1. A couple people have asked me if I'm planning on making a video to commemorate Technoblade. The thing is, I don't want to say anything else. I would feel wrong doing so. Making a video about it on my channel doesn't really feel right, and I have no desire to farm clicks/ad revenue/attention off the topic like some others are doing. So yeah. Stay strong out there, and talk to someone if you're going through stages of grief. We'll get through this as a community. 💜 2. This video topic is a couple days old, but I was working on this video and juggling conventions at the same time. It's up to the server owners to decide their rules, Minecraft doesn't need to do it (and quite frankly is going to do a terrible job) Luckily I'm almost certain this change won't last long (considering the amount of mass reporting bots there's gonna be)

The only problems i have with chat reporting is A. Microsoft handling the reports instead of a server mod team B. Reports and bans are global. If you're banned from one server, even falsely, you're banned from all servers including your own private servers

"SMH just don't swear" is just a naive take from a perspective where global ban shouldn't be necessary and such just do local bans "which is getting banned from the server not multiplayer access" just like the community has been doing for decades. The report system is a fine addition but the implementation in which it forces global ban in losing your multiplayer rights because you happen to do a miniscule of Tom foolery or even get falsely banned is downright stupid. Regardless, getting global banned for something that is mentioned above is a nuclear option which only hurts the playerbase.

the bottom line is that even though it seems like it, minecraft isn't a kids game, in fact the report system is doing the opposite for the target audience, restricting banned players to a single-player, child friendly game mode, in my opinion i think an age verification would be better before letting children access multiplayer modes, as it would prevent young eyes from being harrassed on the internet, while also giving them the experience of minecraft

Servers can have different rule sets, and Microsoft admins won’t know about them so this basically will ruin servers with their own rule sets unless they change it to where server owners can do something like toggle certain report categories or toggle chat reports in general.

Or just don’t add the report system, cause Mojang purposely made Java edition be named “Minecraft: Java Edition” while bedrock is named “Minecraft”. They can just change the rating for Java edition to be rated T for teens or whatever it is compared to Bedrock’s E10+ and let the server owners take care of everything. If they plan on making parity between Bedrock and Java, but making Java like Bedrock instead, I won’t be updating. Maybe they could also make it to where only server owners and moderators could report someone and actually get it sent to Microsoft, as that would make false bans a lot less likely cause it’d go through two mods.

Not only does it raise the issue of malicious ban-spamming, but it also steamrolls the endless diverse "cultures" of the Minecraft multiplayer community. Does anyone actually have faith that Microsoft (because that's who this is coming from) is going to spend the resources to carefully study the context of each chat message, action, etc. of each reported player? And who's to say Microsoft is an objective judge either?

I agree with what the description says, if a player is doing something inappropriate or spamming unendingly then there is always the option to just leave. Just leave. Minecraft doesn't need to implement multiversal bans because it is such a sandbox game that there are an infinite number of things anyone could do to stop that person or just leave the situation altogether.

I have already seen mods that can manipulate reports to remove context and get someone falsely banned. These mods are just made to prove how easy it is to break the system, but genuine mods to abuse this kind of thing would be just as easy to make. The system is awful in every way.

I can’t wait for cheaters to make auto report scripts like on roblox. Context, cheaters on roblox get called names like “ur so bad you have to cheat”, “wow your cheating and are still bad”. So cheaters made scripts that whenever they see keywords like those it auto reports the other user. In 9/10 cases the angry player gets a 3 day “harassment” ban and the cheater just continues to play.

I left a comment on their feedback page. It took them a little less than a week to review it and when they did, they removed it for some reason. There were no swear words, inflammatory statements, or anything. They just removed it. The saddest part is that ive this is a common thing happening.

@@amongsussyballs still a terrible idea, some servers are relied heavily on commands, even if Microsoft decided to mute the chat but not the commands, its still going to break some plugins because not all of them are perfect and are designed for these type of moderation. Moderation as a whole should be taken care by the owner of the server. Multiversal moderation is not a solution, its a recipe for disaster.

Long ago I had a very laggy computer. When I would play any game on hypixel, I would basically be flying around the match. So it's no surprise I got false banned for 90 days. I was so angry, especially when I tried to appeal it and got denied. This is to say, false bans can happen to anyone, so I agree with the points you brought up. Great vid as always :)

Alright, here is how to crack the entire report system: 1: Create a singleplayer world with your alt account 2: Use macro to spam report a generated player that was created using plugins or commands 3: If there is a cooldown, get more bots that do the same thing

Although I agree with you on most things, I will disagree with you when I say that this feature IS a huge deal and could see the end of minecraft multiplayer. (AT least for servers updated past 1.18). Because on bedrock you can get banned from single player and multiplayer on a private realm wirh just you and your friends. So keep in mind, on a realm you PAY FOR, you can get banned for saying whatever you're saying with friends. Where said friends know what is joking and what isn't. It's ridiculous. And the moderation for bedrock has always been so bad. When it launched i was shadowbanned for almost 2 years on servers. It's only a matter of time before they bring all of this shit to java

I feel like a good “fix” for most of the problems/the main problem is to implement a feature that makes the mods get the message and context, like things that same person said and even your messages to make sure you’re not the wrong one falsely reporting or reporting because you got mad So the mods could go like “this guy reported guy2 for saying shut up, but before that guy1 spammed GG ez”

imo they should only mute players (e.g. remove chatting feature unless its a command (this way servers who want to ignore these mutes could still print messages via the players doin /say commands from plugins / datapacks or minecraft could just let servers decide themselves if they want to use the mute feature via some server settings)) and not ban them (especially since its paid) also i wonder if mod / client devs are gonna find loopholes to get past these bans

1. there shouldn't be a global banning system, but rather servers could choose their "levels of restrictions" so for example ppl banned for swearing can still join servers like 2b2t (since chat is alr stupidly toxic there) or your own servers, but some servers could just not let those people in 2. reporting system should also send 10 previous messages and up to 10 next messages for context and "no ban" should be the default thing to avoid false bans 3. rather than banning immediately, there should be some striking system, so you have to get reported on multiple servers (you're toxic in general, not just on that server) and you know if you messed up 4. this reporting most likely is gonna decrease the sales of the game and heavily increase the piracy rates, since a cracked version at least allows cracked servers (rather than banning all servers) and paying for the game doesn't really give any benefits

I probably shouldn’t be worried about this, but I am. I’m scared of typing in multiplayer chat now this is going to be implemented. Of course, they are trying to fix the rules based off of the player concerns, but even then, I find it really frightening. I do feel Microsoft has good intent, but if they execute it wrong, it will not only have a big effect on the entire player base, but also the company itself.

i think that they should add an option in the server configuration that activates or not their report system, so that someone banned could continue to play in servers that don't have it active and cant be banned in those servers: obviously when a server deactivates the option it has to be flagged as "unsecure" and younger players can't play in it without the consens of the parents

Bedrock is a deeply flawed version, with hundreds, thousands of bugs that aren't getting fixed. Random deaths, instakill coordinates, false bans from multilayer and existing single player worlds are a small part of the issues with bedrock edition. Sure, slightly earlier access to some updates and cross version multilayer is great! But bringing java closer to bedrock edition just makes it a worse game. A lot of people on bedrock are scared of using chat, because random bans are such a frequent thing. The "highly trained staff" that is reviewing the chat messages often bans people without knowing the context and the type of server it was written on.

@@bruh12458 example for coordinates: x:65536 z:65535, you fall through the world, and for random deaths something that happened to me quite often when I played in survival was that I randomly took damage and it said "I hit the ground too hard". Often I was for example exploring, I fell down 2 blocks, at full health, and just died when I shouldn't even have taken damage.

i highly doubt this is a mojang choice, mojang actually trusts their community to run their own servers. microsoft seems to think otherwise. like even just a mute system would be perfectly fine, but seriously being banned from multiplayer is awful. obviously for people actually breaking the rules badly, they should be banned but this is 100% going to bring false bans. i just hope minecraft doesnt become like roblox, with its nonsensical moderation. i literally got banned because my game was "innapropriate" when it was literally the default game and was private lol ps. they denied my appeal so that account is lost forever

This report system can be abused so hard, a player can get banned for saying something in a pvp server along the lines of: "can you come fight me so i can kill you already?" And that can be taken in multiple ways. If thats said on a PvP server then its fine, if its said on a chill community building server then its not ok. An update like this frustrates me a lot, I feel like its not needed, servers been enforcing rules since the start of multiplayer. And the servers, if its a pvp server, ofc they are gonna know that the message is fine.

The fact that the report system sends some "context" messages along with the reported messages should help. Hopefully, the mods will be competent and realize what's going on when given a message asking about how to farm cane. I don't want to have to trust Mojang with my multiplayer future, but we don't seem to have much of a choice right now.

One idea is for online multiplayer server's in the same vain as hypixel will go through a trial period to determine if they're moderation system needs to be overhauled, Where Hypixel will be a no but servers like shotbow would absolutely be a server that should have their moderation replaced

Even in previous update you had a message when you clicked on the multiplayer tab that advised caution about all the problems that come with servers. If the kids decide to ignore that message, that's already not on the devs. If Minecraft wants to be kid-friendly, then this chat report system is already out of the picture.

This was tried before by the community by making a add on. That if you were ban in 3 servers with said add on you will be banned from every server with that add on and it back fired horribly the owners of the servers got banned and so is the creator of the add on

They should instead make it so you are on a watchlist so servers look a bit more at you specificly and not so much on everyone else and if after that you do something that breaks the server rules you get banned from that server
