Just one of the many ways you can setup the Equinox for coin hunting. Sorry about the poor lighting it is storming outside so I had to do it indoors. Link to buy Equinox on Amazon amzn.to/3sdN8sh

I love your videos. I will say that I had to call Minelab as I could not forward into the next bin when you were I believe in tones. I am a tech challenged 61 year old gal (although I run circles around my male detecting partners) and fortunately Jamie knew exactly what the problem was (5 TONE). I would LOvE to see more videos on different settings for each mode (preferably from the very start ( just turning on the machine). I have the CTX and it took me several years to figure that machine out :-). I don’t want to be in a walker by the time I get this one but we all know all machines have a learning curve. Kudos for taking your time to educate all of us. Thanks, Peggy

Yes but digging beaches and digging in a public park are two different things. If I dug every signal I got in a public park I would be kicked out and the park closed to metal detecting. You have to be selective in areas like that if you want to be able to continue to detect in the future.

Very refreshing tutorial... Thanks for all your time and effort there! I have been watching and listening to so many videos... boy oh boy! I am on list for the NOX800. It will be my first machine. I am working to learn how the machine works, how some other machines work (a few other I like) and I am trying to bee sure I am making the correct purchase. like I said, after months of tutorials, I really like what you have done. you took a set of functions that when configured together, can offer a greater delivery of information from the machine as you work it. sound is everything to me as I learn the different machines. as I am sure most experts already know, I have realized the machine you want is the one that speaks to you clearly. some squeak, some squawk, some buzz, others have various levels, pitches, of musical tones. I have found the one that talks to me; but, unfortunately, $$$ too much money for me. So then, my learning direction changed. I now am looking at each machine to see if i can alter it's sounds to match the sound of the machine I could hear clearest. I like everything I have learned about the Equinox 800 so far. that is, I like it's ability. but when I listen to it, I don't hear the information. it takes me too long to interpret the musical tones. when I listen to machines that squeak or squawk, and they're information is delivered using subtle changes in pitch, I hear all the information given and easily process the complete information given this way. I have learned how to change the volumes on the other machines but your video, this video, has taught me how to do it on the NOX800. thank you very much. Now all this very long story is to ask... can I control the frequency of the sounds made by the Equinox so much that it changes to a squeak or squawk? rather than the musical notes? as I mentioned, I like the machine a lot already but to be able to change sound from song... to higher frequency squeaks... would really make this machine part of me. the objective of this video you have made, I think, is to show us how to KEEP the information. Instead of using the configuration to eliminate sound of things you are not interested in, you show how to keep that information but make is less obnoxious and make the things you really need to hear, come to you more easily, more clearly. So, I hope you might know this or be able to direct me on my information quest... Can I make the NOX800 squeak instead of sing musical notes? Using setting configuration or maybe even specific firmware changes...? Thanks again. John

Great video Bill. So glad to see you out again, and excited about the new machine. In your opinion how does the 800 compare with your E-Trac? I know how special the E-Trac is to you. Do you think this new machine can possibly have as much depth as your E-Trac. It looks much easier to use and understand at first impression. The price is very much a deal maker. For a novice, do you recommend this machine, or is it more complicated than it looks to be. I have the Original Minelab Explorer. Could the Equinox be considered an upgrade? Thanks for any info you could provide. Tell Kenny hello from Kentucky!
@DirtFishing6 жыл бұрын
For deep silver or coins in my opinion the Etrac is still the best. The EQ has a pretty good id and is pretty fast. It also separates real good. It is not hard to use at all and can be a turn on and go detector if you want it to be. Once the crazy rush is over the prices will come back down and you will then be able to pick used units up for under retail. don't know how long that will take but it will happen eventually.

Bill.. Your video illustrating your coin setup for the 800 was one of the 1st videos that made me better understand the wonder of the tech I held in my hands. It’s a training vid that I’ve shared to many. Do you have any thoughts on configuring same for the 900? I sold my 800 to make way for my Manticore and hope to find someone that will part with their 900 because they feel overwhelmed.. I hope to make them a fair offer and add the detector to my collection of state of the art detectors.. I shamelessly also own a DEUS2, Legend, and Vanquish 540.. Great video. I have watched this video a couple times now, trying to get ready for when I get my Equinox 800 that I have ordered. Just curious where in the country are you located? Is this setup meant for more shallow modern coin hunting or is it good to use this for older deeper coin hunting? Do you relic hunt at all? What kind of setup would you use for deep relic hunting? Also what setup for deep or shallow jewelry hunting (non beach terrain)? Lots of questions. Sorry. Just trying to get ready for when I get my machine. Thank you.
@DirtFishing6 жыл бұрын
I am located in Missouri it will work for both shallow and deep targets. I mostly coin hunt but to go for relics like civil war bullets, etc sometimes. I would use the same setup for relic hunting. Some of the bullets will fall into the high tone area. you can always investigate the other type signals too. For jewelry hunting I would still use multi frequency. In my tests it worked the best.

Hello, I have only had one type of detector the Minelab Excalibur I and then the II in both the 800 and 1000. They are great detectors especially in the sea and on the beaches. I even use them in old parks and historical areas with good success(once you learn the tones). How does the Equinox 800 compare with the Excalibur with depth, discrimination, tones, etc. I am hunting areas where there is lots of iron and trash but has very old silver in it aswell. The Excalibur can null out the iron. I really dont want to spend all day digging old iron and missing the goodies. I would like to know if the Equinox is superior for this or should I stick with the Excalibur's? Thanks

@unearthinghistoryontario24546 жыл бұрын
Excellent options tutorial. As a coin hunter I love how I can turn the trashy tones way down so I can concentrate only on the "ranges" that I'm looking for. Here's a question.....on most machines, using discrimination decreases depth so if I just turn down the tone volume on targets I don't want to dig do I still lose depth like when using discrimination or will it still retain it's depth??
@DirtFishing6 жыл бұрын
I doubt you will lose any depth. Minelabs seem to be real good about keeping good depth even using a lot of discrimination.

Hello I like your setting for coin. Do you have any program for beach?
@genemurphy50755 жыл бұрын
Hey brother, just recently purchased a enquinox 800 as well as the 15" coil. There was no users manual just a little single page fold out paper with the very basics of the detector. I work with it in factory park one and two and max with a quarter and depth is about 6-7 inches max. I see several videos where there getting a clear repeatable single on a dime at 10". Do you know what the deal might be? Also on my trusty v3i of which I am always able to get a quarter at 12-14 in deep silver. But I noticed on your video you with the v3i in deep silver you were getting a crisp tone rather than the all metal type sounds. Is there a setting on the v3i I can use in the deep silver program that has a simple single tone? Thanks, Keep up the good work. Gene
@DirtFishing5 жыл бұрын
Something dont seem right with the equinox if you are only getting 6-7 inches on a quarter. I would do a factor reset if you have not already. On the V3i I would manually set the tones for the higher conductive coins and not use the multi tone. Set a high tone for everything from zinc or copper penny and above and see if that helps.

The full manual is on line and can be downloaded from Minelab.

Hope your doing good have a quick question I used your coin program that you had for the Minelab Equinox would you have anything to set up for Relic hunting like Civil War artifacts in the field mode or good Relic program in General Store buttons bullets anything like that thank you
@DirtFishing6 жыл бұрын
Not really. I think the problem with that is the ID can be all over the place depending on the target.

Nice video. I like my zinc to come it mid high not high. In more modern yards I like to skip thise some.

Hello from a fellow Missourian. With your settings are gold rings notched out? I don't yet have my machine. It is on order and I am trying to learn how to set it up before it arrives. I don't want to find iron, I don't care to dig pull tabs but I realize if I disc them out I lose gold rings/coins and nickels. So I will have to live with digging pull tabs.
@DirtFishing5 жыл бұрын
The only thing that is disc out with this is iron. The tones are setup to have a high tone on targets that are most likely coins. Since gold can hit just about anywhere on the scale it can have a high or lower tone but should not be notched out.
@georgesocci68184 жыл бұрын
gold is low 8 or 9 nickels 13 quarters 29 or 30 if you are not sure if its a good target press the horse shoe button and if you hear a low grunt sound dont bother digging its that simple Kyle

DF, where would you place a gold ring. I got one of these a couple days ago and have not touched it.
@DirtFishing6 жыл бұрын
The problem with gold is it will come in all over the place. It just depends on how big it is. It may hit from foil all the way to penny.

Does the 600 also have these adjustments? Also do the Nox detectors in general have good modulated audio? If so is it adjustable like the Etrac?

Great video and thanks for sharing. I just received my 800 and of course I have a lot of questions and need as much help as I can get! I have a concern about where the Indian Cents, Silver and Nickel Three Cents and Half Dimes hit. Won't you be rejecting those coins along with most of the gold coins and rings and chains with your settings? Coin Magnet
@DirtFishing6 жыл бұрын
If you just assign a different tone to certain targets you wont be rejecting them they will just have another sound. You could always still investigate those lower tone sounds too.
@kylefreemason5 жыл бұрын
I tested those coins and Bill's settings found them.

After you set these settings will they stay on the machine after turning off and on? Thanks
@scorpio42365 жыл бұрын
I believe you have to hold the profile button for 2 seconds to save it, after that you can turn the machine on or off and it will be saved in the user profile.

Really enjoyed the instructional video. I've had the 800 Equinox for a couple month's and dig lots of iron in a farm field. My only question is "are the settings saved automatically or do I need to put the changed program into a personal profile"?
@watashmaru71224 жыл бұрын
That's a good question Tom! I'm a newby Equinox 800 owner and would like to know if these custom programs can be saved and labeled as to what they're for, where to be used, ect. If you find out PLEASE let me know. Thank you.
@watashmaru71224 жыл бұрын
Aha! found this, apparently there are 2 available "slots" for custom programs in each mode - park, field, beach, and gold. here's a link www.detectorprospector.com/forums/topic/4805-number-of-saved-profile-slots-for-custom-settings/ scroll thru them with the "detect" button. this link page has a lot of useful user info. simple and to the point. hope this helps you as much as it did me.
