of Elements / Fundamentals / Pillars (henceforth called Axioms to avoid the connotations of each of these names with a specific view on their number). The statement presented in this video is that "there are many [Axioms], perhaps even hundreds". While I believe that this may be the case, I also believe that only those appearing as components in multiple different items are worthy of our study, and that, when considering only these, the number of Axioms we are working with would drastically decrease, becoming something near a dozen. I believe this quantity small enough that one could still create a "magic chart", depicting by proximity an item's association with the Axioms surrounding it. (This was as aforementioned, the original intent of my poorly executed diagram). If enough interest is present for me to do so, I could attempt to make once more a graph of known magic items, presenting better than my failed previous attempt the concepts which I hold in common with that presented here. Given the length of this statement, it feels more like a letter than a comment and i feel like I should sign it. As such; Yours Truly, CfMb.

I appreciate the groupings of magic theory, but I do think there is a primary system of souls being the main conduit of power used. For my money’s worth I think that in Minecraft Dimensional Energy is purple, and that endermen are simply able to innately wield that energy for a variety of purposes. That’s the bridge between nether portals and “end magic”. For crying obsidian, maybe the obsidian is degrading and even mutating due to prolonged usage as a portal and exposure to dimensional energy, quite literally bleeding it in liquid form. Respawn anchors… under normal circumstances you respawn in the over world, even if you die in the nether, so it might require dimensional energy in order to keep you tethered there. Now for the fun part. **cracks knuckles** Endermen are essentially hyper-evolved clams or oysters, as evidenced by their pearl. Normal aquatic oy s t e r…… just came up with something, I’ll talk about it later. Normal oysters will build up their pearls to cover a piece of grit or detritus that got inside them, to make it less irritating. I forget what exact material they use for this, but that’s not fully relevant. I believe that endermen are able to concentrate and materialize dimensional energy in the form of Ender Pearls, and not as an autonomic reaction but as a deliberate and purposed choice, presumably related to granting or focusing their teleportation abilities. Onto the thing I realized and came up with mid-paragraph! The intermediary stage two steps behind a heart of the sea (Heart made from Eye made from Pearl) could have been produced by a type of magic oyster bred or engineered/modified to take in and wield… water energy/magic, more or less, and condense it into pearls. That’s just logical reasoning, the exciting leap in logic I had is that these oysters could be an ancestor species to endermen. This would explain the stark similarities between the unlidded Heart Of The Sea and Eyes Of Ender. This would also indicate the existence of a Heart Of Ender, although a thusly named object does indeed appear within dungeons (the primary macguffin which is also called the orb of dominance). There’s still a lot we don’t know, and the problem is that when your brain fills in the holes it will instinctively use what it filled the holes with as part of the foundation, which builds on itself and can lead people in wildly different directions even if they started out on the same path. I do think that this theory is groundbreaking and likely deserves to become a primary part of the “broadly accepted fanon” we ascribe to.

I think Exp is literal life experience in the form of “Exp energy”. It’s something that can add to and enhance soul energy. Think of it like yin and yang. Exp is Yin and soul energy is Yang

I would word it slightly differently. I would say that many materials in Minecraft have their own special properties, and that you can craft "magical objects" by correctly mixing up these special properties. And knowledge is just the knowledge of how to mix these special properties efficiently. I wouldn't speak of "elements". Just like in real life, copper is a very good electric conductor, and some metals can generate a magnetic field when receiving electricity, and you can thus create electrical magnets as long as you have the knowledge and the tools for it. In simpler words, magic in Minecraft is just a form of very advanced crafting.

I've been trying solve Minecraft's Lore for a while now and I gotta say this video collects many aspects of the Magic part of Minecraft really well, I think that you could have gone deeper into details or more evidences that the three games give us, but still as you said its a start, and it's a really good one!

I haven't thought about minecraft magic lately using "categories", but the idea that experience is literally an experience is an incredible idea! Also, I usually consider magic as a single energy variant, which simply accepts different combinations with different parameters. Something similar to how light of different frequencies for us is either a visible spectrum, or radio waves, or even ultraviolet. Also, do you have any discord for discussing theories?

Generally Speaking , as Magic is seen; In most fiction or even real life stories/ Practices you’d be correct to say that the enchantment table pulls from you: As a Baby can’t hold knowledge yet has a soul. ( The Context ) It’s like a Boon. We’re gifted these concepts and Ideas before our reckoning and until WE make the connections, that’s where it Exists. ( Assume That Magic is the Soul. ) Easily, most people don’t read the end script as evidence but more as a Dialogue. If (the lore) it exists in the uninformed then shouldn’t we be the ones comfortable to define it? Like The colors of the story. (End credits ) Minecraft is an Intuitive experience, and the magic Might’ve always been you. As you existed within it., Think “Shall” Just My Thoughts; I don’t know this’ll help much.

Okay so i was thinking about how mojang should add a magic staff to the game, but i was puzzled how the magic could work. Now it would be pretty cool if you could input different elements into the rod for different abilities that drain your XP with each shot. And then you could simply use a new potion that allows you to drain less XP for a few minutes.
@Montique727 ай бұрын
Obviously a weapon that drains your XP would need to be able to do some really cool casts. Something that does like 20pnts of damage at full power but requires 20 xp to use

You have done great theories and explain stuff very well. One suggestion i want to give you is to try to assume the viewer has less knowledge about the subject of the video before watching it. Saying colour theory is wrong means nothing to people who don't know what's colour theory, saying "there are no categories" means nothing to people who haven't seen previous attempts at defining categories

I think I know what "End Magic" is, it represents Space. Like, the Nether Portal, it glows purple because you're literally ripping open space using the obsidian ehich obviously has some sort of magical aspects. Others things like the endermen who warp space to teleport around, or the respawn anchor whoch teleports you to another dimension upon death.

i did usually think the players experience they gained from doing stuff was their power or knowledge that could be focused through the enchantment table to power up a weapon/armour. i never really thought of dungeons and legends to be in the same world as regular minecraft, i always thought it was a multiverse thing which is why entities in legends look different to entities in minecraft and how items in dungeons dont appear in minecraft. the elemental magic is really cool and does seem to explain how certain things work the way they do.

I have some info(a perspective) that may be interesting. Redstone has some sort of thermal/nuclear properties, allowing to react to heat. This is evident in a restone torch, and when redstone is compacted into a block the power compounds producing constant energy, or when pressure is applied to a redstone ore.(or restone can build up energy and it takes pressure/energy it release it.(this would also explain potions)) Also I think that while gold enhances stuff, it does it in a more magic angled way, and netherwart brings out an item's(was at some point living) potential. Quarts is an amplifier, causing redstone to react more. Amethyst has a semi magic way to mess with wavelengths(light, vibrations). And I didn't get to most of the other stuff yet.

the one thing im noticing is with experience being exactly experience or knowledge- that still doesnt explain ores and smelting giving exp, unless you want to argue that being formed in the earth, or being smelted is the experience its experiencing? but its still just an iron, or bit of lapis, it doesnt have the ability to remember that (the lapis could have an argument since its magical in some sense? but coal, iron, gold, etc also give exp, so idk)

Don't remember what the exact order was but I remember seeing an old video years ago that went along the lines of "play 11 five seconds into 5 then start 13 thirteen seconds later" this probably wasn't the right order but some combination of the three disks did something really cool. Could be misremembering though.

Question: so there’s knowledge in books and knowledge is EXP, so what if the books are fiction books? What if it takes place in a curious world with elves, dwarves, trolls and lizard men, monsters beyond science and what if, JUST WHAT IF. It was concentrated through a conduit of fantasy? Magic.

@@skistorm739 I mean if there is a way to mix magics that there are a bunch of them just like crafting, you may be able to craft a ton of different flavors of magic, some that have maybe not have been discovered yet, like the Infinite April fools update. It's just a sandbox for crafting magic. You could theoretically create your own system using the base system! and the effects of your magic are based on the components. That's a magic update for you! i believe the exp thing can only be used by steve (or alex or any of the main character if they are cannon), the only other thing other than steve that can absorb xp orbs is sculk, which gave me an idea about steve's birth origin (big brain moment fr), the ancient city looks like rememnants of people who lived there but it was destroyed by the warden, so people were stuck there because the wither was running rampant on the surface (forgot to mention this can be a continuation to Game theory's ancient civilization theory), the people died to the warden and the sculk spread and with time there was no food so steve's mother had to eat the skulk while she was pregnant with him leading to him being birthed special having the ability to absorb xp. i also beilieve that the books and enchanted items that villagers trade are not made by them, but they were looted from this civilization. your idea of steve using real experience but not understanding it fully is very plausible since when you use a grinder to remove enchants you only get a portion of the experience, which also gives me an idea about enchanting, steve does not understand magic at all, the books in the bookshelfs have knowledge he doesnt comprehend and the enchantment table uses the experience steve doesnt understand and knowledge from books to enchant books and items, that is why with more bookshelfs you get better enchants. what if steve's ungodly strength comes from all the xp he gathered, and what if steve's knowledge is also from the experience he gathered? magicians probably existed but steve wasnt able to get all their xp and that is why he is only capable of doing basic stuff like imbuing and knowing about the enchantment table but not being able to write actual enchanted books. i know these ideas are more like explaining game mechanics than magic theory but these could also be a good stepping stone

I have been thinking awhile now. Souls are Blue, and Experience are Green. And in the end poem, there are two being, Blue one, and the Green one. Maybe Souls and Experience are the two primary magic? And one more theory when I watching your video about the colors. What is the three primary color in our world? Blue, Green and Red. Souls, Experience, and Redstone, three most powerful elements. They can combine to Yellow/Gold, Cyan, Purple and so on... Maybe this is their connections, like colors mixing. But... I don't know how Redstone and Souls are connected to The End :\ Wait! The Ancient City has Redstone in it! So, from the Ancient Builders Thoery, Skulk Dimension is a bad idea and THE END is the last resort. Oh My God. What about the Redstone and Experience connected to Gold. And the Souls and Experience connected to Cyan. Erm... Idk So this primary color thoery is dead.
